Jesús y la limosna
6 »Cuidado con hacer sus obras de justicia sólo para que la gente los vea.(A) Si lo hacen así, su Padre que está en los cielos no les dará ninguna recompensa.
2 Cuando tú des limosna, no toques trompeta delante de ti, como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles, para que la gente los alabe. De cierto les digo que con eso ya se han ganado su recompensa. 3 Pero cuando tú des limosna, asegúrate de que tu mano izquierda no sepa lo que hace la derecha; 4 así tu limosna será en secreto, y tu Padre que ve en lo secreto te recompensará en público.

5 »Cuando ores, no seas como los hipócritas, porque a ellos les encanta orar en pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las calles, para que la gente los vea;(C) de cierto les digo que con eso ya se han ganado su recompensa. 6 Pero tú, cuando ores, entra en tu aposento, y con la puerta cerrada(D) ora a tu Padre que está en secreto, y tu Padre que ve en lo secreto te recompensará en público.
7 »Cuando ustedes oren, no sean repetitivos, como los paganos, que piensan que por hablar mucho serán escuchados. 8 No sean como ellos, porque su Padre ya sabe de lo que ustedes tienen necesidad, antes de que ustedes le pidan. 9 Por eso, ustedes deben orar así:
“Padre nuestro, que estás en los cielos,
santificado sea tu nombre.
10 Venga tu reino.
Hágase tu voluntad,
en la tierra como en el cielo.
11 El pan nuestro de cada día, dánoslo hoy.
12 Perdónanos nuestras deudas,
como también nosotros perdonamos a nuestros deudores.
13 No nos metas en tentación,
sino líbranos del mal.”
[Porque tuyo es el reino,
el poder, y la gloria,(E)
por todos los siglos. Amén.][a]
14 Si ustedes perdonan a los otros sus ofensas, también su Padre celestial los perdonará a ustedes. 15 Pero si ustedes no perdonan a los otros sus ofensas, tampoco el Padre de ustedes les perdonará sus ofensas.(F)

16 »Cuando ustedes ayunen, no se muestren afligidos, como los hipócritas, porque ellos demudan su rostro para mostrar a la gente que están ayunando; de cierto les digo que ya se han ganado su recompensa. 17 Pero tú, cuando ayunes, perfúmate la cabeza y lávate la cara, 18 para no mostrar a los demás que estás ayunando, sino a tu Padre que está en secreto, y tu Padre que ve en lo secreto te recompensará en público.
Tesoros en el cielo(G)
19 »No acumulen ustedes tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y el óxido corroen,(H) y donde los ladrones minan y hurtan. 20 Por el contrario, acumulen tesoros en el cielo, donde ni la polilla ni el óxido corroen, y donde los ladrones no minan ni hurtan. 21 Pues donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón.
La lámpara del cuerpo(I)
22 »La lámpara del cuerpo es el ojo; así que, si tu ojo es bueno, todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de luz; 23 pero si tu ojo es malo, todo tu cuerpo estará a oscuras. Y si la luz que hay en ti es oscuridad, ¡cuán oscura no será la misma oscuridad!

24 »Nadie puede servir a dos amos, pues odiará a uno y amará al otro, o estimará a uno y menospreciará al otro. Ustedes no pueden servir a Dios y a las riquezas.[b]

25 »Por lo tanto les digo: No se preocupen por su vida, ni por qué comerán o qué beberán; ni con qué cubrirán su cuerpo. ¿Acaso no vale más la vida que el alimento, y el cuerpo más que el vestido? 26 Miren las aves del cielo, que no siembran, ni cosechan, ni recogen en graneros, y el Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿Acaso no valen ustedes mucho más que ellas? 27 ¿Y quién de ustedes, por mucho que lo intente, puede añadir medio metro a su estatura? 28 ¿Y por qué se preocupan por el vestido? Observen cómo crecen los lirios del campo: no trabajan ni hilan, 29 y aun así ni el mismo Salomón, con toda su gloria,(L) se vistió como uno de ellos. 30 Pues si Dios viste así a la hierba, que hoy está en el campo y mañana se echa en el horno, ¿no hará mucho más por ustedes, hombres de poca fe? 31 Por lo tanto, no se preocupen ni se pregunten “¿Qué comeremos, o qué beberemos, o qué vestiremos?” 32 Porque la gente anda tras todo esto, pero su Padre celestial sabe que ustedes tienen necesidad de todas estas cosas. 33 Por lo tanto, busquen primeramente el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas estas cosas les serán añadidas.
34 »Así que, no se preocupen por el día de mañana, porque el día de mañana traerá sus propias preocupaciones. ¡Ya bastante tiene cada día con su propio mal!

Teaching About Charitable Giving
6 “Be sure that you not do your charitable deeds before men to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
2 “Therefore, when you do your charitable deeds, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do your charitable deeds, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 that your charitable deeds may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
The Lord’s Prayer(A)
5 “When you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, enter your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 But when you pray, do not use vain repetitions, as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their much speaking. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what things you have need of before you ask Him.
9 “Therefore pray in this manner:
Our Father who is in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come;
Your will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
14 For if you forgive men for their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men for their sins, neither will your Father forgive your sins.

16 “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces so they may appear to men to be fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. 17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 so that you will not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

Are you not much better than they? 27 Who among you by taking thought can add a cubit[a] to his stature?
28 “Why take thought about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: They neither work, nor do they spin. 29 Yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these. 30 Therefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is here and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore, take no thought, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 (For the Gentiles seek after all these things.) For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you. 34 Therefore, take no thought about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take thought about the things of itself. Sufficient to the day is the trouble thereof.

Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.(B)

Fasting
16 “When you fast,(R) do not look somber(S) as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.(T)
Treasures in Heaven(U)
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,(V) where moths and vermin destroy,(W) and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,(X) where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.(Y) 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.(Z)
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[c] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[d] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.(AA)
Do Not Worry(AB)
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry(AC) about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.(AD) Are you not much more valuable than they?(AE) 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?(AF)
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor(AG) was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?(AH) 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.(AI) 33 But seek first his kingdom(AJ) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.(AK) 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
