Signs of the End of the Age

As he sat on (A)the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him (B)privately, saying, “Tell us, (C)when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your (D)coming and of (E)the end of the age?” And Jesus answered them, (F)“See that no one leads you astray. For (G)many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am (H)the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you (I)are not alarmed, for this (J)must take place, but the end is not yet. For (K)nation will rise against nation, and (L)kingdom against kingdom, and there will be (M)famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of (N)the birth pains.

“Then (O)they will deliver you up (P)to tribulation and (Q)put you to death, and (R)you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then many will fall away[a] and (S)betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many (T)false prophets will arise (U)and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, (V)the love of many will grow cold. 13 (W)But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom (X)will be proclaimed throughout the whole world (Y)as a testimony (Z)to all nations, and (AA)then the end will come.

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives,(A) the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming(B) and of the end of the age?”(C)

Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.(D) For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.(E) You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.(F) There will be famines(G) and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted(H) and put to death,(I) and you will be hated by all nations because of me.(J) 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets(K) will appear and deceive many people.(L) 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(M) 14 And this gospel of the kingdom(N) will be preached in the whole world(O) as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

The Hatred of the World

18 (A)“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 (B)If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because (C)you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you: (D)‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, (E)they will also persecute you. (F)If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 21 But (G)all these things they will do to you (H)on account of my name, (I)because they do not know him who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, (J)they would not have been guilty of sin,[a] but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 (K)Whoever hates me hates my Father also. 24 (L)If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, (M)they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have (N)seen and hated both me and my Father. 25 But (O)the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: (P)‘They hated me without a cause.’

The World Hates the Disciples

18 “If the world hates you,(A) keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you(B) out of the world. That is why the world hates you.(C) 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’[a](D) If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.(E) If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name,(F) for they do not know the one who sent me.(G) 22 If I had not come and spoken to them,(H) they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.(I) 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did,(J) they would not be guilty of sin.(K) As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law:(L) ‘They hated me without reason.’[b](M)
