Johannes Döparens predikan

Här börjar evangeliet om Jesus Kristus, Guds Son. Så står det skrivet hos profeten Jesaja: Se, jag sänder min budbärare framför dig, och han skall bereda vägen för dig.[a] En röst ropar i öknen: Bana väg för Herren, gör stigarna raka för honom!

Johannes Döparen trädde fram i öknen och förkunnade omvändelsens dop till syndernas förlåtelse. Och hela Judeen och alla Jerusalems invånare kom ut till honom och bekände sina synder och döptes av honom i floden Jordan. Johannes var klädd i kamelhår och hade ett läderbälte om livet, och han levde av gräshoppor och vildhonung. Han förkunnade: "Efter mig kommer den som är starkare än jag, och jag är inte ens värd att böja mig ner och knyta upp hans sandalremmar.[b] Jag döper er med vatten, men han skall döpa er i den helige Ande."

Jesus blir döpt

Vid den tiden kom Jesus från Nasaret i Galileen och blev döpt i Jordan av Johannes. 10 Och se, när han steg upp ur vattnet, såg han himlen dela sig och Anden komma ner över honom som en duva. 11 Och en röst kom från himlen: "Du är min Son, den Älskade. I dig har jag min glädje."[c]

12 Genast[d] förde Anden honom ut i öknen, 13 och han vistades i öknen under fyrtio dagar och frestades av Satan. Där levde han bland de vilda djuren, och änglarna betjänade honom.

Jesu första lärjungar

14 Sedan Johannes hade blivit fängslad, kom Jesus till Galileen och predikade Guds evangelium. 15 Han sade: "Tiden är fullbordad och Guds rike är nu här.[e] Omvänd er och tro evangelium!" 16 När han gick längs Galileiska sjön, fick han se Simon och hans bror Andreas kasta ut nät i sjön, för de var fiskare. 17 Jesus sade till dem: "Följ mig, så skall jag göra er till människofiskare." 18 Genast lämnade de näten och följde honom. 19 Då han kom lite längre fram, fick han se Jakob, Sebedeus son, och hans bror Johannes, där de satt i båten och gjorde i ordning sina nät. 20 Strax kallade han på dem, och de lämnade sin far Sebedeus och hans daglönare kvar i båten och följde Jesus.

21 De kom till Kapernaum, och när det blev sabbat gick han till synagogan och undervisade. 22 Folket häpnade över hans lära, ty han undervisade dem med auktoritet och inte som de skriftlärda. 23 Och se, i deras synagoga fanns nu en man som hade en oren ande, och han skrek: 24 "Vad har vi med dig att göra, Jesus från Nasaret? Har du kommit för att fördärva oss? Jag vet vem du är, du Guds Helige." 25 Men Jesus sade strängt till anden: "Tig och far ut ur honom!" 26 Den orene anden ryckte i mannen och skrek och for ut ur honom. 27 Alla blev förskräckta och frågade varandra: "Vad är detta? En ny lära med sådan makt. Till och med de orena andarna befaller han, och de lyder honom." 28 Och ryktet om honom spred sig genast överallt i hela Galileen.

29 Så snart de kommit ut ur synagogan, gick de till Simons och Andreas hus tillsammans med Jakob och Johannes. 30 Simons svärmor låg sjuk i feber, och de talade genast med Jesus om henne. 31 Han gick fram, tog hennes hand och reste henne upp. Och febern lämnade henne, och hon betjänade dem.

32 På kvällen, när solen hade gått ner, förde man till honom alla som var sjuka och besatta. 33 Hela staden var samlad utanför dörren. 34 Han botade många som led av olika slags sjukdomar, och han drev ut många onda andar och tillät dem inte att tala, eftersom de visste vem han var.

35 Tidigt på morgonen, medan det var mörkt, steg Jesus upp och gick till en enslig plats och bad där. 36 Simon och de som var med honom skyndade efter, 37 och när de fann Jesus sade de till honom: "Alla söker efter dig." 38 Han sade: "Vi går åt ett annat håll, till byarna här omkring, så att jag kan predika där också. Det är därför jag har gått ut." 39 Och han kom och predikade i deras synagogor i hela Galileen och drev ut de onda andarna.

40 En spetälsk[f] kom fram till honom och föll på knä och bad: "Om du vill, så kan du göra mig ren." 41 Jesus förbarmade sig över honom, räckte ut handen och rörde vid honom och sade: "Jag vill. Bli ren!" 42 Genast försvann spetälskan och han blev ren. 43 Därefter skickade Jesus bort honom och sade strängt: 44 "Se till att du inte talar om detta för någon, men gå och visa dig för prästen och bär fram det offer som Mose har föreskrivit för din rening, som ett vittnesbörd för dem." 45 Men mannen gick sin väg och började ivrigt berätta om det som hade hänt och gjorde saken känd vida omkring, så att Jesus inte längre öppet kunde gå in i någon stad utan måste vistas ute i ödemarken. Och det kom folk till honom från alla håll.

Preaching of John the Baptist

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, (A)the Son of God,

(B)just as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:

(C)Behold, I am sending My messenger [a]before You,
Who will prepare Your way;
(D)The voice of one calling [b]out in the wilderness,
Prepare the way of the Lord,
Make His paths straight!’”

John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, [c](E)preaching a baptism of repentance for the (F)forgiveness of sins. And all the country of Judea was going out to him, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore (G)a leather belt around his waist, and [d]his diet was locusts and wild honey. And he was [e]preaching, saying, “After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to bend down and untie the straps of His sandals. I baptized you [f]with water; but He will baptize you [g]with the Holy Spirit.”

The Baptism of Jesus

(H)In those days Jesus (I)came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens [h]opening, and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon Him; 11 and a voice came from the heavens: “(J)You are My beloved Son; in You I [i]am well pleased.”

12 (K)And immediately the Spirit *brought Him out into the wilderness. 13 And He was in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by (L)Satan; and He was with the wild animals, and the angels were serving Him.

Jesus Preaches in Galilee

14 (M)Now after John was [j]taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, [k](N)preaching the gospel of God, 15 and saying, (O)The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; (P)repent and [l]believe in the gospel.”

16 (Q)As He was going along the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will have you become fishers of people.” 18 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. 19 And going on a little farther, He saw [m]James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John, [n]who were also in the boat mending the nets. 20 Immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and went away [o]to follow Him.

21 (R)They *went into Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath Jesus (S)entered the synagogue and began to teach. 22 And (T)they were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. 23 Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, 24 saying, “(U)What [p]business do You have with us, Jesus [q]of (V)Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are: (W)the Holy One of God!” 25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” 26 After throwing him into convulsions and crying out with a loud voice, the unclean spirit came out of him. 27 And they were all (X)amazed, so they debated among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.” 28 Immediately the news about Him spread everywhere into all the surrounding region of Galilee.

Crowds Healed

29 (Y)And immediately after they left (Z)the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with [r]James and John. 30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and they immediately *spoke to [s]Jesus about her. 31 And He came to her and raised her up, taking her by the hand, and the fever left her, and she served them.

32 Now (AA)when evening came, (AB)after the sun had set, they began bringing to Him all who were ill and those who were (AC)demon-possessed. 33 And the whole (AD)city had gathered at the door. 34 And He (AE)healed many who were ill with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew [t]who He was.

35 (AF)And in the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and (AG)prayed there for a time. 36 Simon and his companions eagerly searched for Him; 37 and they found Him and *said to Him, “Everyone is looking for You.” 38 He *said to them, “Let’s go somewhere else to the towns nearby, so that I may also [u]preach there; for this is why I came.” 39 (AH)And He went into their synagogues [v]preaching throughout Galilee, and casting out the demons.

40 (AI)And a man with [w]leprosy *came to [x]Jesus, imploring Him and (AJ)kneeling down, and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” 41 Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out with His hand and touched him, and *said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” 42 And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. 43 And He sternly warned him and immediately sent him away, 44 and He *said to him, (AK)See that you say nothing to anyone; but (AL)go, show yourself to the priest and (AM)offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” 45 But he went out and began to (AN)proclaim it [y]freely and to (AO)spread the news around, to such an extent that [z]Jesus could no longer publicly enter a city, but [aa]stayed out in unpopulated areas; and (AP)they were coming to Him from everywhere.

The Beginning of the Besuras HaGeulah (the Good News of Redemption) of Yehoshua, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach [the] Ben HaElohim.

Just as it has been written in Yeshayah HaNavi, HINNENI SHOLEIACH MALACHI (Behold, I send my messenger) before your face, UPINNAH DERECH LEFANAI (and he will prepare the way before me, [SHEMOT 23:20; MALACHI 3:1]), he will prepare your way.

KOL KOREY BAMIDBAR (A voice of one shouting in the wilderness, TARGUM HASHIVIM YESHAYAH 40:3): Prepare the Derech Hashem (the way of the L-rd). Make his paths yashar (straight)!

Yochanan came with a mikveh mayim in the midbar, preaching a tevilah of teshuva for the selichat avon.

And all Yehudah and all Yerushalayim were going out to him, and they were submitted to a tevilah using the Yarden River as a mikveh mayim, making vidduy [to Hashem] of their averos (sins).

And Yochanan had camel hair clothing and a leather belt around his waist, and his food was arbe and devash. [MELACHIM BAIS 1:8; VAYIKRA 11:22]

And he was preaching, crying out as a maggid [for the Moshiach], saying, Hu Habah (He who Comes, i.e. Moshiach) after me has more chozek (strength) than me. I am not worthy to stoop down and remove his sandals.

I give you a tevilah in a mikveh mayim, but he [Moshiach] will give you a tevilah in the Ruach Hakodesh.

And it was during that period that Yehoshua from Natzeret of the Galil came and submitted to Yochanan’s tevilah in the mikveh mayim of the Yarden.

10 And ofen ort Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach came up out of the mikveh mayim, and he saw Shomayim being torn open, the Ruach Hakodesh of Hashem descending like a yonah on him.

11 And there was a bat kol out of Shomayim, ATAH BNI AHUVI ASHER BCHA CHAFATSTI (You are my Son, the beloved, with whom I am well pleased).

12 Then the Ruach Hakodesh ofen ort thrusts him out into the midbar.

13 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach was in the midbar arbaim yom varbaim lailah, undergoing nisyonos by Hasatan; and he was with the chayyat hassadeh (wild beasts, IYOV 5:23), and the malachim were the meshartei Hashem ministering to Moshiach.

14 Now after Yochanan was arrested, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach came to the Galil, proclaiming the Besuras HaGeulah of Hashem,

15 And saying, The appointed time has been fulfilled and the Malchut Hashem has come near. Make teshuva, and have emunah in the Besuras HaGeulah.

16 And passing along beside Lake Kinneret, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach saw Shimon and Andrew, the brother of Shimon, casting a reshet into the sea, for they were daiyagim (fishermen).

17 And he said to them, Come, follow me [as my talmidim], and I will make you to become daiyagei adam

18 And ofen ort, leaving their nets, they followed Moshiach.

19 And going on a little, he saw Yaakov Ben Zavdai and Yochanan his brother, who were also in the sirah (boat) repairing the nets.

20 And ofen ort he summoned them; and, leaving Zavdai their father in the sirah with the sachirim (hired workers), they went away to follow Moshiach.

21 And they enter into Kfar-Nachum, and ofen ort on Shabbos, entering into the shul, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach exercised the ministry of moreh (teacher).

22 And they were astounded at Moshiach’s torah (teaching), for he was teaching them as one having samchut, and not as the Sofrim.

23 And, ofen ort, there was in their shul a man with a ruach hatameh, and he shouted,

24 Saying, Yehoshua of Natzeret, mah lanu vlach? (What to us and to you?) Have you come to bring us churban (destruction)? I have daas [of the raz, secret, mystery of] who you are, HaKadosh of Hashem (the Holy One of G-d).

25 But he rebuked the shed, saying, Shekit! Gey zich! And come out of him.

26 And, the ruach hatumah, throwing him into convulsions, let out a shrai and came out of him.

27 And all were astounded so that they began to discuss with each other, saying, What is this? Torah Chadasha with samchut? He gives orders to the shedim and they obey him?

28 And the besuroh (news) of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach ofen ort (immediately) went forth everywhere into the surrounding region of the Galil.

29 And ofen ort (immediately), coming out of shul, they went into the bais (house) of Shimon and Andrew with Yaakov and Yochanan.

30 And the chamot (shviger, mother-in-law) of Shimon was bedridden and fever-stricken, and ofen ort (immediately) they tell Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach about her.

31 And approaching, holding her hand, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach lifted her up, and the kaddachat (fever, DEVARIM 28:22) left her, and she then began functioning as their mesharetet (servant, keli kodesh, lady minister), waiting on them.

32 When erev (evening) came, with the setting of the shemesh (sun), they brought to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach all the cholim (sick persons) and all those possessed by shedim (demons).

33 And the whole shtetl gathered together at the delet (door).

34 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach administered refuah (healing) to many cholim (sick persons) suffering from various machlot (illnessess), and he cast out many shedim (demons). And he did not permit the shedim to give utterance, for the shedim knew the raz (mystery, secret) of his identity, that he was the Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach.

35 And very early, while it was still dark, having got up, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach went out and away to a desolate place, and was davening shacharis there.

36 And Shimon and those with him searched for Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach.

37 And they found Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach and they say to him, Everyone is seeking you [SHIR HASHIRIM 1:4; CHAGGAI 2:7].

38 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to them, Let us go elsewhere into the neighboring shtetlach, so that also there I may preach. For it was for this [purpose, tachlis] I came. [YESHAYAH 61:1]

39 And he came preaching in their shuls (synagogues) and casting out shedim in [the] whole [region of] the Galil.

40 And an ish metzorah (leper) comes to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach begging him and kneeling down and saying, If you are willing, you are able to make me tahor (clean).

41 And being filled with rachmei Shomayim [and] stretching out his hand, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach touched [the man] and says to him, I am willing. Be made tahor.

42 And ofen ort (immediately) the ish metzorah (leper) went away from Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach and he was made tahor.

43 And having sternly warned him, ofen ort (immediately) Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach sent him away.

44 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to him, See [that] you say nothing to anyone, but rather go show yourself to the kohen and offer [the korban] for the tohorah (purification) of you which Moshe (Rabbeinu) gave mitzvah, for an edut (testimony) to them. [VAYIKRA 13:49, 14:1-32]

45 But the one having gone out began to preach many things and to spread the dvar, so that no longer was Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach able to openly enter into [the] shtetl, but he was outside in desolate places.
