Jesús y Juan el Bautista(A)
11 Cuando Jesús terminó de dar instrucciones a sus doce discípulos, se fue de allí a enseñar y a predicar en otros pueblos.
2 Juan estaba en la cárcel, y al enterarse de lo que Cristo estaba haciendo, envió a sus discípulos a que le preguntaran:
3 ―¿Eres tú el que ha de venir, o debemos esperar a otro?
4 Les respondió Jesús:
―Id y contadle a Juan lo que estáis viendo y oyendo: 5 Los ciegos ven, los cojos andan, los que tienen lepra son sanados, los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan y a los pobres se les anuncian las buenas nuevas. 6 Dichoso el que no tropieza por causa mía.
7 Mientras se iban los discípulos de Juan, Jesús comenzó a hablar a la multitud acerca de Juan: «¿Qué salisteis a ver al desierto? ¿Una caña sacudida por el viento? 8 Si no, ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿A un hombre vestido con ropa fina? Claro que no, pues los que usan ropa de lujo están en los palacios de los reyes. 9 Entonces, ¿qué fuisteis a ver? ¿A un profeta? Sí, os digo, y más que profeta. 10 Este es de quien está escrito:
»“Yo estoy por enviar a mi mensajero delante de ti,
el cual preparará tu camino”.[a]
11 Os aseguro que entre los mortales no se ha levantado nadie más grande que Juan el Bautista; sin embargo, el más pequeño en el reino de los cielos es más grande que él. 12 Desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, el reino de los cielos ha venido avanzando contra viento y marea, y los que se esfuerzan logran aferrarse a él.[b] 13 Porque todos los profetas y la ley profetizaron hasta Juan. 14 Y, si queréis aceptar mi palabra, Juan es el Elías que había de venir. 15 El que tenga oídos, que oiga.
16 »¿Con qué puedo comparar a esta generación? Se parece a los niños sentados en la plaza que gritan a los demás:
17 »“Tocamos la flauta,
y no bailasteis;
Cantamos por los muertos,
y no llorasteis”.
18 »Porque vino Juan, que no comía ni bebía, y dicen: “Tiene un demonio”. 19 Vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: “Este es un glotón y un borracho, amigo de recaudadores de impuestos y de pecadores”. Pero la sabiduría queda demostrada por sus hechos».
Ayes sobre ciudades no arrepentidas(B)
20 Entonces comenzó Jesús a denunciar a las ciudades en que había hecho la mayor parte de sus milagros, porque no se habían arrepentido. 21 «¡Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! Si se hubieran hecho en Tiro y en Sidón los milagros que se hicieron en medio de vosotras, ya hace tiempo que se habrían arrepentido con muchos lamentos.[c] 22 Pero os digo que en el día del juicio será más tolerable el castigo para Tiro y Sidón que para vosotras. 23 Y tú, Capernaún, ¿acaso serás levantada hasta el cielo? No, sino que descenderás hasta el abismo. Si los milagros que se hicieron en ti se hubieran hecho en Sodoma, esta habría permanecido hasta el día de hoy. 24 Pero te[d] digo que en el día del juicio será más tolerable el castigo para Sodoma que para ti».
Descanso para los cansados(C)
25 En aquel tiempo Jesús dijo: «Te alabo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque habiendo escondido estas cosas de los sabios e instruidos, se las has revelado a los que son como niños. 26 Sí, Padre, porque esa fue tu buena voluntad.
27 »Mi Padre me ha entregado todas las cosas. Nadie conoce al Hijo sino el Padre, y nadie conoce al Padre sino el Hijo y aquel a quien el Hijo quiera revelarlo.
28 »Venid a mí todos vosotros que estáis cansados y agobiados, y yo os daré descanso. 29 Cargad con mi yugo y aprended de mí, pues yo soy apacible y humilde de corazón, y encontraréis descanso para vuestra alma. 30 Porque mi yugo es suave y mi carga es liviana».

John the Baptist Sends Messengers to Jesus(A)
11 Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished commanding His twelve disciples, that He departed from there to (B)teach and to preach in their cities.
2 (C)And when John had heard (D)in prison about the works of Christ, he [a]sent two of his disciples 3 and said to Him, “Are You (E)the Coming One, or do we look for another?”
4 Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: 5 (F)The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and (G)the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he who is not (H)offended because of Me.”
7 (I)As they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? (J)A reed shaken by the wind? 8 But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. 9 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, (K)and more than a prophet. 10 For this is he of whom it is written:
(L)‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.’
11 “Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 (M)And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. 13 (N)For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14 And if you are willing to receive it, he is (O)Elijah who is to come. 15 (P)He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
16 (Q)“But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions, 17 and saying:
‘We played the flute for you,
And you did not dance;
We mourned to you,
And you did not [b]lament.’
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a [c]winebibber, (R)a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ (S)But wisdom is justified by her [d]children.”
Woe to the Impenitent Cities(T)
20 (U)Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago (V)in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I say to you, (W)it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, (X)who[e] are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I say to you (Y)that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”
Jesus Gives True Rest(Z)
25 (AA)At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that (AB)You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent (AC)and have revealed them to babes. 26 Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 27 (AD)All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. (AE)Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 28 Come to (AF)Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you (AG)and learn from Me, for I am [f]gentle and (AH)lowly in heart, (AI)and you will find rest for your souls. 30 (AJ)For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Messengers from John the Baptist
11 When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities.
2 (A)Now when John heard (B)in prison about the deeds of (C)the Christ, he sent word by (D)his disciples 3 and said to him, “Are you (E)the one who is to come, or shall we (F)look for another?” 4 And Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: 5 (G)the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers[a] are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and (H)the poor have good news preached to them. 6 And blessed is the one who (I)is not offended by me.”
7 As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out (J)into the wilderness to see? (K)A reed shaken by the wind? 8 What then did you go out to see? A man[b] dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. 9 What then did you go out to see? (L)A prophet?[c] Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is he of whom it is written,

11 Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Come to Me, and I Will Give You Rest
25 (AH)At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, (AI)Lord of heaven and earth, that (AJ)you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and (AK)revealed them to little children; 26 yes, Father, for such was your (AL)gracious will.[g] 27 (AM)All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son (AN)except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone (AO)to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 (AP)Come to (AQ)me, all who labor and are (AR)heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and (AS)learn from me, for I am (AT)gentle and lowly in heart, and (AU)you will find rest for your souls. 30 For (AV)my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
