¹³ And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off.

¹³ because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful.^(A) Mercy triumphs over judgment.

³⁴ “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will^(A) of him who sent me and to finish his work.^{(B) 35} Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.^{(C) 36} Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests^(D) a crop for eternal life,^(E) so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together.

⁵ And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders ⁶ and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’^{(A) 7} I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.^(B)

The Parable of the Lost Coin

⁸ “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins^[a] and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? ⁹ And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’^{(C) 10} In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”^(D)

²³ Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. ²⁴ For this son of mine was dead and is alive again;^(A) he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.^(B)

³⁷ I will surely gather^(A) them from all the lands where I banish them in my furious anger^(B) and great wrath; I will bring them back to this place and let them live in safety.^{(C) 38} They will be my people,^(D) and I will be their God. ³⁹ I will give them singleness^(E) of heart and action, so that they will always fear^(F) me and that all will then go well for them and for their children after them. ⁴⁰ I will make an everlasting covenant^(G) with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire^(H) them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me.^{(I) 41} I will rejoice^(J) in doing them good^(K) and will assuredly plant^(L) them in this land with all my heart and soul.^(M)
