The Scribes and Pharisees Ask for a Sign^(A)

^38 (B)Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.”

²² For ^(A)Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;

¹⁸ So the Jews answered and said to Him, ^(A)“What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”

The Pharisees Seek a Sign^(A)

^11 (B)Then the Pharisees came out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him. ¹² But He ^(C)sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, ^(D)no sign shall be given to this generation.”

¹⁶ Others, testing Him, ^(A)sought from Him a sign from heaven.

³⁰ Therefore they said to Him, ^(A)“What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do?

⁴⁸ Then Jesus said to him, ^(A)“Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”

Seeking a Sign^(A)

^29 (B)And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks a ^(C)sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah ^[a]the prophet.

The Pharisees and Sadducees Seek a Sign^(A)

16 Then the ^(B)Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. ² He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; ³ and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ ^[a]Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. ^4 (C)A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of ^[b]the prophet Jonah.” And He left them and departed.
