Jesus Is Equal with God

18 This was why the Jews (A)were seeking all the more to kill him, (B)because not only was he (C)breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God (D)his own Father, (E)making himself equal with God.

The Authority of the Son

19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, (F)the Son (G)can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father[a] does, that the Son does likewise. 20 For (H)the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And (I)greater works than these will he show him, so that (J)you may marvel. 21 For as the Father (K)raises the dead and (L)gives them life, so (M)also the Son gives life (N)to whom he will. 22 (O)For the Father judges no one, but (P)has given all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son, just as they (Q)honor the Father. (R)Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

  1. John 5:19 Greek he

17 In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father(A) is always at his work(B) to this very day, and I too am working.” 18 For this reason they tried all the more to kill him;(C) not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.(D)

19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself;(E) he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son(F) and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these,(G) so that you will be amazed. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life,(H) even so the Son gives life(I) to whom he is pleased to give it. 22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,(J) 23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.(K)

And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. And Peter said to Jesus, (A)“Rabbi,[a] it is good that we are here. Let us make three (B)tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” For (C)he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. And (D)a cloud overshadowed them, and (E)a voice came out of the cloud, (F)“This is my beloved Son;[b] (G)listen to him.”
