যীশুর আগমনের প্রস্তুতি
(মথি 3:1-12; লূক 3:1-9, 15-17; যোহন 1:19-28)
1 ঈশ্বর পুত্র[a] যীশু খ্রীষ্টের সুসমাচারের সুচনা: 2 ভাববাদী যিশাইয়র পুস্তকে যেমন লেখা আছে,
“শোন! আমি নিজের সহায়কে তোমার আগে পাঠাবো।
সে তোমার জন্য পথ প্রস্তুত করবে।”(A)
3 “মরুপ্রান্তরে একজনের রব ঘোষণা করছে,
‘তোমরা প্রভুর জন্য পথ প্রস্তুত কর,
তাঁর জন্য পথ সরল কর।’”(B)
4 তাই বাপ্তিস্মদাতা যোহন এলেন, তিনি মরুপ্রান্তরে লোকদের বাপ্তিস্ম[b] দিচ্ছিলেন। তিনি প্রচার করেছিলেন যেন লোকেরা পাপের ক্ষমা পাবার জন্য মন-ফেরায় ও বাপ্তিস্ম নেয়। 5 তাতে যিহূদিয়া ও জেরুশালেমের সমস্ত মানুষ তাঁর কাছে যেতে শুরু করল। তারা নিজের নিজের পাপ স্বীকার করে যর্দন নদীতে তাঁর কাছে বাপ্তাইজ হতে লাগল।
6 যোহন উটের লোমের তৈরী কাপড় পরতেন। তাঁর কোমরে চামড়ার কোমর বন্ধনী ছিল এবং তিনি পঙ্গপাল ও বনমধু খেতেন।
7 তিনি প্রচার করতেন, “আমার পরে এমন একজন আসছেন, যিনি আমার থেকে শক্তিমান, আমি নীচু হয়ে তাঁর পায়ের জুতোর ফিতে খোলার যোগ্য নই। 8 আমি তোমাদের জলে বাপ্তাইজ করলাম কিন্তু তিনি তোমাদের পবিত্র আত্মায় বাপ্তাইজ করবেন।”

John the Baptist Prepares the Way(A)
1 The (B)beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, (C)the Son of God. 2 As it is written in [a]the Prophets:
(D)“Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.”
3 “The(E) voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make His paths straight.’ ”
4 (F)John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance [b]for the remission of sins. 5 (G)Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.
6 Now John was (H)clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And he preached, saying, (I)“There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. 8 (J)I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you (K)with the Holy Spirit.”

4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
