El más importante en el Reino (Mc 9,33-37; Lc 9,46-48)
18 En aquella ocasión, los discípulos se acercaron a Jesús y le preguntaron:
— ¿Quién es el más importante en el reino de los cielos?
2 Jesús llamó a un niño y, poniéndolo en medio de ellos, 3 dijo:
— Os aseguro que, si no cambiáis de conducta y volvéis a ser como niños, no entraréis en el reino de los cielos. 4 El más importante en el reino de los cielos es aquel que se vuelve pequeño como este niño. 5 Y el que recibe en mi nombre a un niño como este, a mí me recibe.
Los que inducen al pecado (Mc 9,42-48; Lc 17,1-2)
6 Pero a quien sea causa de pecado para uno de estos pequeños que creen en mí, más le valdría que lo arrojaran al fondo del mar con una piedra de molino atada al cuello. 7 ¡Ay del mundo a causa de los que incitan al pecado! Porque instigadores de pecado tiene que haberlos necesariamente; pero ¡ay de aquel que incite a pecar!
8 Si, pues, tu mano o tu pie van a ser causa de que caigas en pecado, córtatelos y arrójalos lejos de ti, porque es mejor que entres manco o cojo en la vida eterna que con tus dos manos y tus dos pies seas arrojado al fuego eterno. 9 Y si tu ojo va a ser causa de que caigas en pecado, sácatelo y arrójalo lejos de ti, porque es mejor que entres tuerto en la vida eterna que con tus dos ojos seas arrojado al fuego de la gehena.
10 Guardaos, pues, de despreciar a alguno de estos pequeños, porque os aseguro que en el cielo sus ángeles están siempre en presencia de mi Padre celestial. 11 [Y es que el Hijo del hombre ha venido a salvar lo que estaba perdido].
Parábola de la oveja perdida (Lc 15,3-7)
12 ¿Qué os parece? Si un hombre tiene cien ovejas y se le extravía una de ellas, ¿no dejará las otras noventa y nueve en el monte e irá en busca de la extraviada? 13 Y, si logra encontrarla, os aseguro que sentirá más alegría por ella que por las noventa y nueve que no se habían extraviado. 14 De la misma manera, vuestro Padre que está en el cielo no quiere que se pierda ni uno solo de estos pequeños.
La corrección fraterna (Lc 17,3)
15 Si alguna vez tu hermano te ofende, ve a buscarlo y habla a solas con él para hacerle ver su falta. Si te escucha, ya te lo has ganado. 16 Si no quiere escucharte, insiste llevando contigo una o dos personas más, para que el asunto se resuelva en presencia de dos o tres testigos. 17 Si tampoco les hace caso a ellos, manifiéstalo a la comunidad. Y si ni siquiera a la comunidad hace caso, tenlo por pagano o recaudador de impuestos. 18 Os aseguro que todo lo que atéis en la tierra quedará atado en el cielo, y todo lo que desatéis en la tierra quedará desatado en el cielo. 19 Algo os digo también: si dos de vosotros os ponéis de acuerdo, aquí en la tierra, para pedir cualquier cosa, mi Padre que está en el cielo os lo concederá. 20 Pues allí donde dos o tres se reúnen en mi nombre, allí estoy yo en medio de ellos.
Parábola del siervo que no quiso perdonar
21 Pedro, acercándose entonces a Jesús, le preguntó:
— Señor, ¿cuántas veces he de perdonar a mi hermano si me ofende? ¿Hasta siete veces?
22 Jesús le contestó:
— No te digo hasta siete veces, sino hasta setenta veces siete.
23 Y es que el reino de los cielos puede compararse a un rey que quiso hacer cuentas con la gente que tenía a su servicio. 24 Para empezar, se le presentó uno que le debía diez mil talentos. 25 Y como no tenía posibilidades de saldar su deuda, el amo mandó que los vendieran como esclavos a él, a su esposa y a sus hijos junto con todas sus propiedades, para que así saldara la deuda. 26 El siervo cayó entonces de rodillas delante de su amo, suplicándole: “Ten paciencia conmigo, que yo te lo pagaré todo”. 27 El amo tuvo compasión de su siervo; le perdonó la deuda y lo dejó ir libremente.
28 Pero, al salir, aquel siervo se encontró con uno de sus compañeros, que le debía cien denarios. Lo sujetó violentamente por el cuello y le dijo: “¡Págame lo que me debes!”. 29 Su compañero se arrodilló delante de él, suplicándole: “Ten paciencia conmigo, que yo te lo pagaré”. 30 Pero el otro no quiso escucharlo, sino que fue y lo hizo meter en la cárcel hasta que liquidara la deuda. 31 Los demás siervos, al ver todo esto, se sintieron consternados y fueron a contarle al amo lo que había sucedido. 32 Entonces el amo hizo llamar a aquel siervo y le dijo: “Siervo malvado, yo te perdoné toda aquella deuda porque me lo suplicaste; 33 en cambio tú no has querido compadecerte de tu compañero como yo me compadecí de ti”. 34 Y, encolerizado, el amo ordenó que fuera torturado hasta que toda la deuda quedara saldada. 35 Esto mismo hará mi Padre celestial con aquel de vosotros que no perdone de corazón a su hermano.

Who Is the Greatest?
18 (A)At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them 3 and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you (B)turn and (C)become like children, you (D)will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 (E)Whoever humbles himself like this child is the (F)greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 (G)“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, 6 but (H)whoever causes one of these (I)little ones who believe in me to sin,[a] it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
Temptations to Sin
7 “Woe to the world for (J)temptations to sin![b] (K)For it is necessary that temptations come, (L)but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes! 8 (M)And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into (N)the eternal fire. 9 (O)And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the (P)hell[c] of fire.
The Parable of the Lost Sheep
10 “See that you do not despise (Q)one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven (R)their angels always (S)see the face of my Father who is in heaven.[d] 12 (T)What do you think? (U)If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? 13 And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. 14 So (V)it is not the will of my[e] Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
If Your Brother Sins Against You
15 (W)“If your brother sins against you, (X)go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have (Y)gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established (Z)by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, (AA)tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, (AB)let him be to you as (AC)a Gentile and (AD)a tax collector. 18 Truly, I say to you, (AE)whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed[f] in heaven. 19 Again I say to you, if two of you (AF)agree on earth about anything they ask, (AG)it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are (AH)gathered in my name, (AI)there am I among them.”
The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant
21 Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often (AJ)will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? (AK)As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.[g]
23 “Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished (AL)to settle accounts with his servants.[h] 24 When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him (AM)ten thousand (AN)talents.[i] 25 (AO)And since he could not pay, his master ordered him (AP)to be sold, with his wife and (AQ)children and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 So the servant[j] (AR)fell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.’ 27 And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and (AS)forgave him the debt. 28 But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred (AT)denarii,[k] and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’ 29 So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you.’ 30 He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt. 31 When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place. 32 Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. 33 (AU)And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ 34 (AV)And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers,[l] (AW)until he should pay all his debt. 35 (AX)So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother (AY)from your heart.”

18 At that time the disciples came up and asked Jesus, Who then is [really] the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
2 And He called a little child to Himself and put him in the midst of them,
3 And said, Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and become like little children [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving], you can never enter the kingdom of heaven [at all].
4 Whoever will humble himself therefore and become like this little child [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving] is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 And whoever receives and accepts and welcomes one little child like this for My sake and in My name receives and accepts and welcomes Me.
6 But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in and [a]acknowledge and cleave to Me to stumble and sin [that is, who entices him or hinders him in right conduct or thought], it would be better ([b]more expedient and profitable or advantageous) for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be sunk in the depth of the sea.
7 Woe to the world for such temptations to sin and influences to do wrong! It is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the person on whose account or by whom the temptation comes!
8 And if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble and sin, cut it off and throw it away from you; it is better (more profitable and wholesome) for you to enter life maimed or lame than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into everlasting fire.
9 And if your eye causes you to stumble and sin, pluck it out and throw it away from you; it is better (more profitable and wholesome) for you to enter life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the hell (Gehenna) of fire.
10 Beware that you do not despise or feel scornful toward or think little of one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always are in the presence of and look upon the face of My Father Who is in heaven.
11 [c]For the Son of man came to save [[d]from the penalty of eternal death] that which was lost.
12 What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray and gets lost, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountain and go in search of the one that is lost?
13 And if it should be that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not get lost.
14 Just so it is not the will of My Father Who is in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost and perish.
15 If your brother wrongs you, go and show him his fault, between you and him privately. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother.
16 But if he does not listen, take along with you one or two others, so that every word may be confirmed and upheld by the testimony of two or three witnesses.
17 If he pays no attention to them [refusing to listen and obey], tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a pagan and a tax collector.(A)
18 Truly I tell you, whatever you forbid and declare to be improper and unlawful on earth must be [e]what is already forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit and declare proper and lawful on earth must be [f]what is already permitted in heaven.
19 Again I tell you, if two of you on earth agree (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever [anything and [g]everything] they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven.
20 For wherever two or three are gathered (drawn together as My followers) in (into) My name, there I Am in the midst of them.(B)
21 Then Peter came up to Him and said, Lord, how many times may my brother sin against me and I forgive him and [h]let it go? [As many as] up to seven times?
22 Jesus answered him, I tell you, not up to seven times, but seventy times seven!(C)
23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a human king who wished to settle accounts with his attendants.
24 When he began the accounting, one was brought to him who owed him 10,000 talents [probably about $10,000,000],
25 And because he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and his children and everything that he possessed, and payment to be made.
26 So the attendant fell on his knees, begging him, Have patience with me and I will pay you everything.
27 And his master’s heart was moved with compassion, and he released him and forgave him [cancelling] the debt.
28 But that same attendant, as he went out, found one of his fellow attendants who owed him a hundred denarii [about twenty dollars]; and he caught him by the throat and said, Pay what you owe!
29 So his fellow attendant fell down and begged him earnestly, Give me time, and I will pay you all!
30 But he was unwilling, and he went out and had him put in prison till he should pay the debt.
31 When his fellow attendants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed, and they went and told everything that had taken place to their master.
32 Then his master called him and said to him, You contemptible and wicked attendant! I forgave and cancelled all that [great] debt of yours because you begged me to.
33 And should you not have had pity and mercy on your fellow attendant, as I had pity and mercy on you?
34 And in wrath his master turned him over to the torturers (the jailers), till he should pay all that he owed.
35 So also My heavenly Father will deal with every one of you if you do not freely forgive your brother from your heart his offenses.
