La cuestión de las tradiciones (Mc 7,1-23)
15 Se acercaron a Jesús unos fariseos y maestros de la ley que procedían de Jerusalén, y le preguntaron:
2 — ¿Por qué tus discípulos violan la tradición de nuestros antepasados? ¿Por qué no se lavan las manos cuando van a comer?
3 Jesús les respondió:
— ¿Y por qué ustedes violan lo que Dios ha mandado por seguir sus propias tradiciones? 4 Porque Dios ha dicho: Honra a tu padre y a tu madre; y también: El que maldiga a su padre o a su madre será condenado a muerte. 5 En cambio, ustedes afirman: “Si alguno dice a su padre o a su madre: ‘Lo que tenía reservado para ayudarte lo he convertido en ofrenda para el Templo’, 6 queda liberado de la obligación de prestarles ayuda”. De este modo, con la propia tradición de ustedes anulan lo que Dios había dispuesto. 7 ¡Hipócritas! Bien profetizó Isaías acerca de ustedes cuando dijo:
8 Este pueblo me honra de labios afuera,
pero su corazón está muy lejos de mí.
9 Inútilmente me rinden culto,
pues enseñan doctrinas
que sólo son preceptos humanos.
10 Y recabando la atención de la gente, prosiguió:
— Oigan y entiendan esto: 11 lo que hace impura a una persona no es lo que entra por la boca. Lo que verdaderamente la hace impura es lo que sale de la boca.
12 Entonces los discípulos se acercaron a Jesús y le preguntaron:
— ¿Sabes que los fariseos se han sentido ofendidos al oírte?
13 Jesús les contestó:
— Toda planta que no haya plantado mi Padre celestial será arrancada de raíz. 14 Déjenlos, pues son ciegos que guían a otros ciegos. Y si un ciego guía a otro ciego, los dos caerán en el hoyo.
15 Pedro pidió a Jesús:
— Explícanos qué significa lo que has dicho.
16 Jesús contestó:
— ¿Tampoco ustedes son capaces de entenderlo? 17 ¿No comprenden que todo lo que entra por la boca pasa al vientre y va a parar a la letrina? 18 En cambio, lo que sale de la boca procede del corazón, y eso es lo que hace impura a la persona. 19 Porque del corazón proceden las malas intenciones, los asesinatos, los adulterios, las inmoralidades sexuales, los robos, las calumnias y las blasfemias. 20 Todo esto es lo que hace impura a una persona, y no el sentarse a comer sin haberse lavado las manos.
La mujer cananea (Mc 7,24-30)
21 Jesús salió de aquel lugar y se dirigió a la comarca de Tiro y Sidón. 22 En esto, una mujer cananea que vivía por aquellos lugares vino a su encuentro gritando:
— ¡Señor, Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí! Mi hija está poseída por un demonio que la atormenta terriblemente.
23 Como Jesús no le contestaba ni una palabra, los discípulos se acercaron a él y le rogaron:
— Atiéndela, porque no hace más que gritar detrás de nosotros.
24 Jesús entonces dijo:
— Dios me ha enviado solamente a las ovejas perdidas del pueblo de Israel.
25 Pero la mujer, poniéndose de rodillas delante de Jesús, le suplicó:
— ¡Señor, ayúdame!
26 Él le contestó:
— No está bien quitarles el pan a los hijos para echárselo a los perros.
27 Ella dijo:
— Es cierto, Señor; pero también los cachorrillos comen las migajas que caen de la mesa de sus amos.
28 Entonces Jesús le respondió:
— ¡Grande es tu fe, mujer! ¡Que se haga lo que deseas!
Y su hija quedó curada en aquel mismo instante.
Jesús cura a numerosos enfermos
29 Marchando de allí, Jesús se dirigió a la orilla del lago de Galilea. Cuando llegó, subió al monte y se sentó. 30 Se le acercó mucha gente, trayendo consigo cojos, ciegos, tullidos, mudos y otros muchos enfermos. Los pusieron a los pies de Jesús, y él los curó a todos. 31 La gente estaba asombrada al ver que los mudos hablaban, los tullidos recobraban la salud, los cojos andaban y los ciegos veían. Y todos alabaron al Dios de Israel.
Jesús da de comer a más de cuatro mil personas (Mc 8,1-10)
32 Jesús llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo:
— Me da lástima esta gente. Ya hace tres días que están conmigo y no tienen nada que comer. No quiero que se vayan en ayunas, no sea que desfallezcan por el camino.
33 Los discípulos le dijeron:
— ¿No ves que estamos en un lugar apartado? ¿De dónde vamos a sacar suficiente pan para dar de comer a toda esta gente?
34 Jesús les preguntó:
— ¿Cuántos panes tienen?
Ellos contestaron:
— Siete y unos cuantos peces.
35 Jesús dispuso que la gente se sentara en el suelo. 36 Luego tomó los siete panes y los peces, dio gracias a Dios, los partió y se los fue dando a los discípulos y estos se los fueron dando a la gente. 37 Todos comieron hasta quedar satisfechos; y aun así se llenaron siete espuertas con los trozos de pan que sobraron. 38 Los que comieron en aquella ocasión fueron cuatro mil, sin contar las mujeres ni los niños. 39 Luego Jesús despidió a la multitud, subió a la barca y se fue a la región de Magadán.

That Which Defiles(A)
15 Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2 “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!”(B)
3 Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’[a](C) and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[b](D) 5 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’ 6 they are not to ‘honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
8 “‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
9 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.(E)’[c](F)”
10 Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. 11 What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them,(G) but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”(H)
12 Then the disciples came to him and asked, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?”
13 He replied, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted(I) will be pulled up by the roots. 14 Leave them; they are blind guides.[d](J) If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”(K)
15 Peter said, “Explain the parable to us.”(L)
16 “Are you still so dull?”(M) Jesus asked them. 17 “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart,(N) and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.(O) 20 These are what defile a person;(P) but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”
The Faith of a Canaanite Woman(Q)
21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.(R) 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David,(S) have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”(T)
23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”
24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”(U)
25 The woman came and knelt before him.(V) “Lord, help me!” she said.
26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”
28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith!(W) Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.
Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand(X)(Y)(Z)
29 Jesus left there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down. 30 Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them.(AA) 31 The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.(AB)
32 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people;(AC) they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”
33 His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?”
34 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked.
“Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.”
35 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. 36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them(AD) and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. 37 They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.(AE) 38 The number of those who ate was four thousand men, besides women and children. 39 After Jesus had sent the crowd away, he got into the boat and went to the vicinity of Magadan.

Jésus et la tradition religieuse juive(A)
15 A cette époque, des pharisiens et des spécialistes de la Loi vinrent de Jérusalem ; ils abordèrent Jésus pour lui demander : 2 Pourquoi tes disciples ne respectent-ils pas la tradition des ancêtres ? Car ils ne se lavent pas les mains selon le rite usuel avant chaque repas.
3 – Et vous, répliqua-t-il, pourquoi désobéissez-vous au commandement de Dieu pour suivre votre tradition ? 4 En effet, Dieu a dit : Honore ton père et ta mère[a] et Que celui qui maudit son père ou sa mère soit puni de mort[b]. 5 Mais vous, qu’enseignez-vous ? Qu’il suffit de dire à son père ou à sa mère : « Je fais offrande à Dieu d’une part de mes biens avec laquelle j’aurais pu t’assister », 6 pour ne plus rien devoir à son père ou à sa mère. Ainsi vous annulez la Parole de Dieu par votre tradition. 7 Hypocrites ! Esaïe a fort bien prophétisé à votre sujet :
8 Ce peuple m’honore des lèvres,
mais, au fond de son cœur, il est bien loin de moi !
9 Le culte qu’il me rend n’a aucune valeur,
car les enseignements qu’il donne
ne sont que des règles inventées par les hommes[c] .
10 Alors Jésus appela la foule et lui dit : Ecoutez-moi et comprenez-moi bien : 11 Ce qui rend un homme impur, ce n’est pas ce qui entre dans sa bouche, mais c’est ce qui en sort.
12 Alors les disciples s’approchèrent de lui pour lui dire : Sais-tu que les pharisiens ont été très choqués par tes paroles ?
13 Il leur répondit : Toute plante que mon Père céleste n’a pas lui-même plantée sera arrachée. 14 Laissez-les : ce sont des aveugles qui conduisent d’autres aveugles ! Or, si un aveugle en conduit un autre, ils tomberont tous deux dans le fossé.
15 Pierre intervint en disant : Explique-nous cette parabole.
16 – Eh quoi ! répondit Jésus, vous ne comprenez toujours pas, vous aussi ? 17 Ne saisissez-vous pas que tout ce qui entre par la bouche va dans le ventre, puis est évacué par voie naturelle ? 18 Mais ce qui sort de la bouche vient du cœur, et c’est cela qui rend l’homme impur. 19 Car, c’est du cœur que proviennent les mauvaises pensées, les meurtres, les adultères, l’immoralité, le vol, les faux témoignages, les blasphèmes[d]. 20 Voilà ce qui rend l’homme impur. Mais manger sans s’être lavé les mains ne rend pas l’homme impur.
La foi d’une non-Juive(B)
21 En quittant cet endroit, Jésus se rendit dans la région de Tyr et de Sidon.
22 Et voilà qu’une femme cananéenne[e], qui habitait là, vint vers lui et se mit à crier : Seigneur, Fils de David, aie pitié de moi ! Ma fille est sous l’emprise d’un démon qui la tourmente cruellement.
23 Mais Jésus ne lui répondit pas un mot.
Ses disciples s’approchèrent de lui et lui dirent : Renvoie-la[f], car elle ne cesse de nous suivre en criant.
24 Ce à quoi il répondit : Je n’ai été envoyé qu’aux brebis perdues du peuple d’Israël.
25 Mais la femme vint se prosterner devant lui en disant : Seigneur, viens à mon secours !
26 Il lui répondit : Il n’est pas bien de prendre le pain des enfants pour le jeter aux petits chiens.
27 – C’est vrai, Seigneur, reprit-elle, et pourtant les petits chiens mangent les miettes qui tombent de la table de leurs maîtres.
28 Alors Jésus dit : O femme, ta foi est grande ! Qu’il en soit donc comme tu le veux !
Et, sur l’heure, sa fille fut guérie.
Nombreuses guérisons(C)
29 Jésus partit de cette région et retourna au bord du lac de Galilée. Il monta sur une colline où il s’assit. 30 Des foules nombreuses vinrent auprès de lui et, avec elles, des paralysés, des aveugles, des sourds-muets, des estropiés et beaucoup d’autres malades. On les amena aux pieds de Jésus, et il les guérit. 31 La foule s’émerveillait de voir les sourds-muets parler, les estropiés reprendre l’usage de leurs membres, les paralysés marcher, les aveugles recouvrer la vue, et tous se mirent à chanter la gloire du Dieu d’Israël.
Avec sept pains et des poissons(D)
32 Jésus appela ses disciples et leur dit : J’ai pitié de cette foule. Voilà déjà trois jours qu’ils sont restés là, avec moi, et ils n’ont rien à manger. Je ne veux pas les renvoyer à jeun, de peur que les forces leur manquent sur le chemin du retour.
33 Ses disciples lui dirent : Où pourrions-nous trouver, dans ce lieu désert, assez de pains pour nourrir une telle foule ?
34 – Combien de pains avez-vous ?
– Sept, répondirent-ils, et quelques petits poissons.
35 Alors il invita tout le monde à s’asseoir par terre. 36 Il prit ensuite les sept pains et les poissons et, après avoir remercié Dieu, il les partagea et les donna aux disciples, qui les distribuèrent à la foule. 37 Tous mangèrent à satiété. On ramassa sept corbeilles pleines des morceaux qui restaient. 38 Ceux qui furent ainsi nourris étaient au nombre de quatre mille hommes, sans compter les femmes et les enfants.
39 Après avoir congédié la foule, Jésus monta dans un bateau et se rendit dans la région de Magadan.

3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,

17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
29 And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.
30 And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:
31 Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.
32 Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
33 And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?
34 And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.
35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
37 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.
38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.
39 And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.
