^2 (A)Abraham was the father of Isaac, and ^(B)Isaac the father of Jacob, and ^(C)Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,

⁸ And ^(A)he gave him the covenant of circumcision. And ^(B)so Abraham became the father of Isaac, and ^(C)circumcised him on the eighth day, and ^(D)Isaac became the father of Jacob, and ^(E)Jacob of the twelve patriarchs.

¹⁷ By faith ^(A)Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, ¹⁸ of whom it was said, ^(B)“Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”

2 These are the sons of ^(A)Israel: ^(B)Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, ^(C)Issachar, Zebulun, ^2 (D)Dan, ^(E)Joseph, ^(F)Benjamin, ^(G)Naphtali, ^(H)Gad, and Asher. ^3 (I)The sons of Judah: ^(J)Er, Onan and Shelah; these three Bath-shua the Canaanite bore to him. Now Er, Judah's firstborn, was evil in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death. ⁴ His daughter-in-law ^(K)Tamar also bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.

^8 (A)Now ^(B)these are the names of the descendants of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons. ^(C)Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, ⁹ and the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. ¹⁰ The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman. ¹¹ The sons of ^(D)Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ¹² The sons of ^(E)Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but ^(F)Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan); and the sons of ^(G)Perez were Hezron and Hamul. ^13 (H)The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puvah, Yob, and Shimron. ¹⁴ The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel. ¹⁵ These are the sons of Leah, ^(I)whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, together with his daughter Dinah; altogether his sons and his daughters numbered thirty-three.

¹⁶ The sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli. ^17 (J)The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, with Serah their sister. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel. ^18 (K)These are the sons of Zilpah, ^(L)whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter; and these she bore to Jacob—sixteen persons.

¹⁹ The sons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁰ And ^(M)to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera the priest of ^(N)On, bore to him. ²¹ And ^(O)the sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. ²² These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob—fourteen persons in all.

²³ The son^[a] of Dan: Hushim. ^24 (P)The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem. ^25 (Q)These are the sons of Bilhah, ^(R)whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, and these she bore to Jacob—seven persons in all.

²⁶ All the persons belonging to Jacob who came into Egypt, who were his own descendants, not including Jacob's sons' wives, were sixty-six persons in all. ²⁷ And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two. ^(S)All the persons of the house of Jacob who came into Egypt were seventy.

²⁶ Afterward his brother came out with ^(A)his hand holding Esau's heel, so ^(B)his name was called Jacob.^[a] Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

² And Sarah ^(A)conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age ^(B)at the time of which God had spoken to him. ³ Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him, ^(C)Isaac.^{[a] 4} And Abraham ^(D)circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, ^(E)as God had commanded him. ^5 (F)Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

¹¹ By faith ^(A)Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered ^(B)him faithful who had promised.
