¹⁰ And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, ^(A)“Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—that they might accuse Him.

¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had ^(A)healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, ^(B)“There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and ^(C)not on the Sabbath day.”

¹⁶ Therefore some of the Pharisees said, “This Man is not from God, because He does not ^[a]keep the Sabbath.”

Others said, ^(A)“How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And ^(B)there was a division among them.

⁶ This they said, testing Him, that they ^(A)might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, ^[a]as though He did not hear.

¹⁰ The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath; ^(A)it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.”

⁵⁴ lying in wait for Him, ^[a]and ^(A)seeking to catch Him in something He might say, ^[b]that they might accuse Him.

¹⁷ Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

¹⁸ But Jesus ^[a]perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites?

³ And Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, ^(A)“Is it lawful to heal on the ^[a]Sabbath?”

⁴ But they kept silent. And He took him and healed him, and let him go. ⁵ Then He answered them, saying, ^(B)“Which of you, having a ^[b]donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?” ⁶ And they could not answer Him regarding these things.

² And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!”
