Ang Talinghaga tungkol sa Manghahasik(A)
13 Noon ding araw na iyon, si Jesus ay lumabas ng bahay at naupo sa tabi ng lawa. 2 Dahil(B) sa dami ng taong lumalapit sa kanya, sumakay siya sa isang bangka at doon naupo. Tumayo naman sa dalampasigan ang mga tao 3 at sila'y tinuruan niya ng maraming bagay sa pamamagitan ng mga talinghaga. Ganito ang sinabi niya:
“May isang magsasakang lumabas upang maghasik. 4 Sa kanyang paghahasik ay may mga binhing nalaglag sa tabi ng daan. Dumating ang mga ibon at tinuka ang mga iyon. 5 May mga binhi namang nalaglag sa mabatong lupa. Dahil manipis lang ang lupa roon, sumibol agad ang mga binhi, 6 ngunit natuyo agad ang mga ito nang mabilad sa matinding init ng araw, palibhasa'y mababaw ang ugat. 7 May mga binhi namang nalaglag sa may matitinik na halaman. Lumago ang mga halamang matitinik at sinakal ng mga ito ang mga binhing tumubo doon. 8 Ngunit ang mga binhing nahasik sa matabang lupa ay namunga; may tig-iisandaan, may tig-aanimnapu, at may tigtatatlumpu. 9 Makinig ang may pandinig!”
Ang Layunin ng mga Talinghaga(C)
10 Lumapit ang mga alagad at tinanong si Jesus, “Bakit po kayo gumagamit ng talinghaga sa kanila?” 11 Sumagot siya, “Ipinagkaloob sa inyo ang karapatang maunawaan ang hiwaga tungkol sa kaharian ng langit, ngunit hindi ito ipinagkaloob sa kanila. 12 Sapagkat(D) ang mayroon ay bibigyan pa, at lalong magkakaroon; ngunit ang wala, kahit ang kakaunting nasa kanya ay kukunin pa. 13 Nagsasalita ako sa kanila sa pamamagitan ng talinghaga sapagkat tumitingin sila ngunit hindi nakakakita, at nakikinig ngunit hindi naman nakakarinig ni nakakaunawa man. 14 Natutupad(E) nga sa kanila ang propesiya ni Isaias na nagsasabi,
‘Makinig man kayo nang makinig, hindi kayo makakaunawa kailanman,
at tumingin man kayo nang tumingin, hindi kayo makakakita kailanman.
15 Sapagkat naging mapurol na ang isip ng mga taong ito;
mahirap makarinig ang kanilang mga tainga,
at ipinikit nila ang kanilang mga mata,
kung hindi gayon, sana'y nakakita ang kanilang mga mata,
nakarinig ang kanilang mga tainga,
nakaunawa ang kanilang mga isip,
at nagbalik-loob sila sa akin,
at pinagaling ko sila.’
16 “Subalit(F) pinagpala kayo sapagkat nakakakita ang inyong mga mata at nakakarinig ang inyong mga tainga! 17 Tandaan ninyo: maraming propeta at matutuwid na tao ang naghangad na makita ang inyong nasasaksihan at marinig ang inyong napapakinggan subalit hindi nila ito nakita ni narinig.”

18 “Makinig kayo at unawain ang kahulugan ng talinghaga tungkol sa manghahasik. 19 Kapag ang isang tao ay nakikinig ng mensahe tungkol sa paghahari ng Diyos ngunit hindi naman niya iyon inuunawa, siya ay katulad ng binhing nalaglag sa daan. Dumarating ang Masama at agad inaalis sa kanyang isip ang mensaheng kanyang napakinggan.
20 “Ang katulad naman ng binhing nalaglag sa mabatong lupa ay ang taong nakikinig ng mensahe na kaagad at masayang tumatanggap nito 21 ngunit hindi tumitimo ang mensahe sa kanyang puso. Sandali lamang itong nananatili, at pagdating ng mga kapighatian at pagsubok dahil sa mensahe, agad siyang tumatalikod sa kanyang pananampalataya.
22 “Ang binhi namang nahulog sa may matitinik na halaman ay ang mga taong nakikinig ng mensahe ngunit dahil sa pagkabalisa sa maraming mga bagay at pagkahumaling sa kayamanan, nawawalan ng puwang sa kanilang puso ang mensahe at hindi ito nagkakaroon ng bunga.
23 “At ang katulad naman ng binhing nahasik sa matabang lupa ay ang mga taong dumirinig at umuunawang mabuti sa mensahe, kaya't ito ay namumunga nang sagana, may tig-iisandaan, may tig-aanimnapu, at may tigtatatlumpu.”
Talinghaga tungkol sa mga Damo sa Triguhan
24 Nagsalaysay muli si Jesus sa kanila ng isa pang talinghaga. Sinabi niya, “Ang kaharian ng langit ay katulad ng isang taong naghasik ng mabuting binhi sa kanyang bukid. 25 Isang gabi, habang natutulog ang mga tao, dumating ang kanyang kaaway, naghasik ng mapanirang damo sa triguhan at saka umalis. 26 Nang tumubo at magbunga ang trigo, lumitaw din ang mapanirang damo. 27 Kaya't pumunta ang mga utusan sa may-ari ng bukid at nagtanong, ‘Hindi po ba mabuting binhi lamang ang inihasik ninyo sa inyong bukid? Bakit po may damo ngayon?’ 28 Sumagot siya, ‘Isang kaaway ang may kagagawan nito.’ Tinanong siya ng mga utusan, ‘Bubunutin po ba namin ang mga damo?’ 29 ‘Huwag, baka mabunot pati ang mga trigo,’ sagot niya. 30 ‘Hayaan na lamang ninyong lumago kapwa ang damo at ang trigo hanggang sa anihan. Sa pag-aani'y sasabihin ko sa mga tagapag-ani, ipunin muna ninyo ang mga damo at inyong pagbigkis-bigkisin at saka sunugin. Pagkatapos, ipunin naman ninyo ang trigo sa aking kamalig.’”
Talinghaga tungkol sa Buto ng Mustasa(H)
31 Sa pagpapatuloy, isa pang talinghaga ang isinalaysay ni Jesus sa kanila. “Ang kaharian ng langit ay katulad ng isang buto ng mustasa na itinanim ng isang tao sa kanyang bukid. 32 Ang buto ng mustasa ang pinakamaliit sa lahat ng binhi. Ngunit pagtubo nito, ito'y nagiging mas malaki kaysa alin mang halaman at nagiging punongkahoy, kaya't nakakapagpugad ang mga ibon sa mga sanga nito.”
Talinghaga tungkol sa Pampaalsa(I)
33 Nagsalaysay pa si Jesus ng ibang talinghaga. “Ang kaharian ng langit ay katulad ng pampaalsa na inihalo ng isang babae sa tatlong takal na harina, hanggang umalsa ang buong masa ng harina.”
Ang Paggamit ni Jesus ng mga Talinghaga(J)
34 Ang lahat ng ito ay sinabi ni Jesus sa mga tao sa pamamagitan ng mga talinghaga, at wala siyang itinuro sa kanila nang hindi sa pamamagitan ng talinghaga. 35 Sa(K) gayon, natupad ang sinabi ng propeta:[a]
“Magsasalita ako sa pamamagitan ng mga talinghaga,
ihahayag ko ang mga bagay na inilihim mula pa nang likhain [ang daigdig].”[b]
Kahulugan ng Talinghaga tungkol sa mga Damo sa Triguhan
36 Pagkatapos, iniwan ni Jesus ang mga tao at pumasok siya sa bahay. Lumapit ang kanyang mga alagad at sinabi sa kanya, “Ipaliwanag po ninyo sa amin ang talinghaga tungkol sa mapanirang damong tumubo sa bukid.” 37 Sumagot si Jesus, “Ang naghahasik ng mabubuting binhi ay ang Anak ng Tao, 38 ang bukid ay ang daigdig, ang mabuting binhi ay ang mga taong kabilang sa kaharian at ang mapanirang damo naman ay ang mga kabilang sa Masama. 39 Ang kaaway na naghasik ng damo ay walang iba kundi ang diyablo. Ang panahon ng pag-aani ay ang katapusan ng daigdig at ang mga tagapag-ani naman ay ang mga anghel. 40 Kung paanong ang mga damo ay tinitipon at sinusunog, ganoon din ang mangyayari sa katapusan ng daigdig. 41 Ipag-uutos ng Anak ng Tao sa kanyang mga anghel na tipunin nila mula sa kanyang kaharian ang lahat ng nagiging sanhi ng pagkakasala at ang lahat ng gumagawa ng masama. 42 Ihahagis nila ang mga ito sa lumalagablab na pugon at doon ay mananangis sila at magngangalit ang kanilang mga ngipin. 43 Ngunit ang mga gumagawa ng matuwid ay magliliwanag na parang araw sa kaharian ng kanilang Ama. Makinig ang may pandinig!”
Ang Natatagong Kayamanan
44 “Ang kaharian ng langit ay katulad ng kayamanang nakabaon sa isang bukid. Nahukay ito ng isang tao ngunit agad itong tinabunan. Tuwang-tuwa siyang umalis at ibinenta ang lahat ng kanyang ari-arian upang bilhin ang bukid na iyon.”
Ang Perlas na Mahalaga
45 “Ang kaharian ng langit ay katulad din ng isang negosyante na naghahanap ng mga mamahaling perlas. 46 Nang makakita siya ng isang perlas na napakahalaga, umuwi siya't ipinagbili ang lahat ng kanyang ari-arian at binili ang perlas na iyon.”
Ang Lambat
47 “Ang kaharian ng langit ay katulad din ng isang lambat na inihagis sa dagat at nakahuli ng sari-saring isda. 48 Nang mapuno ang lambat, hinila ito sa pampang. Naupo ang mga tao habang tinitipon nila sa sisidlan ang mabubuting isda at itinatapon naman ang mga isdang hindi mapapakinabangan. 49 Gayundin ang mangyayari sa katapusan ng daigdig, darating ang mga anghel, ihihiwalay ang masasama sa mga matuwid, 50 at ihahagis ang masasama sa naglalagablab na apoy. Doo'y mananangis sila at magngangalit ang kanilang mga ngipin.”
Kayamanang Bago at Luma
51 “Nauunawaan ba ninyo ang lahat ng ito?” tanong ni Jesus. “Opo,” sagot nila. 52 At sinabi niya sa kanila, “Kaya nga, ang bawat tagapagturo ng Kautusan na tinuruan tungkol sa kaharian ng langit ay katulad ng isang pinuno ng sambahayan na naglalabas ng mga bagay na bago at luma mula sa kanyang taguan ng kayamanan.”
Si Jesus ay Hindi Tinanggap sa Nazaret(L)
53 Umalis si Jesus mula roon matapos niyang isalaysay ang mga talinghagang ito. 54 Umuwi siya sa kanyang bayan at nagturo sa kanilang sinagoga. Nagtaka ang mga nakarinig sa kanya, kaya't kanilang itinanong, “Saan kumuha ng ganyang karunungan ang taong iyan? Paano siya nakakagawa ng mga himala? 55 Hindi ba siya ay anak ng isang karpintero? Hindi ba si Maria ang kanyang ina at sina Santiago, Jose, Simon, at Judas ang kanyang mga kapatid? 56 At tagarito rin ang kanyang mga kapatid na babae, di ba? Saan kaya niya natutuhan ang lahat ng iyan?” 57 At(M) siya'y hindi nila pinaniwalaan.
Kaya't sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Ang isang propeta'y iginagalang kahit saan maliban sa kanyang sariling bayan at sariling sambahayan.” 58 At dahil ayaw nilang maniwala kay Jesus, hindi siya gumawa roon ng maraming himala.

The Parable of the Sower Explained(R)
18 (S)“Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word (T)of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately (U)receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. 24 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but (AA)gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”

The Parable of the Tares Explained
36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.”
37 He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 (AK)The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are (AL)the sons of the wicked one. 39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, (AM)the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. 40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, (AN)and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42 (AO)and will cast them into the furnace of fire. The Parable of the Hidden Treasure
44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and (AS)sells all that he has and (AT)buys that field.

45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, 46 who, when he had found (AU)one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
The Parable of the Dragnet
47 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and (AV)gathered some of every kind, 48 which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. 51 [d]Jesus said to them, “Have you understood all these things?”
They said to Him, “Yes, [e]Lord.”
52 Then He said to them, “Therefore every [f]scribe instructed [g]concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure (AX)things new and old.”
Jesus Rejected at Nazareth(AY)
53 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, that He departed from there. 54 (AZ)When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55 (BA)Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And (BB)His brothers (BC)James, [h]Joses, Simon, and Judas? 56 And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” 57 So they (BD)were offended at Him.
But Jesus said to them, (BE)“A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” 58 Now (BF)He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

The Parable of the Sower

A sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seeds fell on a path, and the birds came and ate them up. 5 Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. 6 But when the sun rose, they were scorched, and since they had no root, they withered away. 7 Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. 8 Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.(B) 9 If you have ears,[a] hear!”(C)
The Purpose of the Parables
10 Then the disciples came and asked him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” 11 He answered, “To you it has been given to know the secrets[b] of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.(D) 12 For to those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance, but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away.(E) 13 The reason I speak to them in parables is that ‘seeing they do not perceive, and hearing they do not listen, nor do they understand.’(F) 14 With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah that says:
‘You will indeed listen but never understand,
and you will indeed look but never perceive.(G)
15 For this people’s heart has grown dull,
and their ears are hard of hearing,
and they have shut their eyes,
so that they might not look with their eyes,
and hear with their ears
and understand with their heart and turn—
and I would heal them.’(H)
16 “But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.(I) 17 Truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.(J)
The Parable of the Sower Explained
18 “Hear, then, the parable of the sower. 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path.(K) 20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, 21 yet such a person has no root but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away.[c](L) 22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of this[d] age and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing.(M) 23 But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”(N)
The Parable of Weeds among the Wheat
24 He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to someone who sowed good seed in his field,(O) 25 but while everybody was asleep an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and then went away. 26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared as well. 27 And the slaves of the householder came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where, then, did these weeds come from?’ 28 He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The slaves said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ 29 But he replied, ‘No, for in gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them. 30 Let both of them grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Collect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’ ”(P)
The Parable of the Mustard Seed
31 He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field;(Q) 32 it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”(R)
The Parable of the Yeast
33 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with[e] three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.”(S)
The Use of Parables
34 Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables; without a parable he told them nothing.(T) 35 This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet:[f]
“I will open my mouth to speak in parables;
I will proclaim what has been hidden since the foundation.”[g](U)
Jesus Explains the Parable of the Weeds
36 Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples approached him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” 37 He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man; 38 the field is the world, and the good seed are the children of the kingdom; the weeds are the children of the evil one,(V) 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.(W) 40 Just as the weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.(X) 41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all causes of sin[h] and all evildoers,(Y) 42 and they will throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(Z) 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Three Parables
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and reburied; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.(AB)
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; 46 on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.
47 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and caught fish of every kind;(AC) 48 when it was full, they drew it ashore, sat down, and put the good into baskets but threw out the bad. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous(AD) 50 and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(AE)

51 “Have you understood all this?” They answered, “Yes.” 52 And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.” 53 When Jesus had finished these parables, he left that place.(AF)
The Rejection of Jesus at Nazareth
54 He came to his hometown and began to teach the people[j] in their synagogue, so that they were astounded and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these deeds of power?(AG) 55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?(AH) 56 And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all this?” 57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “Prophets are not without honor except in their own hometown and in their own house.”(AI) 58 And he did not do many deeds of power there, because of their unbelief.

3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred,(F) sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”(G)
10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”
11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven(H) has been given to you,(I) but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.(J) 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:
“Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.(K)

“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;

15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.

hear with their ears,

16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.(N) 17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see(O) but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom(P) and does not understand it, the evil one(Q) comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.(R) 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth(S) choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”(T)
The Parable of the Weeds
24 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like(U) a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
27 “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’
28 “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.
“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”(V)
The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast(W)(X)
31 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like(Y) a mustard seed,(Z) which a man took and planted in his field. 32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”(AA)
33 He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like(AB) yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds[b] of flour(AC) until it worked all through the dough.”(AD)
34 Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.(AE) 35 So was fulfilled(AF) what was spoken through the prophet:
“I will open my mouth in parables,

The Parable of the Weeds Explained
36 Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable(AH) of the weeds in the field.”
37 He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.(AI) 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one,(AJ) 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest(AK) is the end of the age,(AL) and the harvesters are angels.(AM)
40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man(AN) will send out his angels,(AO) and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(AP) 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun(AQ) in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.(AR)
The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like(AS) treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.(AT)
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like(AU) a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
The Parable of the Net
47 “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like(AV) a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds(AW) of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous(AX) 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(AY)
51 “Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked.
“Yes,” they replied.
52 He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”
A Prophet Without Honor(AZ)
53 When Jesus had finished these parables,(BA) he moved on from there. 54 Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue,(BB) and they were amazed.(BC) “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked. 55 “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?(BD) Isn’t his mother’s(BE) name Mary, and aren’t his brothers(BF) James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56 Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” 57 And they took offense(BG) at him.
But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”(BH)
58 And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
