²⁵ About three o’clock in the morning^[a] Jesus came toward them, walking on the water.

¹⁹ They had rowed three or four miles^[a] when suddenly they saw Jesus walking on the water toward the boat. They were terrified,

⁴⁸ He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o’clock in the morning^[a] Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them,

⁴³ Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into.

³⁸ He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn.^[a] But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready.

⁵ Then the angel I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand toward heaven.

² And in his hand was a small scroll^[a] that had been opened. He stood with his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land.
