¹⁷ Jesus answered, “You faithless and perverse generation, how much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I put up with you? Bring him here to me.”

¹⁶ Now who were they who heard and rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt under the leadership of Moses?^{(A) 17} And with whom was he angry forty years? Was it not those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?^{(B) 18} And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, if not to those who were disobedient?^{(C) 19} So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.^(D)

¹¹ And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? And how long will they refuse to believe in me, in spite of all the signs that I have done among them?^(A)

³⁰ But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

¹⁸ For about forty years he put up with^[a] them in the wilderness.^(A)

Jesus Commissions the Disciples

¹⁴ Later he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were sitting at the table, and he upbraided them for their lack of faith and stubbornness, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen.^[a]

¹⁹ He answered them, “You faithless generation, how much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I put up with you? Bring him to me.”

⁵⁸ And he did not do many deeds of power there, because of their unbelief.

²⁶ And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a dead calm.^(A)
