²⁸ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’

³ For though ^(A)absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing. ⁴ When you are assembled ^(B)in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, ⁵ you are ^(C)to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so ^(D)that his spirit may be saved ^(E)in the day of the Lord.^[a]

^6 (F)Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that ^(G)a little leaven leavens the whole lump? ⁷ Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

¹⁴ And we urge you, brothers, admonish ^(A)the idle,^{[a] (B)}encourage the fainthearted, ^(C)help the weak, ^(D)be patient with them all.

Anyone Not Against Us Is For Us

^49 (A)John answered, “Master, we saw someone ^(B)casting out demons in your name, and ^(C)we tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us.” ⁵⁰ But Jesus said to him, “Do not stop him, ^(D)for the one who is not against you is for you.”

A Samaritan Village Rejects Jesus

⁵¹ When the days drew near for ^(E)him to be taken up, ^(F)he set his face ^(G)to go to Jerusalem. ⁵² And ^(H)he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of ^(I)the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. ⁵³ But ^(J)the people did not receive him, because ^(K)his face was set toward Jerusalem. ⁵⁴ And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell ^(L)fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”^[a]

²² And have mercy on those who doubt; ²³ save others by ^(A)snatching them out of ^(B)the fire; to others show mercy ^(C)with fear, hating even ^(D)the garment^[a] stained by the flesh.

⁶ For such a one, ^(A)this punishment by the majority is enough, ⁷ so ^(B)you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. ⁸ So I beg you to reaffirm your love for him. ⁹ For this is why I wrote, that I might ^(C)test you and know ^(D)whether you are obedient in everything. ¹⁰ Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, ¹¹ so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for ^(E)we are not ignorant of his designs.
