Liknelsen om såningsmannen
4 Sedan började han undervisa vid sjön igen. Då samlades så mycket folk kring honom att han steg i en båt och satt i den ute på sjön, medan allt folket stod på stranden. 2 Han använde många liknelser, när han undervisade dem och sade: 3 "Lyssna! En såningsman gick ut för att så. 4 Och när han sådde föll en del vid vägen, och fåglarna kom och åt upp det. 5 En del föll på stenig mark där det inte fanns mycket jord, och det kom snart upp därför att det inte hade djup jord. 6 Men när solen steg sveddes det, och eftersom det inte hade någon rot torkade det bort. 7 En del föll bland tistlar, och tistlarna växte upp och kvävde det, så att det inte gav någon skörd. 8 Men en del föll i god jord. Det sköt upp och växte och gav skörd, trettiofalt och sextiofalt och hundrafalt." 9 Och han sade: "Hör, du som har öron att höra med!"
10 När han blev ensam med de tolv och de andra som var med honom, frågade de honom om liknelserna. 11 Då sade han till dem: "Ni har fått del i Guds rikes hemlighet. Men de som står utanför får allt i liknelser, 12 för att de skall se med sina ögon och ändå inte se och höra med sina öron och ändå inte förstå och omvända sig och få förlåtelse."
Liknelsens innebörd
13 Han sade vidare till dem: "Om ni inte förstår denna liknelse, hur skall ni då kunna förstå några liknelser alls? 14 Såningsmannen sår ordet. 15 De vid vägen är de hos vilka ordet sås. Men när de hör det, kommer genast Satan och tar bort ordet som är sått i dem. 16 De som sås på stenig mark är de som genast tar emot ordet med glädje, när de hör det. 17 Men de har inte någon rot i sig utan tror bara till en tid. Möter de sedan lidande eller förföljelse för ordets skull, kommer de strax på fall. 18 Hos andra faller säden bland tistlar. Det är de som har hört ordet, 19 men världsliga bekymmer, bedräglig rikedom och begär efter allt annat kommer in och kväver ordet, så att det blir utan frukt. 20 Men de hos vilka säden faller i god jord, det är de som hör ordet och tar emot det och bär frukt, trettiofalt och sextiofalt och hundrafalt."
21 Han sade också till dem: "Inte går man väl in med ett ljus för att sätta det under skäppan[a] eller under bänken? Gör man det inte för att sätta det på ljushållaren? 22 Det som är dolt måste bli uppenbarat, och det som är gömt måste komma i dagen. 23 Hör, du som har öron att höra med!"
24 Och han sade: "Ge akt på vad ni hör! Med det mått som ni mäter med skall det mätas upp åt er, och ännu mer skall ni få. 25 Ty den som har skall få, och den som inte har, från honom skall tas också det han har."
Liknelsen om den växande säden
26 Jesus sade: "Guds rike är likt en man som sår säd i jorden. 27 Han sover och stiger upp, natt följer på dag och säden kommer upp och skjuter i höjden, han vet själv inte hur. 28 Av sig själv ger jorden gröda, först strå, sedan ax och därefter fullmoget vete i axet. 29 Och när grödan är mogen räcker han genast ut skäran, eftersom skördetiden är inne."
Liknelsen om senapskornet
30 Han sade också: "Vad skall vi likna Guds rike vid, eller vilken liknelse skall vi använda för att beskriva det? 31 Det är som ett senapskorn. När man sår det är det minst av alla frön på jorden. 32 Men när det har blivit sått, växer det upp och blir större än alla köksväxter och får så stora grenar att himlens fåglar kan bygga bo i dess skugga." 33 Med många sådana liknelser predikade han ordet för dem, på ett sådant sätt att de ville lyssna. 34 Han talade bara i liknelser till dem. Men när han var ensam med sina lärjungar förklarade han allt.
Jesus stillar stormen
35 På kvällen samma dag sade Jesus till sina lärjungar: "Låt oss fara över till andra sidan." 36 De lämnade folket och tog honom - som han var - med sig i båten. Också andra båtar följde med. 37 Då kom det en häftig stormby och vågorna slog in i båten, så att den höll på att fyllas. 38 Själv låg han i aktern och sov på en dyna. De väckte honom och ropade: "Mästare, bryr du dig inte om att vi går under?" 39 Han vaknade och talade strängt till vinden och sade till sjön: "Tig! Var tyst!" Och vinden lade sig, och det blev alldeles lugnt. 40 Han sade till dem: "Varför är ni rädda? Har ni ännu ingen tro?" 41 Då greps de av stor fruktan och sade till varandra: "Vem är han, eftersom både vinden och sjön lyder honom?"

Pilda semănătorului
4 Isus a început din nou să dea învăţătură lângă mare. Se adunase o mulţime aşa de mare în jurul Lui, încât El a trebuit să se suie şi să stea într-o barcă, pe mare, în timp ce întreaga mulţime se afla lângă mare, pe ţărm. 2 El îi învăţa multe lucruri în pilde şi în învăţătura Lui le spunea:
3 „Ascultaţi! Iată, semănătorul a ieşit să semene! 4 În timp ce semăna el, o parte din sămânţă a căzut lângă drum şi au venit păsările şi au mâncat-o. 5 O altă parte a căzut în locuri stâncoase, unde nu avea pământ mult. A răsărit repede, pentru că nu avea pământ adânc, 6 dar când a răsărit soarele, s-a ofilit şi, fiindcă nu avea rădăcină, s-a uscat. 7 O altă parte a căzut între spini, iar spinii au crescut şi au sufocat-o, aşa că nu a dat rod. 8 Alta însă a căzut în pământ bun şi a dat rod care s-a înălţat şi a crescut: un grăunte a rodit treizeci, altul – şaizeci şi altul – o sută.“
9 Apoi le zicea: „Cine are urechi de auzit, să audă!“
10 Când a fost singur, cei din jurul Lui împreună cu cei doisprezece L-au întrebat despre pilde. 11 El le-a zis: „Vouă v-a fost dată taina[a] Împărăţiei lui Dumnezeu, dar pentru cei de afară toate li se spun în pilde, 12 pentru ca
«Să privească mereu, dar să nu priceapă
şi să asculte întruna, dar să nu înţeleagă,
ca nu cumva să se întoarcă la Mine şi să fie iertaţi!»“[b]
13 Apoi le-a zis: „Dacă nu înţelegeţi această pildă, cum veţi înţelege toate celelalte pilde? 14 Semănătorul seamănă Cuvântul. 15 Sămânţa de lângă drum, unde este semănat Cuvântul, sunt cei care aud Cuvântul, dar vine imediat Satan[c] şi ia Cuvântul care a fost semănat în ei. 16 Sămânţa semănată în locuri stâncoase sunt cei care, atunci când aud Cuvântul, îl primesc imediat cu bucurie, 17 dar nu au rădăcină în ei, ci durează doar pentru o vreme. Şi când vine necazul sau persecuţia din pricina Cuvântului, ei se poticnesc imediat. 18 O altă sămânţă, care este cea semănată între spini, sunt cei care aud Cuvântul, 19 dar îngrijorările vieţii, înşelăciunea bogăţiei şi poftele pentru alte lucruri intră în ei, sufocă Cuvântul şi acesta devine neroditor. 20 Sămânţa semănată în pământul cel bun sunt cei care aud Cuvântul, îl primesc şi aduc rod: unul – treizeci, altul – şaizeci şi altul – o sută.“
Pilda felinarului
21 El le-a mai zis: „Oare se aduce felinarul ca să fie pus sub un obroc sau sub un pat?! Nu este adus el ca să fie pus pe un suport? 22 Căci nu este nimic ascuns care nu va fi dezvăluit şi nu este nimic tăinuit care nu va ieşi la iveală! 23 Dacă are cineva urechi de auzit, să audă!
24 Fiţi atenţi la ceea ce auziţi! Cu ce măsură măsuraţi, vi se va măsura şi vi se va adăuga şi mai mult! 25 Căci celui ce are i se va da, dar de la cel ce n-are i se va lua chiar şi ce are!“
Pilda cu sămânţa care creşte
26 El a mai zis:
„Cu Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu este ca şi cu un om care aruncă sămânţă în pământ. 27 Fie că el doarme noaptea sau este treaz ziua, sămânţa încolţeşte şi creşte fără să ştie el cum. 28 Pământul rodeşte de la sine – mai întâi firul verde, apoi spicul, iar apoi întregul bob de grâu în spic. 29 Când grâul este copt, pune imediat secera în el, pentru că a sosit secerişul.“
Pilda bobului de muştar
30 El a mai zis:
„Cu ce să asemănăm Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu sau prin ce pildă am putea s-o descriem? 31 Ea este ca un bob de muştar, care, atunci când este semănat în pământ, este cel mai mic dintre toate seminţele[d] de pe pământ, 32 dar după ce este semănat, el creşte, ajunge mai mare[e] decât toate zarzavaturile şi face ramuri mari, aşa încât păsările îşi pot face cuibul la umbra lor.“
33 Şi prin multe astfel de pilde El le vestea Cuvântul, după cum erau ei în stare să-l asculte[f]. 34 Nu le vorbea deloc fără să folosească vreo pildă. Dar când era doar El cu ucenicii Lui deoparte, le explica toate lucrurile.
Isus linişteşte furtuna
35 În aceeaşi zi, când s-a lăsat seara, le-a zis: „Să traversăm în partea cealaltă!“ 36 Au lăsat mulţimea şi L-au luat aşa cum era, în barcă. Împreună cu El mai erau şi alte bărci. 37 S-a stârnit o furtună foarte puternică,[g] care arunca valurile asupra bărcii, aşa încât barca era aproape plină cu apă. 38 El era în partea din spate a bărcii, dormind pe căpătâi. L-au trezit şi I-au spus: „Învăţătorule, nu-Ţi pasă că pierim?!“ 39 El S-a sculat, a mustrat vântul şi a zis mării: „Taci! Linişteşte-te!“ Vântul s-a oprit şi s-a făcut o linişte mare. 40 Apoi le-a zis: „De ce sunteţi atât de fricoşi? Tot n-aveţi credinţă?“ 41 Ei s-au înfricoşat foarte tare şi-şi ziceau unii altora: „Cine este Acesta, de-L ascultă până şi vântul, şi marea?“

The Parable of the Sower(A)(B)
4 Again Jesus began to teach by the lake.(C) The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. 2 He taught them many things by parables,(D) and in his teaching said: 3 “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.(E) 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”(F)
9 Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(G)
10 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11 He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God(H) has been given to you. But to those on the outside(I) everything is said in parables 12 so that,
“‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’[a]”(J)
13 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14 The farmer sows the word.(K) 15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan(L) comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth(M) and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”
A Lamp on a Stand
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?(N) 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.(O) 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”(P)
24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.(Q) 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”(R)
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like.(S) A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”(T)
The Parable of the Mustard Seed(U)
30 Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like,(V) or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”
33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.(W) 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable.(X) But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.
Jesus Calms the Storm(Y)
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat.(Z) There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”(AA)
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
13 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?
14 The sower soweth the word.
15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,
19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.
21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
25 For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
30 And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?
31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
32 But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.
33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.
34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
