² and he said to his attendants, “This is John the Baptist;^(A) he has risen from the dead! That is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”

¹⁴ They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;^(A) others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”^(B)

⁴¹ and many people came to him. They said, “Though John never performed a sign,^(A) all that John said about this man was true.”^(B)

¹¹ Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
