Jesús enseña sobre tres prácticas de piedad
6 »No hagan sus buenas obras delante de la gente sólo para que los demás los vean. Si lo hacen así, su Padre que está en el cielo no les dará ningún premio.
1. Sobre la limosna
2 »Por eso, cuando ayudes a los necesitados, no lo publiques a los cuatro vientos, como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles para que la gente hable bien de ellos. Les aseguro que con eso ya tienen su premio. 3 Cuando tú ayudes a los necesitados, no se lo cuentes ni siquiera a tu amigo más íntimo; 4 hazlo en secreto. Y tu Padre, que ve lo que haces en secreto, te dará tu premio.
2. Sobre la oración(A)
5 »Cuando ustedes oren, no sean como los hipócritas, a quienes les gusta orar de pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las plazas para que la gente los vea. Les aseguro que con eso ya tienen su premio. 6 Pero tú, cuando ores, entra en tu cuarto, cierra la puerta y ora a tu Padre en secreto. Y tu Padre, que ve lo que haces en secreto, te dará tu premio.
7 »Y al orar no repitan ustedes palabras inútiles, como hacen los paganos, que se imaginan que cuanto más hablen más caso les hará Dios. 8 No sean como ellos, porque su Padre ya sabe lo que ustedes necesitan, antes que se lo pidan. 9 Ustedes deben orar así:
»“Padre nuestro que estás en el cielo,
santificado sea tu nombre.
10 Venga tu reino.
Hágase tu voluntad en la tierra,
así como se hace en el cielo.
11 Danos hoy el pan que necesitamos.
12 Perdónanos el mal que hemos hecho,
así como nosotros hemos perdonado
a los que nos han hecho mal.
13 No nos expongas a la tentación,
sino líbranos del maligno.”
14 »Porque si ustedes perdonan a otros el mal que les han hecho, su Padre que está en el cielo los perdonará también a ustedes; 15 pero si no perdonan a otros, tampoco su Padre les perdonará a ustedes sus pecados.
3. Sobre el ayuno
16 »Cuando ustedes ayunen, no pongan cara triste, como los hipócritas, que aparentan tristeza para que la gente vea que están ayunando. Les aseguro que con eso ya tienen su premio. 17 Tú, cuando ayunes, lávate la cara y arréglate bien, 18 para que la gente no note que estás ayunando. Solamente lo notará tu Padre, que está en lo oculto, y tu Padre que ve en lo oculto te dará tu recompensa.
Riquezas en el cielo(B)
19 »No amontonen riquezas aquí en la tierra, donde la polilla destruye y las cosas se echan a perder, y donde los ladrones entran a robar. 20 Más bien amontonen riquezas en el cielo, donde la polilla no destruye ni las cosas se echan a perder ni los ladrones entran a robar. 21 Pues donde esté tu riqueza, allí estará también tu corazón.
La lámpara del cuerpo(C)
22 »Los ojos son la lámpara del cuerpo; así que, si tus ojos son buenos, todo tu cuerpo tendrá luz; 23 pero si tus ojos son malos, todo tu cuerpo estará en oscuridad. Y si la luz que hay en ti resulta ser oscuridad, ¡qué negra será la oscuridad misma!
Dios y las riquezas(D)
24 »Nadie puede servir a dos amos, porque odiará a uno y querrá al otro, o será fiel a uno y despreciará al otro. No se puede servir a Dios y a las riquezas.
Dios cuida de sus hijos(E)
25 »Por lo tanto, yo les digo: No se preocupen por lo que han de comer o beber para vivir, ni por la ropa que necesitan para el cuerpo. ¿No vale la vida más que la comida y el cuerpo más que la ropa? 26 Miren las aves que vuelan por el aire: no siembran ni cosechan ni guardan la cosecha en graneros; sin embargo, el Padre de ustedes que está en el cielo les da de comer. ¡Y ustedes valen más que las aves! 27 En todo caso, por mucho que uno se preocupe, ¿cómo podrá prolongar su vida ni siquiera una hora?
28 »¿Y por qué se preocupan ustedes por la ropa? Fíjense cómo crecen los lirios del campo: no trabajan ni hilan. 29 Sin embargo, les digo que ni siquiera el rey Salomón, con todo su lujo, se vestía como uno de ellos. 30 Pues si Dios viste así a la hierba, que hoy está en el campo y mañana se quema en el horno, ¡con mayor razón los vestirá a ustedes, gente falta de fe! 31 Así que no se preocupen, preguntándose: “¿Qué vamos a comer?” o “¿Qué vamos a beber?” o “¿Con qué vamos a vestirnos?” 32 Todas estas cosas son las que preocupan a los paganos, pero ustedes tienen un Padre celestial que ya sabe que las necesitan. 33 Por lo tanto, pongan toda su atención en el reino de los cielos y en hacer lo que es justo ante Dios, y recibirán también todas estas cosas. 34 No se preocupen por el día de mañana, porque mañana habrá tiempo para preocuparse. Cada día tiene bastante con sus propios problemas.

6 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4 that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. 16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; 18 that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 and yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Giving to the Needy
6 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them.(A) If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.(B)
Prayer(C)
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing(D) in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,(E) who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling(F) like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.(G) 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need(H) before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father(I) in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom(J) come,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Fasting
16 “When you fast,(R) do not look somber(S) as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.(T)
Treasures in Heaven(U)
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,(V) where moths and vermin destroy,(W) and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,(X) where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.(Y) 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.(Z)
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[c] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[d] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.(AA)
Do Not Worry(AB)
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry(AC) about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.(AD) Are you not much more valuable than they?(AE) 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?(AF)
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor(AG) was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?(AH) 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.(AI) 33 But seek first his kingdom(AJ) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.(AK) 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

6 Var försiktiga! Gör inte det som är gott bara för att man ska lägga märke till er, för då kan ni inte vänta er någon lön av er Far i himlen.
2 När ni ger en gåva till en tiggare, så ropa inte ut det som hycklarna gör. De basunerar ut sin godhet i synagogorna och på gatorna för att dra uppmärksamheten till sig genom sina goda gärningar! Jag försäkrar er: De har redan fått den lön de ska ha.
3 Och om du hjälper någon, så gör det hemligt. Din vänstra hand ska inte veta vad den högra gör.
4 Då kommer din Far som ser allt att belöna dig.
Om bön
5 Och nu kommer vi till bönen. Var inte som hycklarna när ni ber. De spelar gudfruktiga genom att be offentligt i gathörnen och i synagogorna där alla kan se dem. De har verkligen ingenting att vänta sig från Gud.
6 När du ber gå då in i ditt rum och stäng dörren efter dig och be i avskildhet till din Far. Då ska din Far, som känner dina hemligaste tankar, belöna dig.
7-8 Rabbla inte upp samma bön gång på gång. Det gör de som inte känner Gud. De tror att bönen blir besvarad bara man använder många ord. Kom ihåg att er Far vet precis vad ni behöver, innan ni ens ber honom om det!
9 Be så här i stället:Vår Far i himlen, vi ärar ditt heliga namn.
10 Vi ber att ditt rike snart ska komma. Låt din vilja ske här på jorden, så som den sker i himlen.
11 Ge oss vår mat i dag som du brukar,
12 och förlåt oss våra synder liksom vi förlåter dem som syndar mot oss.
13 Led oss inte in i frestelser utan befria oss från den Onde. Amen.
14-15 Er himmelske Far kommer att förlåta er, om ni förlåter dem som syndar mot er. Och vägrar ni att förlåta dem, kommer inte han att förlåta er.
Om fasta
16 Och nu till fastan. När ni fastar - alltså av andliga skäl avstår från mat - så gör det inte offentligt som hycklarna gör. De ser dystra och bedrövade ut för att andra ska lägga märke till dem och tycka att de är andliga. Det är också den enda belöning de kommer att få.
17 När ni fastar ska ni se så oberörda ut som möjligt.
18 Låt det vara en hemlighet mellan er och er Far i himlen. Han vet allt och ska belöna er.
Om pengar
19 Skaffa er inte rikedomar här på jorden. De förlorar snart sitt värde och kan bli stulna.
20 Samla dem i himlen i stället där de aldrig kommer att förlora sitt värde och där de är säkra för tjuvar.
21 Om er skatt finns i himlen då kommer också ert hjärta att vara där.
22 Om ditt öga är rent blir det ljust i ditt inre.
23 Men om ditt öga är förmörkat av onda tankar och begär så är du i djupt andligt mörker, och det mörkret är verkligen nattsvart!
24 Ni kan inte tjäna två herrar för då kommer ni att hata den ene och älska den andre. Därför kan ni inte heller leva för Gud och samtidigt lida av penningbegär.
Om oro och bekymmer
25 Därför säger jag: Oroa er inte för pengar till mat och dryck och för kläder att ha på kroppen. Livet är mer än att äta och dricka, och en människa betyder mer än kläderna hon har på sig.
26 Se på fåglarna! De oroar sig inte över vad de ska äta. De behöver inte så eller skörda eller skaffa sig matförråd för er himmelske Far ger dem mat. Och ni är mycket mer värda för honom än de.
27 Kan all er oro lägga ett enda ögonblick till era liv?
28 Och varför bekymrar ni er för kläder? Se på liljorna på fälten. De bekymrar sig inte för sina kläder.
29 Och ändå var inte kung Salomo i all sin prakt så vackert klädd som de.
30 Och om Gud nu på ett så underbart sätt bryr sig om blommorna, som står här i dag och är borta i morgon, ska han då inte ha omsorg om er? Litar ni alltjämt så lite på Gud?
31-32 Oroa er alltså inte för vad ni ska äta och dricka. Varför är ni som de som inte känner honom? De jagar efter allt detta och bekymrar sig för det. Men er himmelske Far vet redan vad ni behöver.
33 Och han kommer att med glädje ge er allt vad ni behöver, om ni ger honom första platsen i era liv och lever efter hans vilja.
34 Bekymra er alltså inte för morgondagen. Även den kommer Gud att ta hand om.
