²⁸ “But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’

² Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

Laws Governing the Prince

⁹ ‘Thus says the Lord God: ^(A)“Enough, O princes of Israel! ^(B)Remove violence and plundering, execute justice and righteousness, and stop dispossessing My people,” says the Lord God.

² And this is the form of the release: Every creditor who has lent anything to his neighbor shall ^[a]release it; he shall not ^[b]require it of his neighbor or his brother, because it is called the Lord’s release.

^31 (A)if the peoples of the land brought ^[a]wares or any grain to sell on the Sabbath day, we would not buy it from them on the Sabbath, or on a holy day; and we would forego the ^(B)seventh year’s produce and the ^(C)exacting^[b] of every debt.

¹⁰ I also, with my brethren and my servants, am lending them money and grain. Please, let us stop this ^[a]usury! ¹¹ Restore now to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their olive groves, and their houses, also a hundredth of the money and the grain, the new wine and the oil, that you have charged them.”

⁷ After serious thought, I rebuked the nobles and rulers, and said to them, ^(A)“Each of you is ^[a]exacting usury from his brother.” So I ^[b]called a great assembly against them.
