Los antepasados de Jesucristo(A)
1 Ésta es una lista de los antepasados de Jesucristo, que fue descendiente de David y de Abraham:
2 Abraham fue padre de Isaac, éste lo fue de Jacob y éste de Judá y sus hermanos. 3 Judá fue padre de Fares y de Zérah, y su madre fue Tamar. Fares fue padre de Hesrón y éste de Aram. 4 Aram fue padre de Aminadab, éste lo fue de Nahasón y éste de Salmón. 5 Salmón fue padre de Booz, cuya madre fue Rahab. Booz fue padre de Obed, cuya madre fue Rut. Obed fue padre de Jesé, 6 y Jesé fue padre del rey David.
El rey David fue padre de Salomón, cuya madre fue la que había sido esposa de Urías. 7 Salomón fue padre de Roboam, éste lo fue de Abías y éste de Asá. 8 Asá fue padre de Josafat, éste lo fue de Joram y éste de Ozías. 9 Ozías fue padre de Jotam, éste lo fue de Acaz y éste de Ezequías. 10 Ezequías fue padre de Manasés, éste lo fue de Amón y éste de Josías. 11 Josías fue padre de Jeconías y de sus hermanos, en el tiempo en que los israelitas fueron llevados cautivos a Babilonia.
12 Después de la cautividad, Jeconías fue padre de Salatiel y éste de Zorobabel. 13 Zorobabel fue padre de Abihud, éste lo fue de Eliaquim y éste de Azor. 14 Azor fue padre de Sadoc, éste lo fue de Aquim y éste de Eliud. 15 Eliud fue padre de Eleazar, éste lo fue de Matán y éste de Jacob. 16 Jacob fue padre de José, el marido de María, y ella fue madre de Jesús, al que llamamos el Mesías.
17 De modo que hubo catorce generaciones desde Abraham hasta David, catorce desde David hasta la cautividad de los israelitas en Babilonia, y otras catorce desde la cautividad hasta el Mesías.

18 El origen de Jesucristo fue éste: María, su madre, estaba comprometida para casarse con José; pero antes que vivieran juntos, se encontró encinta por el poder del Espíritu Santo. 19 José, su marido, que era un hombre justo y no quería denunciar públicamente a María, decidió separarse de ella en secreto. 20 Ya había pensado hacerlo así, cuando un ángel del Señor se le apareció en sueños y le dijo: «José, descendiente de David, no tengas miedo de tomar a María por esposa, porque su hijo lo ha concebido por el poder del Espíritu Santo. 21 María tendrá un hijo, y le pondrás por nombre Jesús. Se llamará así porque salvará a su pueblo de sus pecados.»
22 Todo esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que el Señor había dicho por medio del profeta:
23 «La virgen quedará encinta
y tendrá un hijo,
al que pondrán por nombre Emanuel»
(que significa: «Dios con nosotros»).
24 Cuando José despertó del sueño, hizo lo que el ángel del Señor le había mandado, y tomó a María por esposa. 25 Y sin haber tenido relaciones conyugales, ella dio a luz a su hijo, al que José puso por nombre Jesús.

El nacimiento de Jesús
18-20 Así fue como nació Jesús, el Mesías: su madre, María estaba comprometida para casarse con José. Pero antes de que vivieran juntos, se supo que ella estaba embarazada. José era un hombre bueno y obediente a la ley de Dios. Como no quería acusar a María delante de todo el pueblo, decidió romper en secreto el compromiso.
Mientras pensaba en todo esto, un ángel de Dios se le apareció en un sueño y le dijo: «José, no tengas miedo de casarte con María. El Espíritu Santo fue quien hizo que ella quedara embarazada. 21 Cuando nazca el niño, lo llamarás Jesús. Él va a salvar a su pueblo del castigo que merece por sus pecados.»
22-25 Cuando José despertó, obedeció al ángel de Dios y se casó con María. Pero no durmieron juntos como esposos antes de que naciera el niño. Y cuando éste nació, José le puso por nombre Jesús.
Todo esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que Dios había dicho por medio del profeta Isaías:
«¡Presten atención!
Una joven virgen
quedará embarazada,
y tendrá un hijo.
Y llamarán a ese niño
Emanuel.»
Este nombre significa «Dios está con nosotros».

Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son
18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about[d]: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.(S) 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet[e] did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce(T) her quietly.
20 But after he had considered this, an angel(U) of the Lord appeared to him in a dream(V) and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[f](W) because he will save his people from their sins.”(X)
22 All this took place to fulfill(Y) what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”[g](Z) (which means “God with us”).
24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel(AA) of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.(AB)

The Nativity of the Messiah
18 The birth of Jesus Christ came about this way: After His mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, it was discovered before they came together that she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit.(O) 19 So her husband Joseph, being a righteous man,(P) and not wanting to disgrace her publicly, decided to divorce her secretly.(Q)
20 But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit.(R) 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to name Him Jesus,[i](S) because He will save His people from their sins.”(T)
22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
23 See, the virgin will become pregnant
and give birth to a son,
and they will name Him Immanuel,[j]
which is translated “God is with us.”(U)
24 When Joseph got up from sleeping, he did as the Lord’s angel had commanded him. He married her(V) 25 but did not know her intimately until she gave birth to a son.[k] And he named Him Jesus.(W)

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.
