²⁴ “A disciple is not above the teacher nor a slave above the master;^{(A) 25} it is enough for the disciple to be like the teacher and the slave like the master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household!^(B)

²³ Then he said to them all, “If any wish to come after me, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.^{(A) 24} For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it.^(B)

¹⁵ For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, “Abba!^[a] Father!”^{(A) 16} it is that very Spirit bearing witness^[b] with our spirit that we are children of God,^{(B) 17} and if children, then heirs: heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if we in fact suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.^(C)

²⁹ For he has graciously granted you the privilege not only of believing in Christ but of suffering for him as well,^(A)

²¹ For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in his steps.^(A)
