Intrarea lui Isus în Ierusalim
21 Când(A) s-au apropiat de Ierusalim şi au ajuns la Betfaghe, înspre Muntele(B) Măslinilor, Isus a trimis doi ucenici 2 şi le-a zis: „Duceţi-vă în satul dinaintea voastră. În el veţi găsi îndată o măgăriţă legată şi un măgăruş împreună cu ea; dezlegaţi-i şi aduceţi-i la Mine. 3 Dacă vă va zice cineva ceva, să spuneţi că Domnul are trebuinţă de ei. Şi îndată îi va trimite.” 4 Dar toate aceste lucruri s-au întâmplat ca să se împlinească ce fusese vestit prin prorocul care zice: 5 „Spuneţi(C) fiicei Sionului: ‘Iată, Împăratul tău vine la tine, blând şi călare pe un măgar, pe un măgăruş, mânzul unei măgăriţe’.” 6 Ucenicii(D) s-au dus şi au făcut cum le poruncise Isus. 7 Au adus măgăriţa şi măgăruşul, şi-au(E) pus hainele peste ei şi El a şezut deasupra. 8 Cei mai mulţi din norod îşi aşterneau hainele pe drum; alţii(F) tăiau ramuri din copaci şi le presărau pe drum. 9 Noroadele care mergeau înaintea lui Isus şi cele ce veneau în urmă strigau: „Osana(G), Fiul lui David! Binecuvântat(H) este Cel ce vine în Numele Domnului! Osana în cerurile preaînalte!”
Gonirea vânzătorilor din Templu
10 Când(I) a intrat în Ierusalim, toată cetatea s-a pus în mişcare şi fiecare zicea: „Cine este acesta?” 11 „Este Isus, Prorocul(J), din Nazaretul Galileii”, răspundeau noroadele. 12 Isus a intrat(K) în Templul lui Dumnezeu. A dat afară pe toţi cei ce vindeau şi cumpărau în Templu, a răsturnat mesele schimbătorilor(L) de bani şi scaunele celor ce vindeau porumbei 13 şi le-a zis: „Este scris: ‘Casa(M) Mea se va chema o casă de rugăciune’. Dar(N) voi aţi făcut din ea o peşteră de tâlhari.” 14 Nişte orbi şi şchiopi au venit la El în Templu şi El i-a vindecat. 15 Dar preoţii cei mai de seamă şi cărturarii, când au văzut minunile pe care le făcea şi pe copii strigând în Templu şi zicând: „Osana, Fiul lui David!”, s-au umplut de mânie. 16 Şi I-au zis: „Auzi ce zic aceştia?” „Da”, le-a răspuns Isus. „Oare n-aţi citit niciodată cuvintele acestea: ‘Tu ai scos laude din(O) gura pruncilor şi din gura celor ce sug’?” 17 Şi, lăsându-i, a ieşit din cetate, şi S-a îndreptat spre Betania(P) şi a rămas acolo.
Blestemarea smochinului
18 Dimineaţa(Q), pe când Se întorcea în cetate, I-a fost foame. 19 A văzut(R) un smochin lângă drum şi S-a apropiat de el, dar n-a găsit decât frunze şi i-a zis: „De acum încolo, în veac să nu mai dea rod din tine!”Şi îndată smochinul s-a uscat. 20 Ucenicii, când(S) au văzut acest lucru, s-au mirat şi au zis: „Cum de s-a uscat smochinul acesta într-o clipă?” 21 Drept răspuns, Isus le-a zis: „Adevărat vă spun că, dacă(T) veţi avea credinţă şi nu(U) vă veţi îndoi, veţi face nu numai ce s-a făcut smochinului acestuia, ci(V), chiar dacă aţi zice muntelui acestuia: ‘Ridică-te de aici şi aruncă-te în mare’, se va face. 22 Tot(W) ce veţi cere cu credinţă, prin rugăciune, veţi primi.”
Puterea lui Isus. Pilda celor doi fii
23 Isus(X) S-a dus în Templu şi, pe când învăţa norodul, au venit la El preoţii cei mai de seamă şi bătrânii norodului şi I-au zis(Y): „Cu ce putere faci Tu lucrurile acestea şi cine Ţi-a dat puterea aceasta?” 24 Drept răspuns, Isus le-a zis: „Vă voi pune şi Eu o întrebare şi, dacă-Mi veţi răspunde la ea, vă voi spune şi Eu cu ce putere fac aceste lucruri. 25 Botezul lui Ioan de unde venea? Din cer sau de la oameni?” Dar ei vorbeau între ei şi ziceau: „Dacă vom răspunde: ‘Din cer’, ne va spune: ‘Atunci de ce nu l-aţi crezut?’ 26 Şi dacă vom răspunde: ‘De la oameni’, ne temem de norod, pentru că(Z) toţi socotesc pe Ioan drept proroc.” 27 Atunci au răspuns lui Isus: „Nu ştim!” Şi El, la rândul Lui, le-a zis: „Nici Eu nu vă voi spune cu ce putere fac aceste lucruri. 28 Ce credeţi? Un om avea doi feciori. S-a dus la cel dintâi şi i-a zis: ‘Fiule, du-te astăzi de lucrează în via mea!’ 29 ‘Nu vreau’, i-a răspuns el. În urmă, i-a părut rău şi s-a dus. 30 S-a dus şi la celălalt şi i-a spus tot aşa. Şi fiul acesta a răspuns: ‘Mă duc, doamne!’ Şi nu s-a dus. 31 Care din amândoi a făcut voia tatălui său?” „Cel dintâi”, au răspuns ei. Şi Isus le-a zis: „Adevărat(AA) vă spun că vameşii şi curvele merg înaintea voastră în Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu. 32 Fiindcă Ioan(AB) a venit la voi umblând în calea neprihănirii şi nu l-aţi crezut. Dar(AC) vameşii şi curvele l-au crezut. Şi, măcar că aţi văzut lucrul acesta, nu v-aţi căit în urmă ca să-l credeţi.
Pilda vierilor
33 Ascultaţi o altă pildă. Era un om, un gospodar, care(AD) a sădit o vie. A împrejmuit-o cu un gard, a săpat un teasc în ea şi a zidit un turn. Apoi a dat-o unor vieri şi a plecat(AE) în altă ţară. 34 Când a venit vremea roadelor, a trimis pe robii săi la vieri, ca(AF) să ia partea lui de rod. 35 Vierii(AG) au pus mâna pe robii lui şi pe unul l-au bătut, pe altul l-au omorât, iar pe altul l-au ucis cu pietre. 36 A mai trimis alţi robi, mai mulţi decât cei dintâi; şi vierii i-au primit la fel. 37 La urmă, a trimis la ei pe fiul său, zicând: ‘Vor primi cu cinste pe fiul meu!’ 38 Dar vierii, când au văzut pe fiul, au zis între ei: ‘Iată(AH) moştenitorul; veniţi(AI) să-l omorâm şi să punem stăpânire pe moştenirea lui’. 39 Şi(AJ) au pus mâna pe el, l-au scos afară din vie şi l-au omorât. 40 Acum, când va veni stăpânul viei, ce va face el vierilor acelora?” 41 Ei I-au răspuns(AK): „Pe ticăloşii aceia ticălos îi va pierde(AL), şi(AM) via o va da altor vieri, care-i vor da roadele la vremea lor”. 42 Isus le-a zis: „N-aţi(AN) citit niciodată în Scripturi că: ‘Piatra pe care au lepădat-o zidarii a ajuns să fie pusă în capul unghiului; Domnul a făcut acest lucru, şi este minunat în ochii noştri’? 43 De aceea vă spun că(AO) Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu va fi luată de la voi şi va fi dată unui neam care va aduce roadele cuvenite. 44 Cine va(AP) cădea peste piatra aceasta va(AQ) fi zdrobit de ea, iar pe acela peste care va cădea ea, îl va spulbera.” 45 După ce au auzit pildele Lui, preoţii cei mai de seamă şi fariseii au înţeles că Isus vorbeşte despre ei 46 şi căutau să-L prindă, dar se temeau de noroade, pentru că ele(AR) îl socoteau drept proroc.

Şi imediat îi va trimite“. 4 Acest lucru s-a întâmplat ca să se împlinească ceea ce a fost spus prin profetul care zice:
5 „Spuneţi-i fiicei Sionului:
«Iată că Împăratul tău vine la tine,
smerit şi călare pe un măgar,

Isus alungă negustorii din Templu
12 Isus a intrat în Templu[e] şi i-a scos afară pe toţi cei ce vindeau şi cumpărau în Templu. A răsturnat mesele schimbătorilor de bani şi scaunele celor ce vindeau porumbei 13 şi le-a zis: „Este scris:
«Casa Mea va fi numită
o casă de rugăciune»[f],
dar voi aţi făcut din ea o peşteră de tâlhari!“[g]
14 Au venit la El în Templu nişte orbi şi şchiopi, iar El i-a vindecat. 15 Dar conducătorii preoţilor şi cărturarii, când au văzut lucrurile minunate, pe care le făcea, şi pe copiii care strigau în Templu: „Osana, Fiul lui David!“, au fost indignaţi 16 şi I-au zis:
– Auzi ce spun aceştia?
Isus le-a răspuns:
– Da! N-aţi citit niciodată acolo unde scrie că:
„Din gura copiilor şi a celor ce sunt alăptaţi
Ţi-ai scos laudă!“[h]?
17 Şi, lăsându-i, a ieşit din cetate, S-a îndreptat spre Betania şi a înnoptat acolo.
Blestemarea smochinului neroditor. Puterea rugăciunii.
18 Dimineaţa, în timp ce se întorcea în cetate, lui Isus I s-a făcut foame. 19 A văzut un smochin lângă drum şi S-a dus spre el, dar n-a găsit în el decât frunze. Atunci i-a zis: „În veac să nu mai iasă rod din tine!“ Şi deodată smochinul s-a uscat. 20 Ucenicii s-au mirat când au văzut acest lucru şi L-au întrebat:
– Cum de s-a uscat smochinul aşa deodată?
21 Isus le-a răspuns:
– Adevărat vă spun că, dacă aţi avea credinţă şi nu v-aţi îndoi, aţi face nu numai ceea ce am făcut Eu smochinului, ci, chiar dacă aţi zice acestui munte: „Ridică-te şi aruncă-te în mare!“, s-ar întâmpla întocmai! 22 Toate lucrurile pe care le cereţi cu credinţă în rugăciune, le veţi primi.
Autoritatea lui Isus
23 A intrat apoi în Templu. În timp ce dădea învăţătură, au venit la El conducătorii preoţilor şi bătrânii poporului şi L-au întrebat:
– Cu ce autoritate faci aceste lucruri? Şi cine Ţi-a dat această autoritate?
24 Isus le-a răspuns:
– Vă voi pune şi Eu o întrebare, iar dacă Îmi veţi răspunde la ea, vă voi spune şi Eu cu ce autoritate fac aceste lucruri. 25 Botezul lui Ioan de unde era? Din cer sau de la oameni?
Ei au început să vorbească între ei şi să zică: „Dacă vom răspunde: «Din cer!», ne va întreba: «Atunci de ce nu l-aţi crezut?», 26 iar dacă vom răspunde: «De la oameni!», ne temem de mulţime, fiindcă toţi l-au considerat pe Ioan un profet“.
27 Aşa că I-au răspuns lui Isus:
– Nu ştim!
Atunci şi El le-a zis:
– Nici Eu nu vă spun cu ce autoritate fac aceste lucruri.
Pilda celor doi fii
28 Ce părere aveţi? Un om avea doi fii. S-a dus la primul şi i-a zis:
– Fiule, du-te şi lucrează astăzi în vie!
29 Dar el i-a răspuns:
– Nu vreau.
Mai târziu însă i-a părut rău şi s-a dus.
30 Omul s-a dus şi la celălalt şi i-a spus acelaşi lucru. Acesta i-a răspuns: „Da, stăpâne!“, dar nu s-a dus.
31 Care dintre cei doi a făcut voia tatălui?
– Primul! I-au răspuns ei.[i]
Isus le-a zis:
– Adevărat vă spun că până şi colectorii de taxe şi prostituatele merg înaintea voastră în Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu! 32 Căci a venit Ioan la voi umblând pe calea dreptăţii şi nu l-aţi crezut! Dar colectorii de taxe şi prostituatele l-au crezut. Şi măcar că aţi văzut acest lucru, nu v-a părut rău la urmă, ca să-l credeţi!
Pilda viticultorilor
33 Ascultaţi o altă pildă:
Era un om, proprietar de pământ, care a plantat o vie. A împrejmuit-o cu un gard, a săpat un teasc în ea şi a construit un turn de pază.[j] Apoi a arendat-o unor viticultori şi a plecat într-o călătorie. 34 Când s-a apropiat vremea roadelor, i-a trimis pe sclavii săi la viticultori, ca să-i ia partea cuvenită din roade.
35 Viticultorii însă i-au apucat pe sclavii lui şi pe unul l-au bătut, pe altul l-au omorât, iar pe altul l-au ucis cu pietre. 36 A trimis din nou alţi sclavi, mai mulţi decât primii, dar şi cu aceştia au făcut la fel. 37 La urmă l-a trimis la ei pe fiul său, spunându-şi: „Pe fiul meu îl vor respecta!“
38 Dar viticultorii, când l-au văzut pe fiul, şi-au zis între ei: „Acesta este moştenitorul! Haideţi să-l omorâm şi să-i luăm moştenirea!“ 39 Şi l-au apucat, l-au scos afară din vie şi l-au omorât.
40 Aşadar, când va veni stăpânul viei, ce le va face el acelor viticultori?
41 Ei au răspuns:
– Pe ticăloşii aceia îi va nimici printr-o moarte groaznică, iar via le-o va arenda altor viticultori, care la vremea potrivită îi vor da partea cuvenită din roade.
42 Isus i-a întrebat:
– N-aţi citit niciodată în Scripturi că:
„Piatra pe care au respins-o zidarii
a devenit piatra din capul unghiului.
Domnul a făcut acest lucru
şi este minunat în ochii noştri!“[k]?
43 De aceea vă spun că Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu va fi luată de la voi şi-i va fi dată unui neam care va aduce roadele cuvenite. 44 Cel ce cade peste această piatră va fi sfărâmat în bucăţi, iar pe acela peste care cade ea, îl va zdrobi.[l]
45 Când conducătorii preoţilor şi fariseii au auzit pildele Lui, au înţeles că Isus vorbeşte despre ei. 46 Ei au căutat să-L prindă, dar le-a fost frică de mulţimi, pentru că acestea Îl considerau profet.

The Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem(A)
21 As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to Bethphage at the Mount of Olives. There Jesus sent two of the disciples on ahead 2 with these instructions: “Go to the village there ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied up with her colt beside her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 And if anyone says anything, tell him, ‘The Master[a] needs them’; and then he will let them go at once.”
4 This happened in order to make come true what the prophet had said:
5 (B)“Tell the city of Zion,
Look, your king is coming to you!
He is humble and rides on a donkey
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
6 So the disciples went and did what Jesus had told them to do: 7 they brought the donkey and the colt, threw their cloaks over them, and Jesus got on. 8 A large crowd of people spread their cloaks on the road while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 (C)The crowds walking in front of Jesus and those walking behind began to shout, “Praise to David's Son! God bless him who comes in the name of the Lord! Praise be to God!”
10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was thrown into an uproar. “Who is he?” the people asked.
11 “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee,” the crowds answered.
Jesus Goes to the Temple(D)
12 Jesus went into the Temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the stools of those who sold pigeons, 13 (E)and said to them, “It is written in the Scriptures that God said, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer.’ But you are making it a hideout for thieves!”
14 The blind and the crippled came to him in the Temple, and he healed them. 15 The chief priests and the teachers of the Law became angry when they saw the wonderful things he was doing and the children shouting in the Temple, “Praise to David's Son!” 16 (F)So they asked Jesus, “Do you hear what they are saying?”
“Indeed I do,” answered Jesus. “Haven't you ever read this scripture? ‘You have trained children and babies to offer perfect praise.’”
17 Jesus left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.
Jesus Curses the Fig Tree(G)
18 On his way back to the city early next morning, Jesus was hungry. 19 He saw a fig tree by the side of the road and went to it, but found nothing on it except leaves. So he said to the tree, “You will never again bear fruit!” At once the fig tree dried up.
20 The disciples saw this and were astounded. “How did the fig tree dry up so quickly?” they asked.
21 (H)Jesus answered, “I assure you that if you believe and do not doubt, you will be able to do what I have done to this fig tree. And not only this, but you will even be able to say to this hill, ‘Get up and throw yourself in the sea,’ and it will. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
The Question about Jesus' Authority(I)
23 Jesus came back to the Temple; and as he taught, the chief priests and the elders came to him and asked, “What right do you have to do these things? Who gave you such right?”
24 Jesus answered them, “I will ask you just one question, and if you give me an answer, I will tell you what right I have to do these things. 25 Where did John's right to baptize come from: was it from God or from human beings?”
They started to argue among themselves, “What shall we say? If we answer, ‘From God,’ he will say to us, ‘Why, then, did you not believe John?’ 26 But if we say, ‘From human beings,’ we are afraid of what the people might do, because they are all convinced that John was a prophet.” 27 So they answered Jesus, “We don't know.”
And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you, then, by what right I do these things.
The Parable of the Two Sons
28 “Now, what do you think? There was once a man who had two sons. He went to the older one and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ 29 ‘I don't want to,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. 30 Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. ‘Yes, sir,’ he answered, but he did not go. 31 Which one of the two did what his father wanted?”
“The older one,” they answered.
So Jesus said to them, “I tell you: the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the Kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 (J)For John the Baptist came to you showing you the right path to take, and you would not believe him; but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. Even when you saw this, you did not later change your minds and believe him.
The Parable of the Tenants in the Vineyard(K)
33 (L)“Listen to another parable,” Jesus said. “There was once a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a hole for the wine press, and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to tenants and left home on a trip. 34 When the time came to gather the grapes, he sent his slaves to the tenants to receive his share of the harvest. 35 The tenants grabbed his slaves, beat one, killed another, and stoned another. 36 Again the man sent other slaves, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. 37 Last of all he sent his son to them. ‘Surely they will respect my son,’ he said. 38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the owner's son. Come on, let's kill him, and we will get his property!’ 39 So they grabbed him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
40 “Now, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” Jesus asked.
41 “He will certainly kill those evil men,” they answered, “and rent the vineyard out to other tenants, who will give him his share of the harvest at the right time.”
42 (M)Jesus said to them, “Haven't you ever read what the Scriptures say?
‘The stone which the builders rejected as worthless
turned out to be the most important of all.
This was done by the Lord;
what a wonderful sight it is!’
43 “And so I tell you,” added Jesus, “the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce the proper fruits.” 44 [b]
45 The chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus' parables and knew that he was talking about them, 46 so they tried to arrest him. But they were afraid of the crowds, who considered Jesus to be a prophet.

Jesus at the Temple(K)
12 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying(L) and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers(M) and the benches of those selling doves.(N) 13 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’[e](O) but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’[f]”(P)
14 The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them.(Q) 15 But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,”(R) they were indignant.(S)
16 “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him.
“Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read,
17 And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany,(U) where he spent the night.
Jesus Curses a Fig Tree(V)
18 Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.(W)
20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked.
21 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt,(X) not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for(Y) in prayer.”
The Authority of Jesus Questioned(Z)
23 Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. “By what authority(AA) are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you this authority?”
24 Jesus replied, “I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. 25 John’s baptism—where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin?”
They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ 26 But if we say, ‘Of human origin’—we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet.”(AB)
27 So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”
Then he said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
The Parable of the Two Sons
28 “What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’(AC)
29 “‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.
30 “Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.
31 “Which of the two did what his father wanted?”
“The first,” they answered.
Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors(AD) and the prostitutes(AE) are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness,(AF) and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors(AG) and the prostitutes(AH) did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent(AI) and believe him.
The Parable of the Tenants(AJ)
33 “Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted(AK) a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower.(AL) Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.(AM) 34 When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants(AN) to the tenants to collect his fruit.
35 “The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.(AO) 36 Then he sent other servants(AP) to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. 37 Last of all, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.
38 “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir.(AQ) Come, let’s kill him(AR) and take his inheritance.’(AS) 39 So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
40 “Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”
41 “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,”(AT) they replied, “and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants,(AU) who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.”
42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:
“‘The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
the Lord has done this,
and it is marvelous in our eyes’[h]?(AV)
43 “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you(AW) and given to a people who will produce its fruit. 44 Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”[i](AX)
45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus’ parables, they knew he was talking about them. 46 They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.(AY)
