¹¹ “But they refused to heed, ^(A)shrugged^[a] their shoulders, and ^(B)stopped^[b] their ears so that they could not hear.

^43 (A)Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. ^44 (B)You are of your father the devil, and the ^(C)desires of your father you want to ^(D)do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and ^(E)does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

^25 (A)in humility correcting those who are in opposition, ^(B)if God perhaps will grant them repentance, ^(C)so that they may know the truth, ²⁶ and that they may come to their senses and ^(D)escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

¹¹ The whole vision has become to you like the words of a ^[a]book ^(D)that is sealed, which men deliver to one who is literate, saying, “Read this, please.”

^(E)And he says, “I cannot, for it is sealed.”

¹² Then the book is delivered to one who ^[b]is illiterate, saying, “Read this, please.”

And he says, “I am not literate.”

¹¹ of whom ^(A)we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become ^(B)dull of hearing.

⁴ and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and ^(A)be turned aside to fables.
