The Faith of a Canaanite Woman

^21 (A)And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon.

The Syrophoenician Woman's Faith

²⁴ And from there he arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon.^[a] And he entered a house and did not want anyone to know, yet he could not be hidden. ²⁵ But immediately a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell down at his feet. ^26 (A)Now the woman was a ^(B)Gentile, ^(C)a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. ²⁷ And he said to her, “Let the children be ^(D)fed first, for it is not right to take the children's bread and ^(E)throw it to the dogs.” ²⁸ But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's ^(F)crumbs.” ²⁹ And he said to her, “For this statement you may ^(G)go your way; the demon has left your daughter.” ³⁰ And she went home and found the child lying in bed and the demon gone.

^21 (A)“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in ^(B)Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. ^22 (C)But I tell you, it will be more bearable on ^(D)the day of judgment for ^(E)Tyre and Sidon than for you. ²³ And you, ^(F)Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to ^(G)Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

^5 (A)These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of ^(B)the Samaritans, ^6 (C)but go rather to ^(D)the lost sheep of ^(E)the house of Israel.

^31 (A)Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, or the inhabitants of Sidon or of Ahlab or of Achzib or of Helbah or of Aphik or of Rehob,

²⁸ Ebron, Rehob, Hammon, Kanah, as far as ^(A)Sidon the Great. ²⁹ Then the boundary turns to Ramah, reaching to the fortified city of Tyre. Then the boundary turns to Hosah, and it ends at the sea; Mahalab,^[a] Achzib,

⁶ all the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to ^(A)Misrephoth-maim, even all the Sidonians. I myself will drive ^(B)them out from before the people of Israel. Only ^(C)allot the land to Israel ^(D)for an inheritance, as I have commanded you.

⁸ And the Lord gave them into the hand of Israel, who struck them and chased them as far as ^(A)Great Sidon and ^(B)Misrephoth-maim, and eastward as far as the Valley of ^(C)Mizpeh. And they struck them until he left none remaining.
