Jesús es tentado
4 (A)Entonces Jesús fue llevado por el Espíritu al desierto para ser tentado por el diablo. 2 Después de haber ayunado cuarenta días y cuarenta noches(B), entonces[a] tuvo hambre. 3 Y acercándose el tentador(C), le dijo: «Si eres Hijo de Dios(D), ordena que estas piedras se conviertan en pan[b]». 4 Pero Jesús le respondió: «Escrito está: “No solo de pan vivirá el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios(E)”».
5 Entonces el diablo lo llevó* a la ciudad santa(F), y lo puso sobre el pináculo del templo, 6 y le dijo*: «Si eres Hijo de Dios, lánzate abajo, pues escrito está:
“A Sus ángeles te encomendará”,
Y:
“En las manos te llevarán,
No sea que Tu pie tropiece en piedra(G)”».
7 Jesús le contestó: «También está escrito: “No tentarás[c]al Señor tu Dios(H)”».
8 Otra vez el diablo lo llevó* a un monte muy alto, y le mostró* todos los reinos del mundo(I) y la gloria de ellos, 9 y le dijo: «Todo esto te daré, si te postras y me adoras(J)». 10 Entonces Jesús le dijo*: «¡Vete, Satanás! Porque escrito está: “Al Señor tu Dios adorarás, y solo a Él servirás[d](K)”». 11 El diablo entonces lo dejó*; y al instante, unos ángeles vinieron y le servían(L).
Jesús va a Galilea
12 Cuando Jesús oyó que Juan había sido encarcelado[e](M), regresó a Galilea(N). 13 Saliendo de Nazaret, fue a vivir en Capernaúm(O), que está junto al mar, en la región de Zabulón y de Neftalí; 14 para que se cumpliera lo que fue dicho por medio del profeta Isaías, cuando dijo:
15 «¡Tierra de Zabulón y tierra de Neftalí,
Camino del mar[f], al otro lado del Jordán, Galilea de los gentiles[g](P)!
16 -»El pueblo asentado en tinieblas vio una gran Luz,
Y a los que vivían[h] en región y sombra de muerte,
Una Luz les resplandeció[i](Q)».
17 Desde entonces Jesús comenzó a predicar:[j](R) «Arrepiéntanse, porque el reino de los cielos se ha acercado(S)».
Llamamiento de los primeros discípulos
18 (T)Andando Jesús junto al mar de Galilea(U), vio a dos hermanos, Simón, llamado Pedro(V), y Andrés su hermano, echando una red al mar, porque eran pescadores. 19 Y les dijo*: «Vengan en pos de Mí, y Yo los haré pescadores de hombres». 20 Entonces ellos, dejando al instante las redes, lo siguieron.
21 Y pasando de allí, Jesús vio a otros dos hermanos, Jacobo[k](W), hijo de Zebedeo, y Juan su hermano, en la barca con su padre Zebedeo, remendando sus redes, y los llamó. 22 Y ellos, dejando al instante la barca y a su padre, lo siguieron.
La fama de Jesús se extiende
23 Y Jesús iba por toda Galilea(X), enseñando(Y) en sus sinagogas, proclamando(Z) el evangelio del reino, y sanando(AA) toda enfermedad y toda dolencia en el pueblo. 24 Se extendió Su fama por toda Siria(AB); y traían a Él todos los que estaban enfermos, afectados con diversas enfermedades y dolores, los endemoniados(AC), epilépticos[l](AD) y paralíticos(AE), y Él los sanaba. 25 Y lo siguieron grandes multitudes(AF) de Galilea, Decápolis(AG), Jerusalén y Judea, y del otro lado del Jordán(AH).

4 Then Jesus was led (guided) by the [Holy] Spirit into the wilderness (desert) to be tempted (tested and tried) by the devil.
2 And He went without food for forty days and forty nights, and later He was hungry.(A)
3 And the tempter came and said to Him, If You are God’s Son, command these stones to be made [[a]loaves of] bread.
4 But He replied, It has been written, Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.(B)
5 Then the devil took Him into the holy city and placed Him on [b]a turret (pinnacle, [c]gable) of the temple [d]sanctuary.(C)
6 And he said to Him, If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, He will give His angels charge over you, and they will bear you up on their hands, lest you strike your foot against a stone.(D)
7 Jesus said to him, [e]On the other hand, it is written also, You shall not tempt, [f]test thoroughly, or [g]try exceedingly the Lord your God.(E)
8 Again, the devil took Him up on a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory (the splendor, magnificence, preeminence, and excellence) of them.
9 And he said to Him, These things, all taken together, I will give You, if You will prostrate Yourself before me and do homage and worship me.
10 Then Jesus said to him, Begone, Satan! For it has been written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him alone shall you serve.(F)
11 Then the devil departed from Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.
12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested and put in prison, He withdrew into Galilee.
13 And leaving Nazareth, He went and dwelt in Capernaum by the sea, in the country of Zebulun and Naphtali—
14 That what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be brought to pass:
15 The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, in the [h]way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles [of the [i]peoples who are not of Israel]—(G)
16 The people who sat [j](dwelt enveloped) in darkness have seen a great Light, and for those who sat in the land and shadow of death Light has dawned.
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, [k]crying out, Repent ([l]change your mind for the better, heartily amend your ways, with abhorrence of your past sins), for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
18 As He was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He noticed two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, throwing a dragnet into the sea, for they were fishermen.
19 And He said to them, Come [m]after Me [as disciples—letting Me be your Guide], follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men!
20 At once they left their nets and [n]became His disciples [sided with His party and followed Him].
21 And going on further from there He noticed two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets and putting them right; and He called them.
22 At once they left the boat and their father and [o]joined Jesus as disciples [sided with His party and followed Him].
23 And He went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the good news (Gospel) of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every weakness and infirmity among the people.
24 So the report of Him spread throughout all Syria, and they brought Him all who were sick, those afflicted with various diseases and torments, those under the power of demons, and epileptics, and paralyzed people, and He healed them.
25 And great crowds joined and accompanied Him about, coming from Galilee and Decapolis [the district of the ten cities east of the Sea of Galilee] and Jerusalem and Judea and from the other [the east] side of the Jordan.

4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.

Jesus Begins His Galilean Ministry(M)
12 (N)Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee. 13 And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
15 “The(O) land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles:
16 (P)The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,
And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death
Light has dawned.”

Four Fishermen Called as Disciples(S)
18 (T)And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon (U)called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and (V)I will make you fishers of men.” 20 (W)They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
21 (X)Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
Jesus Heals a Great Multitude(Y)
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, (Z)teaching in their synagogues, preaching (AA)the gospel of the kingdom, (AB)and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. 24 Then [d]His fame went throughout all Syria; and they (AC)brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. 25 (AD)Great multitudes followed Him—from Galilee, and from [e]Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.
