¹⁶ Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

Feeding of a Hundred

⁴² A man came from Baal Shalishah,^(A) bringing the man of God twenty loaves^(B) of barley bread^(C) baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said.

⁴³ “How can I set this before a hundred men?” his servant asked.

But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat.^(D) For this is what the Lord says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.^(E)’” ⁴⁴ Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.

² In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.^{(A) 3} For I testify that they gave as much as they were able,^(B) and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own,

²⁹ Since Judas had charge of the money,^(A) some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the festival,^(B) or to give something to the poor.^(C)

¹¹ John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”^(A)

⁷ Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give,^(A) not reluctantly or under compulsion,^(B) for God loves a cheerful giver.^{(C) 8} And God is able^(D) to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need,^(E) you will abound in every good work.
