Despre milostenie şi rugăciune
6 Luaţi seama să nu vă îndepliniţi neprihănirea voastră înaintea oamenilor, ca să fiţi văzuţi de ei; altminteri, nu veţi avea răsplată de la Tatăl vostru, care este în ceruri. 2 Tu, dar, când faci(A) milostenie, nu suna cu trâmbiţa înaintea ta, cum fac făţarnicii în sinagogi şi în uliţe, pentru ca să fie slăviţi de oameni. Adevărat vă spun că şi-au luat răsplata. 3 Ci tu, când faci milostenie, să nu ştie stânga ta ce face dreapta, 4 pentru ca milostenia ta să fie făcută în ascuns; şi Tatăl tău, care vede în ascuns, îţi va răsplăti(B). 5 Când vă rugaţi, să nu fiţi ca făţarnicii, cărora le place să se roage stând în picioare în sinagogi şi la colţurile uliţelor, pentru ca să fie văzuţi de oameni. Adevărat vă spun că şi-au luat răsplata. 6 Ci tu, când te rogi, intră(C) în odăiţa ta, încuie-ţi uşa şi roagă-te Tatălui tău, care este în ascuns; şi Tatăl tău, care vede în ascuns, îţi va răsplăti.
Tatăl nostru. Iertarea greşelilor
7 Când vă rugaţi, să nu bolborosiţi(D) aceleaşi vorbe, ca păgânii, cărora(E) li se pare că, dacă spun o mulţime de vorbe, vor fi ascultaţi. 8 Să nu vă asemănaţi cu ei; căci Tatăl vostru ştie de ce aveţi trebuinţă, mai înainte ca să-I cereţi voi. 9 Iată dar cum trebuie să vă rugaţi: ‘Tatăl(F) nostru care eşti în ceruri! Sfinţească-se Numele Tău; 10 vie Împărăţia Ta; facă-se(G) voia Ta, precum(H) în cer şi pe pământ. 11 Pâinea noastră(I) cea de toate zilele[a] dă-ne-o nouă astăzi 12 şi ne(J) iartă nouă greşelile noastre, precum şi noi iertăm greşiţilor noştri[b] 13 şi(K) nu ne duce în ispită, ci izbăveşte-ne(L) de cel rău. Căci(M) a Ta este împărăţia şi puterea, şi slava în veci. Amin!’ 14 Dacă(N) iertaţi oamenilor greşelile lor, şi Tatăl vostru cel ceresc vă va ierta greşelile voastre. 15 Dar, dacă nu(O) iertaţi oamenilor greşelile lor, nici Tatăl vostru nu vă va ierta greşelile voastre.

16 Când postiţi(P), să nu vă luaţi o înfăţişare posomorâtă, ca făţarnicii, care îşi sluţesc feţele, ca să se arate oamenilor că postesc. Adevărat vă spun că şi-au luat răsplata. 17 Ci tu, când posteşti, unge-ţi(Q) capul şi spală-ţi faţa, 18 ca să te arăţi că posteşti nu oamenilor, ci Tatălui tău, care este în ascuns; şi Tatăl tău, care vede în ascuns, îţi va răsplăti.
Adevăratele comori. Neputinţa de a sluji la doi stăpâni. Grijile şi îngrijorările
19 Nu vă strângeţi(R) comori pe pământ, unde le mănâncă moliile şi rugina şi unde le sapă şi le fură hoţii; 20 ci(S) strângeţi-vă comori în cer, unde nu le mănâncă moliile şi rugina şi unde hoţii nu le sapă, nici nu le fură. 21 Pentru că unde este comoara voastră, acolo va fi şi inima voastră. 22 Ochiul este lumina(T) trupului. Dacă ochiul tău este sănătos, tot trupul tău va fi plin de lumină; 23 dar, dacă ochiul tău este rău, tot trupul tău va fi plin de întuneric. Aşa că, dacă lumina care este în tine este întuneric, cât de mare trebuie să fie întunericul acesta! 24 Nimeni(U) nu poate sluji la doi stăpâni. Căci sau va urî pe unul şi va iubi pe celălalt; sau va ţine la unul, şi va nesocoti pe celălalt: Nu(V) puteţi sluji lui Dumnezeu şi lui Mamona. 25 De aceea vă spun: Nu(W) vă îngrijoraţi de viaţa voastră, gândindu-vă ce veţi mânca sau ce veţi bea; nici de trupul vostru, gândindu-vă cu ce vă veţi îmbrăca. Oare nu este viaţa mai mult decât hrana şi trupul, mai mult decât îmbrăcămintea? 26 Uitaţi-vă(X) la păsările cerului: ele nici nu seamănă, nici nu seceră şi nici nu strâng nimic în grânare, şi totuşi Tatăl vostru cel ceresc le hrăneşte. Oare nu sunteţi voi cu mult mai de preţ decât ele? 27 Şi apoi, cine dintre voi, chiar îngrijorându-se, poate să adauge măcar un cot la înălţimea lui? 28 Şi de ce vă îngrijoraţi de îmbrăcăminte? Uitaţi-vă cu băgare de seamă cum cresc crinii de pe câmp: ei nici nu torc, nici nu ţes; 29 totuşi vă spun că nici chiar Solomon, în toată slava lui, nu s-a îmbrăcat ca unul din ei. 30 Aşa că, dacă astfel îmbracă Dumnezeu iarba de pe câmp, care astăzi este, dar mâine va fi aruncată în cuptor, nu vă va îmbrăca El cu mult mai mult pe voi, puţin credincioşilor? 31 Nu vă îngrijoraţi dar, zicând: ‘Ce vom mânca?’ sau: ‘Ce vom bea?’, sau: ‘Cu ce ne vom îmbrăca?’. 32 Fiindcă toate aceste lucruri neamurile le caută. Tatăl vostru cel ceresc ştie că aveţi trebuinţă de ele. 33 Căutaţi(Y) mai întâi Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu şi neprihănirea Lui, şi toate aceste lucruri vi se vor da pe deasupra. 34 Nu vă îngrijoraţi dar de ziua de mâine; căci ziua de mâine se va îngrijora de ea însăşi. Ajunge zilei necazul ei.

6 »Cuídense de no hacer sus obras de justicia delante de la gente para llamar la atención. Si actúan así, su Padre que está en el cielo no les dará ninguna recompensa.
2 »Por eso, cuando des a los necesitados, no lo anuncies al son de trompeta, como lo hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles para que la gente les rinda homenaje. Les aseguro que ellos ya han recibido toda su recompensa. 3 Más bien, cuando des a los necesitados, que no se entere tu mano izquierda de lo que hace la derecha, 4 para que tu limosna sea en secreto. Así tu Padre, que ve lo que se hace en secreto, te recompensará.
La oración(A)
5 »Cuando oren, no sean como los hipócritas, porque a ellos les encanta orar de pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las plazas para que la gente los vea. Les aseguro que ya han obtenido toda su recompensa. 6 Pero tú, cuando te pongas a orar, entra en tu cuarto, cierra la puerta y ora a tu Padre, que está en lo secreto. Así tu Padre, que ve lo que se hace en secreto, te recompensará. 7 Y al orar, no hablen solo por hablar como hacen los gentiles, porque ellos se imaginan que serán escuchados por sus muchas palabras. 8 No sean como ellos, porque su Padre sabe lo que ustedes necesitan antes de que se lo pidan.
9 »Ustedes deben orar así:
»“Padre nuestro que estás en el cielo,
santificado sea tu nombre.
10 Venga tu reino.
Hágase tu voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
11 Danos hoy nuestro pan cotidiano.[a]
12 Perdónanos nuestras ofensas,
como también nosotros hemos perdonado a nuestros ofensores.
13 Y no nos dejes caer en tentación,
sino líbranos del maligno”.[b]
14 »Porque si perdonan a otros sus ofensas, también los perdonará a ustedes su Padre celestial. 15 Pero si no perdonan a otros sus ofensas, tampoco su Padre perdonará a ustedes las suyas.
El ayuno
16 »Cuando ayunen, no pongan cara triste como hacen los hipócritas, que cambian sus rostros para mostrar que están ayunando. Les aseguro que estos ya han obtenido toda su recompensa. 17 Pero tú, cuando ayunes, perfúmate la cabeza y lávate la cara 18 para que no sea evidente ante los demás que estás ayunando, sino solo ante tu Padre, que está en lo secreto; y tu Padre, que ve lo que se hace en secreto, te recompensará.
Tesoros en el cielo(B)
19 »No acumulen para sí tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y el óxido destruyen, y donde los ladrones se meten a robar. 20 Más bien, acumulen para sí tesoros en el cielo, donde ni la polilla ni el óxido carcomen, ni los ladrones se meten a robar. 21 Porque donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón.
22 »Los ojos son la lámpara del cuerpo. Por tanto, si tus ojos son buenos, todo tu ser disfrutará de la luz. 23 Pero si los ojos son malos, todo tu ser estará en oscuridad. Si la luz que hay en ti es oscuridad, ¡qué densa será esa oscuridad!
24 »Nadie puede servir a dos señores, pues menospreciará a uno y amará al otro o querrá mucho a uno y despreciará al otro. Ustedes no pueden servir a la vez a Dios y a las riquezas.
De nada sirve preocuparse(C)
25 »Por eso les digo: No se preocupen por su vida, qué comerán o beberán; ni por su cuerpo, cómo se vestirán. ¿No tiene la vida más valor que la comida y el cuerpo más que la ropa? 26 Fíjense en las aves del cielo: no siembran ni cosechan, ni almacenan en graneros; sin embargo, el Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿No valen ustedes mucho más que ellas? 27 ¿Quién de ustedes, por mucho que se preocupe, puede añadir una sola hora al curso de su vida?[c]
28 »¿Y por qué se preocupan por la ropa? Observen cómo crecen los lirios del campo. No trabajan ni hilan; 29 sin embargo, les digo que ni siquiera Salomón, con todo su esplendor, se vestía como uno de ellos. 30 Si así viste Dios a la hierba que hoy está en el campo y mañana es arrojada al horno, ¿no hará mucho más por ustedes, gente de poca fe? 31 Así que no se preocupen diciendo: “¿Qué comeremos?”, o “¿Qué beberemos?” o “¿Con qué nos vestiremos?”. 32 Los paganos andan tras todas estas cosas, pero su Padre celestial sabe que ustedes las necesitan. 33 Más bien, busquen primeramente el reino de Dios y su justicia, entonces todas estas cosas les serán añadidas. 34 Por lo tanto, no se preocupen por el mañana, el cual tendrá sus propios afanes. 1 Take heed that ye give not your [a]alms before men to be seen of them, or else ye shall have no [b]reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 (A)Therefore when thou givest thine alms, thou shalt not make a trumpet to be blown before thee, as the [c]hypocrites do in the Synagogues and in the streets, to be praised of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.
3 But when thou doest thine alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth,
4 That thine alms may be in secret, and thy Father that seeth in secret, he will reward thee openly.
5 [d]And when thou prayest, be not as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the Synagogues, and in the corners of the streets, because they would be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.
6 But when thou prayest, enter into thy chamber: and when thou hast shut thy door, pray unto thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
7 Also when ye pray, use no [e]vain repetitions as the Heathen: for they think to be heard for their much babbling.
8 Be ye not like them therefore: for your Father knoweth whereof ye have need, before ye ask of him.
9 [f]After this manner therefore pray ye, (B)Our father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done even in earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our [g]daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us (C)from [h]evil: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.
14 (D)[i]For if ye do forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if ye do not forgive men their trespasses, no more will your father forgive you your trespasses.
16 [j]Moreover, when ye fast, look not sour as the hypocrites: for they [k]disfigure their faces, that they might seem unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you that they have their reward.
17 But when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face,
18 That thou seem not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.
19 ¶ [l]Lay not up treasures for yourselves upon the earth, where the moth and canker corrupt, and where thieves dig through and steal.
20 (E)But lay up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither the moth nor canker corrupteth, and where thieves neither dig through nor steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 ¶ (F)[m]The light of the body is the eye: if then thine [n]eye be single, thy whole body shall be light.
23 But if thine eye be wicked, then all thy body shall be dark. Wherefore if the light that is in thee, be darkness, how great is that darkness?
24 (G)[o]No man can serve [p]two masters: for either he shall hate the one, and love the other, or else he shall lean to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and [q]riches.
25 (H)[r]Therefore I say unto you, be not careful for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink: nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more worth than meat? and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the [s]heaven: for they sow not, neither reap, nor carry into the barns, yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by [t]taking care is able to add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why care ye for raiment? Learn how the Lilies of the field do grow: they [u]are not wearied, neither spin:
29 Yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore if God so clothe the grass of the field which is today, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not do much more unto you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or what shall we drink? or wherewith shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things seek the Gentiles) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be ministered unto you.
34 Care not then for the morrow, for the morrow shall care for itself: the day hath enough with his own grief.
