⁴⁷ And if your eye causes you to sin,^[a] tear it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into hell,^[b](A)

⁴³ If your hand causes you to sin,^[a] cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and to go to hell,^[b] to the unquenchable fire.^[c](A)

⁹ And if your eye causes you to sin,^[a] tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into the hell^[b] of fire.^(A)

²² But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister,^[a] you will be liable to judgment, and if you insult^[b] a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council, and if you say, ‘You fool,’ you will be liable to the hell^[c] of fire.^(A)

⁷ Yet whatever gains I had, these I have come to regard as loss because of Christ.^{(A) 8} More than that, I regard everything as loss because of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and I regard them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ^(B)

¹⁵ What has become of the goodwill you felt? For I testify that, had it been possible, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me.

²⁶ “Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple.^(A)

³⁷ “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me,^{(A) 38} and whoever does not take up the cross and follow me is not worthy of me.^{(B) 39} Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.^(C)

²⁸ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.^{(A) 29} If your right eye causes you to sin,^[a] tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.^[b](B)
