²³ “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”^[a](A) (which means “God with us”).

²¹ Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm^(A) in Christ. He anointed^(B) us,

²² set his seal^(A) of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.^(B)

⁷ Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.^{(A) 8} To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom,^(B) to another a message of knowledge^(C) by means of the same Spirit, ⁹ to another faith^(D) by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing^(E) by that one Spirit, ¹⁰ to another miraculous powers,^(F) to another prophecy,^(G) to another distinguishing between spirits,^(H) to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,^[a](I) and to still another the interpretation of tongues.^{[b] 11} All these are the work of one and the same Spirit,^(J) and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

Unity and Diversity in the Body

¹² Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body,^(K) so it is with Christ.^{(L) 13} For we were all baptized^(M) by^[c] one Spirit^(N) so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free^(O)—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.^(P)

²² I did not see a temple^(A) in the city, because the Lord God Almighty^(B) and the Lamb^(C) are its temple. ²³ The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God^(D) gives it light,^(E) and the Lamb^(F) is its lamp. ²⁴ The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.^{(G) 25} On no day will its gates^(H) ever be shut,^(I) for there will be no night there.^{(J) 26} The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.^{(K) 27} Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful,^(L) but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.^(M)

Eden Restored

22 Then the angel showed me the river^(N) of the water of life,^(O) as clear as crystal,^(P) flowing^(Q) from the throne of God and of the Lamb ² down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life,^(R) bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.^{(S) 3} No longer will there be any curse.^(T) The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.^(U)
