Jesús anuncia que el templo será destruido(A)
24 Jesús salió del templo, y ya se iba, cuando sus discípulos se acercaron y comenzaron a atraer su atención a los edificios del templo. 2 Jesús les dijo:
—¿Ven ustedes todo esto? Pues les aseguro que aquí no va a quedar ni una piedra sobre otra. Todo será destruido.
Señales antes del fin(B)
3 Luego se fueron al Monte de los Olivos. Jesús se sentó, y los discípulos se le acercaron para preguntarle aparte:
—Queremos que nos digas cuándo va a ocurrir esto. ¿Cuál será la señal de tu regreso y del fin del mundo?
4 Jesús les contestó:
—Tengan cuidado de que nadie los engañe. 5 Porque vendrán muchos haciéndose pasar por mí. Dirán: “Yo soy el Mesías”, y engañarán a mucha gente. 6 Ustedes tendrán noticias de que hay guerras aquí y allá; pero no se asusten, pues así tiene que ocurrir; sin embargo, aún no será el fin. 7 Porque una nación peleará contra otra y un país hará guerra contra otro; y habrá hambres y terremotos en muchos lugares. 8 Pero todo eso apenas será el comienzo de los dolores.
9 »Entonces los entregarán a ustedes para que los maltraten; y los matarán, y todo el mundo los odiará por causa mía. 10 En aquel tiempo muchos renegarán de su fe, y se odiarán y se traicionarán unos a otros. 11 Aparecerán muchos falsos profetas, y engañarán a mucha gente. 12 Habrá tanta maldad, que la mayoría dejará de tener amor hacia los demás. 13 Pero el que siga firme hasta el fin, se salvará. 14 Y esta buena noticia del reino será anunciada en todo el mundo, para que todas las naciones la conozcan; entonces vendrá el fin.
15 »El profeta Daniel escribió acerca del horrible sacrilegio. Cuando ustedes lo vean en el Lugar santo —el que lee, entienda—, 16 entonces los que estén en Judea, que huyan a las montañas; 17 y el que esté en la azotea de su casa, que no baje a sacar nada; 18 y el que esté en el campo, que no regrese ni aun a recoger su ropa. 19 ¡Pobres mujeres aquellas que en tales días estén embarazadas o tengan niños de pecho! 20 Pidan ustedes a Dios que no hayan de huir en el invierno ni en sábado; 21 porque habrá entonces un sufrimiento tan grande como nunca lo ha habido desde el comienzo del mundo ni lo habrá después. 22 Y si Dios no acortara ese tiempo, no se salvaría nadie; pero lo acortará por amor a los que ha escogido.
23 »Si entonces alguien les dice a ustedes: “Miren, aquí está el Mesías”, o “Miren, allí está”, no lo crean. 24 Porque vendrán falsos mesías y falsos profetas; y harán grandes señales y milagros, para engañar, a ser posible, hasta a los que Dios mismo ha escogido. 25 Ya se lo he advertido a ustedes de antemano. 26 Por eso, si les dicen: “Miren, allí está, en el desierto”, no vayan; o si les dicen: “Miren, aquí está escondido”, no lo crean. 27 Porque como un relámpago que se ve brillar de oriente a occidente, así será cuando regrese el Hijo del hombre. 28 Donde esté el cadáver, allí se juntarán los buitres.
El regreso del Hijo del hombre(C)
29 »Tan pronto como pasen aquellos días de sufrimiento, el sol se oscurecerá, la luna dejará de dar su luz, las estrellas caerán del cielo y las fuerzas celestiales temblarán. 30 Entonces se verá en el cielo la señal del Hijo del hombre, y llenos de terror todos los pueblos del mundo llorarán, y verán al Hijo del hombre que viene en las nubes del cielo con gran poder y gloria. 31 Y él mandará a sus ángeles con una gran trompeta, para que reúnan a sus escogidos de los cuatro puntos cardinales, desde un extremo del cielo hasta el otro.
32 »Aprendan esta enseñanza de la higuera: Cuando sus ramas se ponen tiernas, y brotan sus hojas, se dan cuenta ustedes de que ya el verano está cerca. 33 De la misma manera, cuando vean todo esto, sepan que el Hijo del hombre ya está a la puerta. 34 Les aseguro que todo esto sucederá antes que muera la gente de este tiempo. 35 El cielo y la tierra dejarán de existir, pero mis palabras no dejarán de cumplirse.
36 »En cuanto al día y la hora, nadie lo sabe, ni aun los ángeles del cielo, ni el Hijo. Solamente lo sabe el Padre.
37 »Como sucedió en tiempos de Noé, así sucederá también cuando regrese el Hijo del hombre. 38 En aquellos tiempos antes del diluvio, y hasta el día en que Noé entró en la barca, la gente comía y bebía y se casaba. 39 Pero cuando menos lo esperaban, vino el diluvio y se los llevó a todos. Así sucederá también cuando regrese el Hijo del hombre. 40 En aquel momento, de dos hombres que estén en el campo, uno será llevado y el otro será dejado. 41 De dos mujeres que estén moliendo, una será llevada y la otra será dejada.
42 »Manténganse ustedes despiertos, porque no saben qué día va a venir su Señor. 43 Pero sepan esto, que si el dueño de una casa supiera a qué hora de la noche va a llegar el ladrón, se mantendría despierto y no dejaría que nadie se metiera en su casa a robar. 44 Por eso, ustedes también estén preparados; porque el Hijo del hombre vendrá cuando menos lo esperen.
El criado fiel y el criado infiel(D)
45 »¿Quién es el criado fiel y atento, a quien su amo deja encargado de los de su casa, para darles de comer a su debido tiempo? 46 Dichoso el criado a quien su amo, cuando llega, lo encuentra cumpliendo con su deber. 47 Les aseguro que el amo lo pondrá como encargado de todos sus bienes. 48 Pero si ese criado es un malvado, y pensando que su amo va a tardar 49 comienza a maltratar a los otros criados, y se junta con borrachos a comer y beber, 50 el día que menos lo espere y a una hora que no sabe, llegará su amo 51 y lo castigará, condenándolo a correr la misma suerte que los hipócritas. Entonces vendrán el llanto y la desesperación.

Jesus Speaks about the Future
24 As Jesus was leaving the Temple grounds, his disciples pointed out to him the various Temple buildings. 2 But he responded, “Do you see all these buildings? I tell you the truth, they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!”
3 Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?[a]”
4 Jesus told them, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, 5 for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. 7 Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. 8 But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.
9 “Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers.[b] 10 And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. 11 And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. 12 Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations[c] will hear it; and then the end will come.
15 “The day is coming when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about—the sacrilegious object that causes desecration[d] standing in the Holy Place.” (Reader, pay attention!) 16 “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. 17 A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. 18 A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat. 19 How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. 20 And pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For there will be greater anguish than at any time since the world began. And it will never be so great again. 22 In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, not a single person will survive. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones.
23 “Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah,’ or ‘There he is,’ don’t believe it. 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones. 25 See, I have warned you about this ahead of time.
26 “So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it! 27 For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man[e] comes. 28 Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near.[f]
29 “Immediately after the anguish of those days,
the sun will be darkened,
the moon will give no light,
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.[g]
30 And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.[h] 31 And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world[i]—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.
32 “Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. 33 In the same way, when you see all these things, you can know his return is very near, right at the door. 34 I tell you the truth, this generation[j] will not pass from the scene until all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
36 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself.[k] Only the Father knows.
37 “When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day. 38 In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. 39 People didn’t realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.
40 “Two men will be working together in the field; one will be taken, the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding flour at the mill; one will be taken, the other left.
42 “So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming. 43 Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into. 44 You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.
45 “A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. 46 If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. 47 I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. 48 But what if the servant is evil and thinks, ‘My master won’t be back for a while,’ 49 and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting drunk? 50 The master will return unannounced and unexpected, 51 and he will cut the servant to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

24 ¶ Y salido Jesús, se iba del Templo; y se acercaron sus discípulos, para mostrarle los edificios del Templo.
2 Respondiendo él, les dijo: ¿Veis todo esto? De cierto os digo, que no será dejada aquí piedra sobre piedra, que no sea destruida.
3 Y sentándose él en el Monte de las Olivas, se acercaron a él los discípulos aparte, diciendo: Dinos, ¿cuándo serán estas cosas, y qué señal habrá de tu venida, y del fin del siglo?
4 ¶ Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Mirad que nadie os engañe.
5 Porque vendrán muchos en mi nombre, diciendo: Yo soy el Cristo; y a muchos engañarán.
6 Y oiréis guerras, y rumores de guerras; mirad que no os turbéis; porque es necesario que todo esto acontezca; mas aún no es el fin.
7 Porque se levantará nación contra nación, y reino contra reino; y habrá pestilencias, y hambres, y terremotos por los lugares.
8 Y todas estas cosas, son principio de dolores.
9 Entonces os entregarán para ser afligidos, y os matarán; y seréis aborrecidos de todas las naciones por causa de mi nombre.
10 Muchos entonces serán escandalizados; y se entregarán unos a otros, y unos a otros se aborrecerán.
11 Y muchos falsos profetas se levantarán y engañarán a muchos.
12 Y por haberse multiplicado la maldad, la caridad de muchos se enfriará.
13 Mas el que perseverare hasta el fin, éste será salvo.
14 Y será predicado este Evangelio del Reino en el mundo entero, por testimonio a todas las naciones; y entonces vendrá el fin.
15 Por tanto, cuando viereis la abominación de asolamiento, que fue dicha por Daniel profeta, que estará en el lugar santo, (el que lee, entienda).
16 Entonces los que están en Judea, huyan a los montes;
17 y el que sobre el terrado, no descienda a tomar algo de su casa;
18 y el que en el campo, no vuelva otra vez a tomar sus vestidos.
19 Mas ¡ay de las preñadas, y de las que crían en aquellos días!
20 Orad, pues, que vuestra huida no sea en invierno ni en sábado;
21 porque habrá entonces gran tribulación, cual no fue desde el principio del mundo hasta ahora, ni será.
22 Y si aquellos días no fueran acortados, ninguna carne sería salva; mas por causa de los escogidos, aquellos días serán acortados.
23 Entonces, si alguno os dijere: He aquí está el Cristo, o allí, no creáis.
24 Porque se levantarán falsos Cristos, y falsos profetas, y darán señales grandes y prodigios; de tal manera que engañarán, si es posible, aun a los escogidos.
25 He aquí os lo he dicho antes.
26 Así que, si os dijeren: He aquí en el desierto está, no salgáis; he aquí en las cámaras, no creáis.
27 Porque como el relámpago que sale del oriente y se muestra hasta el occidente, así será también la venida del Hijo del hombre.
28 Porque dondequiera que estuviere el cuerpo muerto, allí se juntarán las águilas.
29 Y luego, después de la tribulación de aquellos días, el sol se oscurecerá, y la luna no dará su lumbre, y las estrellas caerán del cielo, y las virtudes de los cielos serán conmovidas.
30 Y entonces se mostrará la señal del Hijo del hombre en el cielo; y entonces lamentarán todas las tribus de la tierra, y verán al Hijo del hombre que vendrá sobre las nubes del cielo, con grande poder y gloria.
31 Y enviará sus ángeles con trompeta y gran voz; y juntarán sus escogidos de los cuatro vientos, de un cabo del cielo hasta el otro.
32 ¶ Del árbol de la higuera aprended la comparación: Cuando ya su rama se enternece, y las hojas brotan, sabéis que el verano está cerca.
33 Así también vosotros, cuando viereis todas estas cosas, sabed que está cercano, a las puertas.
34 De cierto os digo, que no pasará esta generación, que todas estas cosas no acontezcan.
35 El cielo y la tierra pasarán, pero mis palabras no pasarán.
36 Pero del día y hora nadie sabe, ni aun los ángeles de los cielos, sino mi Padre solo.
37 Mas como en los días de Noé, así será la venida del Hijo del hombre.
38 Porque como eran en los días antes del diluvio, estaban comiendo y bebiendo, tomando mujeres los maridos y dándolas los padres, hasta el día que Noé entró en el arca,
39 y no conocieron hasta que vino el diluvio y tomó a todos, así será también la venida del Hijo del hombre.
40 Entonces estarán dos en el campo; el uno será tomado, y el otro será dejado.
41 Dos mujeres estarán moliendo a un molinillo; la una será tomada, y la otra será dejada.
42 Velad pues, porque no sabéis a qué hora ha de venir vuestro Señor.
43 Pero sabed esto, que si el padre de familia supiera a cuál hora el ladrón había de venir, velaría, y no dejaría minar su casa.
44 Por tanto, también vosotros estad apercibidos; porque el Hijo del hombre ha de venir a la hora que no pensáis.
45 ¿Quién pues es el esclavo fiel y prudente, al cual puso su señor sobre su familia para que les dé alimento a tiempo?
46 Bienaventurado aquel esclavo, al cual, cuando su señor viniere, le hallare haciendo así.
47 De cierto os digo, que sobre todos sus bienes le pondrá.
48 Y si aquel esclavo malo dijere en su corazón: Mi señor se tarda en venir;
49 y comenzare a herir a sus conesclavos, y aun a comer y a beber con los borrachos,
50 vendrá el señor de aquel esclavo en el día que no espera, y a la hora que no sabe,
51 y le cortará por medio, y pondrá su parte con los hipócritas; allí será el lloro y el crujir de dientes.

The temple’s fate
24 Now Jesus left the temple and was going away. His disciples came to point out to him the temple buildings. 2 He responded, “Do you see all these things? I assure that no stone will be left on another. Everything will be demolished.”
Beginning of troubles
3 Now while Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately and said, “Tell us, when will these things happen? What will be the sign of your coming and the end of the age?”
4 Jesus replied, “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I’m the Christ.’ They will deceive many people. 6 You will hear about wars and reports of wars. Don’t be alarmed. These things must happen, but this isn’t the end yet. 7 Nations and kingdoms will fight against each other, and there will be famines and earthquakes in all sorts of places. 8 But all these things are just the beginning of the sufferings associated with the end. 9 They will arrest you, abuse you, and they will kill you. All nations will hate you on account of my name. 10 At that time many will fall away. They will betray each other and hate each other. 11 Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because disobedience will expand, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be delivered. 14 This gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the world as a testimony to all the nations. Then the end will come.
The great suffering
15 “When you see the disgusting and destructive thing that Daniel talked about standing in the holy place (the reader should understand this), 16 then those in Judea must escape to the mountains. 17 Those on the roof shouldn’t come down to grab things from their houses. 18 Those in the field shouldn’t come back to grab their clothes. 19 How terrible it will be at that time for women who are pregnant and for women who are nursing their children. 20 Pray that it doesn’t happen in winter or on the Sabbath day. 21 There will be great suffering such as the world has never before seen and will never again see. 22 If that time weren’t shortened, nobody would be rescued. But for the sake of the ones whom God chose, that time will be cut short.
23 “Then if somebody says to you, ‘Look, here’s the Christ,’ or ‘He’s over here,’ don’t believe it. 24 False christs and false prophets will appear, and they will offer great signs and wonders in order to deceive, if possible, even those whom God has chosen. 25 Look, I’ve told you ahead of time. 26 So if they say to you, ‘Look, he’s in the desert,’ don’t go out. And if they say, ‘Look, he’s in the rooms deep inside the house,’ don’t believe it. 27 Just as the lightning flashes from the east to the west, so it will be with the coming of the Human One.[a] 28 The vultures gather wherever there’s a dead body.
Coming of the Human One
29 “Now immediately after the suffering of that time the sun will become dark, and the moon won’t give its light. The stars will fall from the sky and the planets and other heavenly bodies will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Human One[b] will appear in the sky. At that time all the tribes of the earth will be full of sadness, and they will see the Human One[c] coming in the heavenly clouds[d] with power and great splendor. 31 He will send his angels with the sound of a great trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from the four corners of the earth, from one end of the sky to the other.
A lesson from the fig tree
32 “Learn this parable from the fig tree. After its branch becomes tender and it sprouts new leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 In the same way, when you see all these things, you know that the Human One[e] is near, at the door. 34 I assure you that this generation won’t pass away until all these things happen. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will certainly not pass away.
Day and hour
36 “But nobody knows when that day or hour will come, not the heavenly angels and not the Son. Only the Father knows. 37 As it was in the time of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Human One.[f] 38 In those days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark. 39 They didn’t know what was happening until the flood came and swept them all away. The coming of the Human One[g] will be like that. 40 At that time there will be two men in the field. One will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill. One will be taken and the other left. 42 Therefore, stay alert! You don’t know what day the Lord is coming. 43 But you understand that if the head of the house knew at what time the thief would come, he would keep alert and wouldn’t allow the thief to break into his house. 44 Therefore, you also should be prepared, because the Human One[h] will come at a time you don’t know.
Faithful and unfaithful servants
45 “Who then are the faithful and wise servants whom their master puts in charge of giving food at the right time to those who live in his house? 46 Happy are those servants whom the master finds fulfilling their responsibilities when he comes. 47 I assure you that he will put them in charge of all his possessions. 48 But suppose those bad servants should say to themselves, My master won’t come until later. 49 And suppose they began to beat their fellow servants and to eat and drink with the drunks? 50 The master of those servants will come on a day when they are not expecting him, at a time they couldn’t predict. 51 He will cut them in pieces and put them in a place with the hypocrites. People there will be weeping and grinding their teeth.
