19 Nangyari, na nang matapos na ni Jesus ang mga pananalitang ito, nilisan niya ang Galilea at pumaroon siya sa mga hangganan ng Judea sa kabilang ibayo ng Jordan.

Sinabi ni Jesus: Huwag kang papatay. Huwag kang mangalunya. Huwag kang magnakaw at huwag kang sasaksi sa hindi totoo.
19 Igalang mo ang iyong ama at ina. Ibigin mo ang iyong kapwa katulad ng iyong sarili.
20 Sinabi ng binata sa kaniya: Ang lahat ng mga bagay na ito ay nasunod ko na simula pa sa aking pagkabata. Ano pa ang kulang sa akin?
21 Sinabi ni Jesus sa kaniya: Kung ibig mong maging ganap, humayo ka, ipagbili mo ang iyong tinatangkilik, at ibigay mo sa mga dukha at magkakaroon ka ng kayamanan sa langit. Pagkatapos, halika at sumunod sa akin.

19 Now when[a] Jesus finished these sayings, he left Galilee and went to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan River.[b] 2 Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.
3 Then some Pharisees[c] came to him in order to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful[d] to divorce a wife for any cause?”[e] 4 He answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female,[f] 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?[g] 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” he asked. Jesus was now in the jurisdiction of Herod Antipas (i.e., Judea and beyond the Jordan) and it is likely that the Pharisees were hoping he might answer the question of divorce in a way similar to John the Baptist and so suffer the same fate as John, i.e., death at the hands of Herod (cf. 14:1-12). Jesus answered the question not on the basis of rabbinic custom and the debate over Deut 24:1, but rather from the account of creation and God’s original design.

Matthew consistently portrays “eternal life” as something a person enters in the world to come, whereas the Gospel of John sees “eternal life” as beginning in the present and continuing into the future (cf. John 5:24).

16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life(O)?”(P)
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”(Q)
18 “Which ones?” he inquired.
Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery,(R) you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’[c](S) and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]”(T)
20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect,(U) go, sell your possessions and give to the poor,(V) and you will have treasure in heaven.(W) Then come, follow me.”
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich(X) to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”
26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”(Y)
27 Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you!(Z) What then will there be for us?”
28 Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne,(AA) you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.(AB) 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[e] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.(AC) 30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.(AD)
