11 So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.[a] 12 For he said to God,

“I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters.
    I will praise you among your assembled people.”[b]

13 He also said,

“I will put my trust in him,”
    that is, “I and the children God has given me.”[c]

14 Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had[d] the power of death. 15 Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

16 We also know that the Son did not come to help angels; he came to help the descendants of Abraham. 17 Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters,[e] so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people.

11 Both the one who makes people holy(A) and those who are made holy(B) are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.[a](C) 12 He says,

“I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters;
    in the assembly I will sing your praises.”[b](D)

13 And again,

“I will put my trust in him.”[c](E)

And again he says,

“Here am I, and the children God has given me.”[d](F)

14 Since the children have flesh and blood,(G) he too shared in their humanity(H) so that by his death he might break the power(I) of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil(J) 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear(K) of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.(L) 17 For this reason he had to be made like them,[e](M) fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful(N) and faithful high priest(O) in service to God,(P) and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.(Q)
