⁵⁷ So they ^(A)were offended at Him.

But Jesus said to them, ^(B)“A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.”

⁴⁴ For ^(A)Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.

⁶ And blessed is he who is not ^(A)offended because of Me.”

²⁴ Then He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, no ^(A)prophet is accepted in his own country.

⁶¹ When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples ^[a]complained about this, He said to them, “Does this ^[b]offend you?

²³ but we preach Christ crucified, ^(A)to the Jews a ^[a]stumbling block and to the ^[b]Greeks ^(B)foolishness, ²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ ^(C)the power of God and ^(D)the wisdom of God. ²⁵ Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Glory Only in the Lord

²⁶ For ^[c]you see your calling, brethren, ^(E)that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many ^[d]noble, are called. ²⁷ But ^(F)God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; ²⁸ and the ^[e]base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,

Israel Resists the Holy Spirit

⁵¹ “You ^(A)stiff-necked^[a] and ^(B)uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you. ^52 (C)Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of ^(D)the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,

³⁴ Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the ^(A)fall and rising of many in Israel, and for ^(B)a sign which will be spoken against ³⁵ (yes, ^(C)a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
