Jesus Predicts His Death^(A)

²¹ From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem^(B) and suffer many things^(C) at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,^(D) and that he must be killed^(E) and on the third day^(F) be raised to life.^(G)

Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time

²² When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, “The Son of Man^(A) is going to be delivered into the hands of men. ²³ They will kill him,^(B) and on the third day^(C) he will be raised to life.”^(D) And the disciples were filled with grief.

⁶ He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:^{(A) 7} ‘The Son of Man^(B) must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”^(C)

³ For what I received^(A) I passed on to you^(B) as of first importance^[a]: that Christ died for our sins^(C) according to the Scriptures,^{(D) 4} that he was buried,^(E) that he was raised^(F) on the third day^(G) according to the Scriptures,^(H)

Jesus Predicts His Death a Third Time^(A)

¹⁷ Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, ¹⁸ “We are going up to Jerusalem,^(B) and the Son of Man^(C) will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law.^(D) They will condemn him to death ¹⁹ and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged^(E) and crucified.^(F) On the third day^(G) he will be raised to life!”^(H)

¹² But I tell you, Elijah has already come,^(A) and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished.^(B) In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer^(C) at their hands.”

⁶³ “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’^(A)

²⁸ just as the Son of Man^(A) did not come to be served, but to serve,^(B) and to give his life as a ransom^(C) for many.”

²³ This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge;^(A) and you, with the help of wicked men,^[a] put him to death by nailing him to the cross.^{(B) 24} But God raised him from the dead,^(C) freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.^{(D) 25} David said about him:

²⁹ “Fellow Israelites,^(G) I can tell you confidently that the patriarch^(H) David died and was buried,^(I) and his tomb is here^(J) to this day. ³⁰ But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.^{(K) 31} Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay.^{(L) 32} God has raised this Jesus to life,^(M) and we are all witnesses^(N) of it.
