11 När de nu nalkades Jerusalem och voro nära Betfage och Betania vid Oljeberget, sände han åstad två av sina lärjungar
2 och sade till dem: »Gån in i byn som ligger mitt framför eder, så skolen I, strax då I kommen ditin, finna en åsnefåle stå där bunden, som ännu ingen människa har suttit på; lösen den och fören den hit.
3 Och om någon frågar eder varför I gören detta, så skolen I svara: 'Herren behöver den, men han skall strax sända den tillbaka hit.»
4 Då gingo de åstad och funno en åsnefåle stå där bunden utanför en port vid vägen, och de löste den.
5 Och några som stodo där bredvid sade till dem: »Vad gören I? Varför lösen I fålen?»
6 Men de svarade dem såsom Jesus hade bjudit. Då lät man dem vara.
7 Och de förde fålen till Jesus och lade sina mantlar på den, och han satte sig upp på den.
8 Och många bredde ut sina mantlar på vägen, andra åter skuro av kvistar och löv på fälten och strödde på vägen.
9 Och de som gingo före och de som följde efter ropade: »Hosianna! Välsignad vare han som kommer, i Herrens namn.
10 Välsignat vare vår fader Davids rike, som nu kommer. Hosianna i höjden!»
11 Så drog han in i Jerusalem och kom in i helgedomen; och när han hade sett sig omkring överallt och det redan var sent på dagen, gick han med de tolv ut till Betania.
12 När de dagen därefter voro på väg tillbaka från Betania, blev han hungrig.
13 Och då han på avstånd fick se ett fikonträd som hade löv, gick han dit för att se om han till äventyrs skulle finna något därpå; men när han kom fram till det, fann han intet annat än löv, det var icke då fikonens tid.
14 Då talade han och sade till trädet: »Aldrig någonsin mer äte någon frukt av dig.» Och hans lärjungar hörde detta.
15 När de sedan kommo fram till Jerusalem, gick han in i helgedomen och begynte driva ut dem som sålde och köpte i helgedomen. Och han stötte omkull växlarnas bord och duvomånglarnas säten;
16 han tillstadde icke heller att man bar någonting genom helgedomen.
17 Och han undervisade dem och sade: »Det är ju skrivet: 'Mitt hus skall kallas ett bönehus för alla folk.' Men I haven gjort det till en rövarkula.»
18 Då översteprästerna och de skriftlärde fingo höra härom, sökte de efter tillfälle att förgöra honom; ty de fruktade för honom, eftersom allt folket häpnade över hans undervisning.
19 När det blev afton, begåvo de sig ut ur staden.
20 Men då de nu på morgonen åter gingo där fram, fingo de se fikonträdet vara förtorkat ända från roten.
21 Då kom Petrus ihåg vad som hade skett och sade till honom: »Rabbi, se, fikonträdet som du förbannade är förtorkat.»
22 Jesus svarade och sade till dem: »Haven tro på Gud.
23 Sannerligen säger jag eder: Om någon säger till detta berg: 'Häv dig upp, och kasta dig i havet' och därvid icke tvivlar i sitt hjärta, utan tror att det han säger skall ske, då skall det ske honom så.
24 Därför säger jag eder: Allt vad I bedjen om och begären, tron att det är eder givet; och det skall ske eder så.
25 Och när I stån och bedjen, så förlåten, om I haven något emot någon, för att också eder Fader, som är i himmelen, må förlåta eder edra försyndelser.»
26 27 Så kommo de åter till Jerusalem. Och medan han gick omkring i helgedomen, kommo översteprästerna och de skriftlärde och de äldste fram till honom;
28 och de sade till honom: »Med vad myndighet gör du detta? Och vem har givit dig myndighet att göra detta?»
29 Jesus svarade dem: »Jag vill ställa en fråga till eder; svaren mig på den, så skall ock jag säga eder med vad myndighet jag gör detta.
30 Johannes' döpelse, var den från himmelen eller från människor? Svaren mig härpå.»
31 Då överlade de med varandra och sade: »Om vi svara: 'Från himmelen', så frågar han: 'Varför trodden I honom då icke?'
32 Eller skola vi svara: 'Från människor'?» -- det vågade de icke av fruktan för folket, ty alla höllo före att Johannes verkligen var en profet.
33 De svarade alltså Jesus och sade: »Vi veta det icke.» Då sade Jesus till dem: »Så säger icke heller jag eder med vad myndighet jag gör detta.»

Jesus rider in i Jerusalem på en åsna
11 När de närmade sig byarna Betfage och Betania som låg alldeles utanför Jerusalem vid Oljeberget, skickade Jesus två av sina lärjungar i förväg.
2 Gå in i byn som ligger framför er, sa han till dem. När ni kommer fram dit, så får ni se en ung åsna stå bunden där, som ingen har ridit på än. Ta den och kom hit med den.
3 Och om någon frågar vad ni tänker göra med den så säg bara: 'Vår Mästare behöver den, men han kommer snart att lämna tillbaka den.'
4-5 De två männen gav sig iväg och fann åsnan stå bunden på bygatan vid en husport. Medan de höll på att lösgöra den sa några som stod där: Vad tar ni er till med? Tänker ni ta åsnan?
6 De svarade som Jesus hade sagt, och då lät man dem ta den.
7 De ledde sedan den unga åsnan till Jesus, och lärjungarna lade sina mantlar på den och Jesus steg upp på den och red mot Jerusalem.
8 För att hylla honom lade många människor ut sina kläder som en matta framför honom och andra bredde ut gröna kvistar från träden.
9 Och både de och de som gick bakom Jesus ropade: Leve kungen! Må Herrens välsignelse vila över honom som nu kommer!
10 Välsignat är det rike som han för med sig, vår fader Davids rike. Gud bevare kungen!
11 Sedan red han in i Jerusalem och gick in i templet. Där gick han runt och iakttog noga allt vad som försiggick. Men eftersom det redan var sent på eftermiddagen återvände han till Betania med de tolv lärjungarna.
Jesus rensar templet
12 Då de lämnade Betania följande morgon kände han sig hungrig.
13 När de kommit ett stycke på väg fick han syn på ett fikonträd som hade slagit ut. Han gick dit för att se om han kunde plocka några fikon på det, men det fanns bara löv. Det var nämligen alltför tidigt på året för att det skulle kunna finnas någon frukt.
14 Då sa Jesus till trädet: Du ska aldrig bära frukt igen! Och lärjungarna hörde honom säga det.
15 När de kom tillbaka till Jerusalem gick han in i templet och började driva ut de affärsmän som sålde offerdjur till pilgrimerna. Han välte omkull borden där man växlade pengar och stånden där man sålde duvor.
16 Han tillät inte heller att man bar varor över tempelplatsen.
17 Och han sa till dem: Ni vet vad Gud har sagt: 'Mitt tempel ska vara en böneplats för alla folk
18 När översteprästerna och de andra judiska ledarna fick höra vad han gjort, började de planera hur de bäst skulle kunna göra sig av med honom. Men deras största problem var det allt större inflytande som Jesus fick över människorna, för hans ord gjorde intryck på dem.
19 När det blev kväll lämnade Jesus och lärjungarna staden som vanligt.
Jesus säger att lärjungarna kan be om vad som helst
20 Då de följande morgon gick förbi fikonträdet igen, såg de att det hade vissnat ända från roten.
21 Då kom Petrus ihåg vad Jesus hade sagt till trädet dagen innan och han utbrast: Mästare, har du sett? Fikonträdet som du förbannade har vissnat!
22-23 Då sa Jesus till sina lärjungar: Ni måste lita på Gud helt och fullt. Och det vill jag säga er: Om ni bara tror och inte tvivlar det minsta, så kan ni säga till detta berg: 'Upp med dig och kasta dig i havet
24 Det är verkligen så. Om ni tror kan ni be om vad som helst och ni ska få det!
25 Men när ni ber Gud om något ska ni först förlåta dem som gjort något orätt mot er, vad det än är. Då ska er Far i himlen också förlåta er era synder.
Folkets ledare ifrågasätter Jesu auktoritet
26-28 Så kom de tillbaka till Jerusalem, och medan Jesus gick omkring i templet kom översteprästerna och de andra judiska ledarna fram till honom och frågade: Vad har du satt igång med? Och vem har gett dig rätt till att köra ut affärsmännen?
29 Det ska jag säga er på ett villkor.
30 Först måste ni svara på en annan fråga: 'Kom Johannes döparen från Gud eller inte?'
31 De samtalade om det och sa till varandra: Om vi svarar att Gud sände honom hit, så kommer han att säga: 'Varför tog ni då inte emot honom?'
32 Men om vi säger att han inte var sänd av Gud, så kommer folket att göra uppror. Alla var nämligen övertygade om att Johannes var en profet.
33 Därför sa de till sist: Vi kan inte svara dig. Vi vet det inte.Då så, svarade Jesus, då säger inte heller jag er vem som har gett mig rätt att göra detta.

The Triumphal Entry
11 When(A) they approached Jerusalem,(B) at Bethphage and Bethany(C) near the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples 2 and told them, “Go into the village ahead of you. As soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here right away.’”
4 So they went and found a colt outside in the street, tied by a door. They untied it, 5 and some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6 They answered them just as Jesus had said; so they let them go.
7 They brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and he sat on it. 8 Many people spread their clothes on the road,(D) and others spread leafy branches cut from the fields.[a] 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted:
Hosanna!
Blessed is he who comes
in the name(E) of the Lord
10 Blessed is the coming kingdom(G)
of our father David!(H)
Hosanna(I) in the highest heaven!
11 He went into Jerusalem(J) and into the temple.(K) After looking around at everything, since it was already late, he went out to Bethany(L) with the Twelve.
The Barren Fig Tree Is Cursed
12 The(M) next day when they went out from Bethany, he was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig(N) tree with leaves, he went to find out if there was anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for it was not the season for figs. 14 He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit(O) from you again!”(P) And his disciples(Q) heard it.
Cleansing the Temple
15 They came to Jerusalem,(R) and he went into the temple(S) and began to throw out those buying and selling. He overturned the tables of the money changers(T) and the chairs of those selling doves, 16 and would not permit anyone to carry goods through the temple. 17 He was teaching them: “Is it not written,(U) My house(V) will be called a house of prayer(W) for all nations?[c] But you have made it a den of thieves!”[d](X)
18 The chief priests and the scribes(Y) heard it and started looking for a way to kill him. For they were afraid(Z) of him, because the whole crowd was astonished by his teaching.
19 Whenever evening came, they would go out of the city.
The Barren Fig Tree Is Withered
20 Early(AA) in the morning, as they were passing by, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up. 21 Then Peter(AB) remembered and said to him, “Rabbi,(AC) look! The fig tree that you cursed(AD) has withered.”
22 Jesus replied to them, “Have faith in God.(AE) 23 Truly I tell you,(AF) if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt(AG) in his heart, but believes(AH) that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.(AI) 24 Therefore I tell you, everything you pray(AJ) and ask for(AK)—believe that you have received[e](AL) it and it will be yours. 25 And whenever you stand(AM) praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive(AN) him, so that your Father(AO) in heaven(AP) will also forgive(AQ) you your wrongdoing.”[f]
The Authority of Jesus Challenged
27 They(AR) came again to Jerusalem.(AS) As he was walking in the temple,(AT) the chief priests, the scribes,(AU) and the elders(AV) came 28 and asked him, “By what authority(AW) are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority to do these things?”
29 Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question;(AX) then answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30 Was John’s baptism(AY) from heaven or of human origin? Answer me.”
31 They discussed it among themselves: “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why didn’t you believe(AZ) him?’ 32 But if we say, ‘Of human origin’”—they were afraid of the crowd, because everyone thought that John was truly a prophet.(BA) 33 So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”
And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King(A)(B)
11 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany(C) at the Mount of Olives,(D) Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden.(E) Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’”
4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway.(F) As they untied it, 5 some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. 8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted,
“Hosanna![a]”
10 “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”(H)

Jesus Curses a Fig Tree and Clears the Temple Courts(J)(K)(L)
12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs.(M) 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.
15 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 17 And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’[c]?(N) But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’[d]”(O)
18 The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him,(P) because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.(Q)
19 When evening came, Jesus and his disciples[e] went out of the city.(R)
20 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21 Peter remembered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi,(S) look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!”
22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “Truly[f] I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.(T) 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.(U) 25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”(V) [26] [g]
The Authority of Jesus Questioned(W)
27 They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him. 28 “By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you authority to do this?”
29 Jesus replied, “I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. 30 John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or of human origin? Tell me!”
31 They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ 32 But if we say, ‘Of human origin’ …” (They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.)(X)
33 So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”
Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”
