La visita de los sabios del Oriente
2 Jesús nació en Belén, un pueblo de la región de Judea, en el tiempo en que Herodes era rey del país. Llegaron por entonces a Jerusalén unos sabios del Oriente que se dedicaban al estudio de las estrellas, 2 y preguntaron:
—¿Dónde está el rey de los judíos que ha nacido? Pues vimos salir su estrella y hemos venido a adorarlo.
3 El rey Herodes se inquietó mucho al oír esto, y lo mismo les pasó a todos los habitantes de Jerusalén. 4 Mandó el rey llamar a todos los jefes de los sacerdotes y a los maestros de la ley, y les preguntó dónde había de nacer el Mesías. 5 Ellos le dijeron:
—En Belén de Judea; porque así lo escribió el profeta:
6 “En cuanto a ti, Belén, de la tierra de Judá,
no eres la más pequeña
entre las principales ciudades de esa tierra;
porque de ti saldrá un gobernante
que guiará a mi pueblo Israel.”
7 Entonces Herodes llamó en secreto a los sabios, y se informó por ellos del tiempo exacto en que había aparecido la estrella. 8 Luego los mandó a Belén, y les dijo:
—Vayan allá, y averigüen todo lo que puedan acerca de ese niño; y cuando lo encuentren, avísenme, para que yo también vaya a rendirle homenaje.
9 Con estas indicaciones del rey, los sabios se fueron. Y la estrella que habían visto salir iba delante de ellos, hasta que por fin se detuvo sobre el lugar donde estaba el niño. 10 Cuando los sabios vieron la estrella, se alegraron mucho. 11 Luego entraron en la casa, y vieron al niño con María, su madre; y arrodillándose le rindieron homenaje. Abrieron sus cofres y le ofrecieron oro, incienso y mirra. 12 Después, advertidos en sueños de que no debían volver a donde estaba Herodes, regresaron a su tierra por otro camino.
La huida a Egipto
13 Cuando ya los sabios se habían ido, un ángel del Señor se le apareció en sueños a José, y le dijo: «Levántate, toma al niño y a su madre, y huye a Egipto. Quédate allí hasta que yo te avise, porque Herodes va a buscar al niño para matarlo.»
14 José se levantó, tomó al niño y a su madre, y salió con ellos de noche camino de Egipto, 15 donde estuvieron hasta que murió Herodes. Esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que el Señor había dicho por medio del profeta: «De Egipto llamé a mi Hijo.»
Herodes manda matar a los niños
16 Al darse cuenta Herodes de que aquellos sabios lo habían engañado, se llenó de ira y mandó matar a todos los niños de dos años para abajo que vivían en Belén y sus alrededores, de acuerdo con el tiempo que le habían dicho los sabios. 17 Así se cumplió lo escrito por el profeta Jeremías:
18 «Se oyó una voz en Ramá,
llantos y grandes lamentos.
Era Raquel, que lloraba por sus hijos
y no quería ser consolada
porque ya estaban muertos.»
La familia se establece en Nazaret
19 Pero después que murió Herodes, un ángel del Señor se le apareció en sueños a José, en Egipto, y le dijo: 20 «Levántate, toma contigo al niño y a su madre, y regresa a Israel, porque ya han muerto los que querían matar al niño.»
21 Entonces José se levantó y llevó al niño y a su madre a Israel. 22 Pero cuando supo que Arquelao estaba gobernando en Judea en lugar de su padre Herodes, tuvo miedo de ir allá; y habiendo sido advertido en sueños por Dios, se dirigió a la región de Galilea. 23 Al llegar, se fue a vivir al pueblo de Nazaret. Esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que dijeron los profetas: que Jesús sería llamado nazareno.

Visita de los sabios
2 Después de nacer Jesús(A) en Belén de Judea, en tiempos[a] del rey Herodes(B), unos sabios[b][c] del oriente llegaron a Jerusalén, preguntando: 2 «¿Dónde está el Rey de los judíos(C) que ha nacido? Porque vimos Su estrella en el oriente(D) y lo hemos venido a adorar». 3 Cuando lo oyó el rey Herodes, se turbó, y toda Jerusalén con él. 4 Entonces, el rey reunió a todos los principales sacerdotes y escribas del pueblo, y averiguó de ellos dónde había de nacer el Cristo. 5 Y ellos le dijeron: «En Belén de Judea(E), porque así está escrito por el[d] profeta:
6 “Y tú, Belén(F), tierra de Judá,
De ningún modo eres la más pequeña entre los príncipes de Judá;
Porque de ti saldrá un Gobernante
Que pastoreará(G) a Mi pueblo Israel”».
7 Entonces Herodes llamó a los sabios en secreto y de ellos determinó el tiempo exacto en que había aparecido la estrella(H). 8 Y enviándolos a Belén, dijo: «Vayan y busquen con diligencia al Niño; y cuando lo encuentren, avísenme para que yo también vaya y lo adore».
9 Después de oír al rey, los sabios se fueron; y la estrella que habían visto en el oriente iba delante de ellos, hasta que llegó y se detuvo sobre el lugar donde estaba el Niño. 10 Cuando vieron la estrella, se regocijaron mucho con gran alegría. 11 Entrando en la casa, vieron al Niño con Su madre María(I), y postrándose lo adoraron(J); y abriendo sus tesoros le presentaron obsequios de oro, incienso y mirra. 12 Y habiendo sido advertidos por Dios en sueños(K) que no volvieran a Herodes, se fueron para su tierra por otro camino.
Huida a Egipto
13 Después de haberse marchado ellos, un[e] ángel del Señor(L) se apareció* a José en sueños, diciendo: «Levántate, toma al Niño y a Su madre y huye a Egipto, y quédate allí hasta que yo te diga; porque Herodes quiere buscar y matar al Niño[f]».
14 Y levantándose José, tomó de noche al Niño y a Su madre, y se trasladó a Egipto; 15 estuvo allá hasta la muerte de Herodes, para que se cumpliera lo que el Señor habló por medio del profeta, diciendo: «De Egipto llamé a Mi Hijo(M)».
La matanza de los niños
16 Herodes, al verse burlado por los sabios, se enfureció en gran manera, y mandó matar a todos los niños que había en Belén y en todos sus alrededores, de dos años para abajo, según el tiempo que había averiguado de los sabios(N). 17 Entonces se cumplió lo que fue dicho por medio del profeta Jeremías, cuando dijo:
18 «Se oyó una voz en Ramá,
Llanto y gran lamentación;
Raquel que llora a sus hijos,
Y que no quiso ser consolada
Porque ya no existen(O)».
Regreso a Nazaret
19 Pero cuando murió Herodes, un ángel del Señor se apareció* en sueños(P) a José en Egipto, diciéndole: 20 «Levántate, toma al Niño y a Su madre y vete a la tierra de Israel, porque los que atentaban contra[g] la vida del Niño han muerto».
21 Y levantándose, José tomó al Niño y a Su madre, y vino a la tierra de Israel. 22 Pero cuando oyó que Arquelao reinaba sobre Judea en lugar de su padre Herodes, tuvo miedo de ir allá; y advertido por Dios en sueños(Q), se fue para la región de Galilea. 23 Cuando llegó, vivió en una ciudad llamada Nazaret(R), para que se cumpliera lo que fue dicho por medio de los profetas: «Él será llamado Nazareno(S)».

The Magi Visit the Messiah
2 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea,(A) during the time of King Herod,(B) Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?(C) We saw his star(D) when it rose and have come to worship him.”
3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem(E) in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:
6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’[b]”(F)
7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”
9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.(G) Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts(H) of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned(I) in a dream(J) not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
The Escape to Egypt
13 When they had gone, an angel(K) of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream.(L) “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”(M)
14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled(N) what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”[c](O)
16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. 17 Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:(P)
18 “A voice is heard in Ramah,
weeping and great mourning,
Rachel(Q) weeping for her children
and refusing to be comforted,
because they are no more.”[d](R)
The Return to Nazareth
19 After Herod died, an angel(S) of the Lord appeared in a dream(T) to Joseph in Egypt 20 and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.”(U)
21 So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream,(V) he withdrew to the district of Galilee,(W) 23 and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth.(X) So was fulfilled(Y) what was said through the prophets, that he would be called a Nazarene.(Z)

2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.
19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.
21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:
23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

2 Pagkatapos na maipanganak si Jesus sa Bethlehem ng Juda, sa panahon ng paghahari ni Herodes, may dumating sa Jerusalem mula sa silangan, na mga lalaking pantas sa pag-aaral ng mga bituin.
2 Sinabi nila: Saan naroroon ang ipinanganak na Hari ng mga Judio? Ito ay sapagkat nakita namin ang kaniyang bituin sa silangan at naparito kami upang sambahin siya.
3 Nang marinig ni haring Herodes ang mga bagay na ito, naligalig siya at ang lahat ng mga tao sa Jerusalem. 4 Tinipon niya ang lahat ng mga pinunong-saserdote at mga guro ng kautusan ng mga tao. Tinanong niya sa kanila kung saan ipanganganak ang Mesiyas. 5 Sinabi nila sa kaniya: Sa Bethlehem ng Judea sapagkat ganito ang isinulat ng propeta:

7 Nang magkagayon, tinawag ni Herodes nang palihim ang mga pantas na lalaki. Itinanong niyang mabuti sa kanila kung kailan nagpakita ang bituin. 8 At pinapunta niya sila sa Bethlehem. Sinabi niya: Pumaroon kayo at matiyaga ninyong ipagtanong ang patungkol sa bata. Kapag natagpuan ninyo siya, balitaan ninyo ako upang makapunta rin ako at sambahin siya.
9 Pagkarinig nila sa hari ay tumuloy na sila sa kanilang lakad. Narito, ang bituin na kanilang nakita sa silanganan ay nanguna sa kanila. Nanguna ito sa kanila hanggang sa sumapit at tumigil sa tapat ng kinaroroonan ng maliit na bata. 10 Nang makita nila ang bituin, lubos silang nagalak. 11 Nang sila ay nasa loob na ng bahay, nakita nila ang bata, kasama ang kaniyang inang si Maria. Sila ay nagpatirapa at sinamba ang bata. Nang mabuksan na nila ang kanilang mga kayamanan, naghandog sila sa kaniya ng mga kaloob. Ang mga ito ay ginto, kamangyan at mira. 12 At nagbabala ang Diyos sa kanila sa isang panaginip na huwag na silang bumalik kay Herodes. Kaya sila ay nag-iba ng daan pauwi sa kanilang sariling lupain.
Tumakas Sila Papuntang Egipto
13 Nang sila ay nakauwi na, nangyari na ang isang anghel ng Panginoon ay nagpakita kay Jose sa isang panaginip. Sinabi ng anghel: Bumangon ka, dalhin mo ang bata at ang kaniyang ina. Tumakas kayo papuntang Egipto sapagkat ipahahanap na ni Herodes ang bata upang patayin. Manatili kayo roon hanggang sa sabihin ko sa iyo.
14 Bumangon siya at sa kinagabihan, dinala niya ang bata at ang ina nito papuntang Egipto. 15 Nanatili sila roon hanggang sa pagkamatay ni Herodes. Ito ay upang matupad ang sinabi ng Panginoon sa pamamagitan ng propeta, na nagsasabi: Tinawag ko ang aking anak mula sa Egipto.
16 Nang magkagayon, nakita ni Herodes na nalinlang siya ng mga lalaking pantas. Labis siyang nagalit at nag-utos siya na patayin ang lahat ng mga batang lalaki sa Bethlehem at sa buong palibot nito. Ang mga batang ipinapatay ay mula sa gulang na dalawang taon pababa, batay sa panahon na maingat niyang tinanong sa mga lalaking pantas. 17 Nang magkagayon, natupad ang sinabi ng propetang Jeremias, na sinasabi:
18 Isang tinig ang narinig sa Rama. Panaghoy, pananangis at pagdadalamhati. Tinatangisan ni Rachel ang kaniyang mga anak. Hindi niya ibig na maaliw sapagkat sila ay wala na.
Bumalik Sila Mula sa Egipto
19 Ngunit nang patay na si Herodes, narito, isang anghel ng Panginoon ay nagpakita kay Jose sa Egipto sa isang panaginip.
20 Sinabi niya: Bumangon ka at dalhin mo ang bata at ang kaniyang ina at pumaroon kayo sa lupain ng Israel sapagkat patay na silang naghahangad sa buhay ng bata.
21 Bumangon siya at dinala ang bata at ang ina nito at dumating sa lupain ng Israel. 22 Si Arquelao ang naghahari sa Judea bilang kapalit ng kaniyang amang si Herodes. Nang mabalitaan ito ni Jose, natakot siyang pumunta roon. Sa isang panaginip binigyan siya ng Diyos ng babala. Umalis siya patungo sa mga dako ng Galilea. 23 Siya ay dumating at tumira sa isang lungsod na tinatawag na Nazaret. Sa ganito natupad ang sinabi ng mga propeta:
Siya ay tatawaging taga-Nazaret.
