²⁴ “A disciple is not above the teacher nor a slave above the master;^(A)

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, ‘Slaves are not greater than their master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.^(A)

⁴⁰ A disciple is not above the teacher, but every disciple who is fully qualified will be like the teacher.^(A)

¹⁶ Very truly, I tell you, slaves are not greater than their master, nor are messengers^[a] greater than the one who sent them.^(A)

² looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who for the sake of^[a] the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.^(A)

³ Consider him who endured such hostility against himself from sinners,^[b] so that you may not grow weary in your souls or lose heart.^{(B) 4} In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

¹¹ Uriah said to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah remain in booths,^[a] and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are camping in the open field; shall I then go to my house to eat and to drink and to lie with my wife? As you live and as your soul lives, I will not do such a thing.”^(A)
