¹⁷ And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. ^(A)If you would enter life, keep the commandments.”

^5 (A)You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules; ^(B)if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the Lord.

¹¹ Now it is evident that ^(A)no one is justified before God by the law, for ^(B)“The righteous shall live by faith.”^{[a] 12} But the law is not of faith, rather ^(C)“The one who does them shall live by them.” ¹³ Christ ^(D)redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ^(E)“Cursed is everyone who is hanged ^(F)on a tree”—

²⁶ He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” ²⁷ And he answered, ^(A)“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and ^(B)your neighbor as yourself.” ²⁸ And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; ^(C)do this, and you will live.”

The Message of Salvation to All

⁵ For ^(A)Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that ^(B)the person who does the commandments shall live by them.
