Discusión acerca del divorcio y del matrimonio
19 Cuando Jesús terminó de decir esas cosas, salió de Galilea y descendió a la región de Judea, al oriente del río Jordán. 2 Grandes multitudes lo siguieron, y él sanó a los enfermos.
3 Unos fariseos se acercaron y trataron de tenderle una trampa con la siguiente pregunta:
—¿Se permite que un hombre se divorcie de su esposa por cualquier motivo?
4 Jesús respondió:
—¿No han leído las Escrituras? Allí está escrito que, desde el principio, “Dios los hizo hombre y mujer”[a] . 5 —Y agregó—: “Esto explica por qué el hombre deja a su padre y a su madre, y se une a su esposa, y los dos se convierten en uno solo”[b]. 6 Como ya no son dos sino uno, que nadie separe lo que Dios ha unido.
7 —Entonces—preguntaron—, ¿por qué dice Moisés en la ley que un hombre podría darle a su esposa un aviso de divorcio por escrito y despedirla?[c]
8 Jesús contestó:
—Moisés permitió el divorcio solo como una concesión ante la dureza del corazón de ustedes, pero no fue la intención original de Dios. 9 Y les digo lo siguiente: el que se divorcia de su esposa y se casa con otra comete adulterio, a menos que la esposa le haya sido infiel.[d]
10 Entonces los discípulos le dijeron:
—Si así son las cosas, ¡será mejor no casarse!
11 —No todos pueden aceptar esta palabra—dijo Jesús—. Solo aquellos que reciben la ayuda de Dios. 12 Algunos nacen como eunucos, a otros los hacen eunucos, y otros optan por no casarse[e] por amor al reino del cielo. El que pueda, que lo acepte.
Jesús bendice a los niños
13 Cierto día, algunos padres llevaron a sus niños a Jesús para que pusiera sus manos sobre ellos y orara por ellos. Pero los discípulos regañaron a los padres por molestar a Jesús.
14 Pero Jesús les dijo: «Dejen que los niños vengan a mí. ¡No los detengan! Pues el reino del cielo pertenece a los que son como estos niños». 15 Entonces les puso las manos sobre la cabeza y los bendijo antes de irse.
El hombre rico
16 Alguien se acercó a Jesús con la siguiente pregunta:
—Maestro,[f] ¿qué buena acción tengo que hacer para tener la vida eterna?
17 —¿Por qué me preguntas a mí sobre lo que es bueno?—respondió Jesús—. Solo hay Uno que es bueno; pero para contestar a tu pregunta, si deseas recibir la vida eterna, cumple[g] los mandamientos.
18 —¿Cuáles?—preguntó el hombre.
Y Jesús le contestó:
—“No cometas asesinato; no cometas adulterio; no robes; no des falso testimonio; 19 honra a tu padre y a tu madre; ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo”[h].
20 —He obedecido todos esos mandamientos—respondió el joven—. ¿Qué más debo hacer?
21 Jesús le dijo:
—Si deseas ser perfecto, anda, vende todas tus posesiones y entrega el dinero a los pobres, y tendrás tesoro en el cielo. Después ven y sígueme.
22 Cuando el joven escuchó lo que Jesús le dijo, se fue triste porque tenía muchas posesiones.
23 Entonces Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: «Les digo la verdad, es muy difícil que una persona rica entre en el reino del cielo. 24 Lo repito: es más fácil que un camello pase por el ojo de una aguja que un rico entre en el reino de Dios».
25 Los discípulos quedaron atónitos.
—Entonces, ¿quién podrá ser salvo?—preguntaron.
26 Jesús los miró y les dijo:
—Humanamente hablando es imposible, pero para Dios todo es posible.
27 Entonces Pedro le dijo:
—Nosotros hemos dejado todo para seguirte. ¿Qué recibiremos a cambio?
28 Jesús contestó:
—Les aseguro que cuando el mundo se renueve[i] y el Hijo del Hombre[j] se siente sobre su trono glorioso, ustedes que han sido mis seguidores también se sentarán en doce tronos para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel. 29 Y todo el que haya dejado casas o hermanos o hermanas o padre o madre o hijos o bienes por mi causa recibirá cien veces más a cambio y heredará la vida eterna. 30 Pero muchos que ahora son los más importantes en ese día serán los menos importantes, y aquellos que ahora parecen menos importantes en ese día serán los más importantes.[k]

19 When Yeshua had finished talking about these things, he left the Galil and traveled down the east side of the Yarden River until he passed the border of Y’hudah. 2 Great crowds followed him, and he healed them there.
3 Some P’rushim came and tried to trap him by asking, “Is it permitted for a man to divorce his wife on any ground whatever?” 4 He replied, “Haven’t you read that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female,[a] 5 and that he said, ‘For this reason a man should leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two are to become one flesh’?[b] 6 Thus they are no longer two, but one. So then, no one should split apart what God has joined together.”
7 They said to him, “Then why did Moshe give the commandment that a man should hand his wife a get and divorce her?”[c] 8 He answered, “Moshe allowed you to divorce your wives because your hearts are so hardened. But this is not how it was at the beginning. 9 Now what I say to you is that whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery!”
10 The talmidim said to him, “If that is how things are between husband and wife, it would be better not to marry!” 11 He said to them, “Not everyone grasps this teaching, only those for whom it is meant. 12 For there are different reasons why men do not marry — some because they were born without the desire, some because they have been castrated, and some because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whoever can grasp this, let him do so.”
13 Then children were brought to him so that he might lay his hands on them and pray for them, but the talmidim rebuked the people bringing them. 14 However, Yeshua said, “Let the children come to me, don’t stop them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.” 15 Then, after laying his hands on them, he went on his way.
16 A man approached Yeshua and said, “Rabbi, what good thing should I do in order to have eternal life?” He said to him, 17 “Why are you asking me about good? There is One who is good! But if you want to obtain eternal life, observe the mitzvot.” 18 The man asked him, “Which ones?” and Yeshua said, “Don’t murder, don’t commit adultery, don’t steal, don’t give false testimony [d] 19 honor father and mother [e] and love your neighbor as yourself.”[f] 20 The young man said to him, “I have kept all these; where do I still fall short?” 21 Yeshua said to him, “If you are serious about reaching the goal, go and sell your possessions, give to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven. Then come, follow me!” 22 But when the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he was wealthy.
23 Then Yeshua said to his talmidim, “Yes. I tell you that it will be very hard for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. 24 Furthermore, I tell you that it is easier for a camel to pass through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God.” 25 When the talmidim heard this they were utterly amazed. “Then who,” they asked, “can be saved?” 26 Yeshua looked at them and said, “Humanly, this is impossible; but with God everything is possible.” 27 Kefa replied, “Look, we have left everything and followed you. So what will we have?” 28 Yeshua said to them, “Yes. I tell you that in the regenerated world, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones and judge the twelve tribes of Isra’el. 29 Everyone who has left houses, brothers, sisters, father, mother, children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times more, and he will obtain eternal life. 30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.

19 Now when Jesus had finished saying these things, He left Galilee and went into the part of Judea that is beyond the Jordan;
2 And great throngs accompanied Him, and He cured them there.
3 And Pharisees came to Him and put Him to the test by asking, Is it lawful and right to dismiss and repudiate and divorce one’s wife for any and [a]every cause?
4 He replied, Have you never read that He Who made them from the beginning made them male and female,
5 And said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be united firmly (joined inseparably) to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh?(A)
6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder (separate).
7 They said to Him, Why then did Moses command [us] to give a certificate of divorce and thus to dismiss and repudiate a wife?(B)
8 He said to them, Because of the hardness (stubbornness and perversity) of your hearts Moses permitted you to dismiss and repudiate and divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been [b]so [ordained].
9 I say to you: whoever dismisses (repudiates, divorces) his wife, except for unchastity, and marries another commits adultery, [c]and he who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
10 The disciples said to Him, If the case of a man with his wife is like this, it is neither profitable nor advisable to marry.
11 But He said to them, Not all men can accept this saying, but it is for those to whom [the capacity to receive] it has been given.
12 For there are eunuchs who have been born incapable of marriage; and there are eunuchs who have been made so by men; and there are eunuchs who have made themselves incapable of marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let him who is able to accept this accept it.
13 Then little children were brought to Jesus, that He might put His hands on them and pray; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them.
14 But He said, Leave the children alone! Allow the little ones to come to Me, and do not forbid or restrain or hinder them, for of such [as these] is the kingdom of heaven composed.
15 And He put His hands upon them, and then went on His way.
16 And behold, there came a man up to Him, saying, Teacher, what excellent and perfectly and essentially good deed must I do to possess eternal life?(C)
17 And He said to him, Why do you ask Me about the perfectly and essentially good? There is only One Who is good [perfectly and essentially]—God. If you would enter into the Life, you must continually keep the commandments.
18 He said to Him, What [d]sort of commandments? [Or, which ones?] And Jesus answered, You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness,(D)
19 Honor your father and your mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself.(E)
20 The young man said, I have observed all these from my youth; what still do I lack?
21 Jesus answered him, If you would be perfect [that is, [e]have that spiritual maturity which accompanies self-sacrificing character], go and sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; and come, [f]be My disciple [side with My party and follow Me].
22 But when the young man heard this, he went away sad (grieved and in much distress), for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus said to His disciples, Truly I say to you, it will be difficult for a rich man to get into the kingdom of heaven.
24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go into the kingdom of heaven.
25 When the disciples heard this, they were utterly puzzled (astonished, bewildered), saying, Who then can be saved [[g]from eternal death]?
26 But Jesus looked at them and said, With men this is impossible, but all things are possible with God.(F)
27 Then Peter answered Him, saying, Behold, we have left [our] all and have become [h]Your disciples [sided with Your party and followed You]. What then shall we receive?
28 Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, in the new age [the [i]Messianic rebirth of the world], when the Son of Man shall sit down on the throne of His glory, you who have [become My disciples, sided with My party and] followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones and judge the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 And anyone and everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for My name’s sake will receive [j]many [even a hundred] times more and will inherit eternal life.
30 But many who [now] are first will be last [then], and many who [now] are last will be first [then].
