¹⁴ And they said, “Some say ^(A)John the Baptist, others say ^(B)Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

^15 (A)But others said, “He is Elijah.” And others said, “He is ^(B)a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”

² and he said to his servants, ^(A)“This is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead; that is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.”

¹⁷ So they said again to the blind man, “What do you say about him, since he has opened your eyes?” He said, ^(A)“He is a prophet.”

^5 (A)“Behold, I will send you ^(B)Elijah the prophet ^(C)before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.

Division Among the People

⁴⁰ When they heard these words, ^(A)some of the people said, “This really is ^(B)the Prophet.” ⁴¹ Others said, “This is ^(C)the Christ.” But some said, ^(D)“Is the Christ to come from Galilee?

¹² And there was much ^(A)muttering about him among the people. ^(B)While some said, “He is a good man,” others said, “No, ^(C)he is leading the people astray.”

Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ

^18 (A)Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” ¹⁹ And they answered, ^(B)“John the Baptist. But others say, ^(C)Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.”

^8 (A)by some that Elijah had appeared, and ^(B)by others that one of the prophets of old had risen.

²⁸ And they told him, ^(A)“John the Baptist; and others say, ^(B)Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”
