³⁴ But they kept silent, for on the way ^(A)they had argued with one another about who was the greatest.

⁹ I have written something to the church, but Diotrephes, who likes to put himself first, does not acknowledge our authority.

³ not ^(A)domineering over those in your charge, but ^(B)being examples to the flock.

³ Do nothing from ^(A)selfish ambition or ^(B)conceit, but in ^(C)humility count others more significant than yourselves. ⁴ Let each of you ^(D)look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. ^5 (E)Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,^{[a] 6 (F)}who, though he was in ^(G)the form of God, did not count equality with God ^(H)a thing to be grasped,^{[b] 7} but ^(I)emptied himself, by taking the form of a ^(J)servant,^{[c] (K)}being born in the likeness of men.

^10 (A)Love one another with brotherly affection. ^(B)Outdo one another in showing honor.

Who Is the Greatest?

^24 (A)A dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. ^25 (B)And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles ^(C)exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. ^26 (D)But not so with you. Rather, let ^(E)the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. ²⁷ For who is the greater, ^(F)one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But ^(G)I am among you as the one who serves.

²⁸ “You are those who have stayed with me ^(H)in my trials, ²⁹ and ^(I)I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, ^30 (J)that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and ^(K)sit on thrones judging ^(L)the twelve tribes of Israel.

Who Is the Greatest?

^46 (A)An argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest. ⁴⁷ But Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a child and put him by his side ⁴⁸ and said to them, ^(B)“Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and ^(C)whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For ^(D)he who is least among you all is the one who is great.”

^50 (A)Salt is good, ^(B)but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? ^(C)Have salt in yourselves, and ^(D)be at peace with one another.”

²¹ And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Say that these two sons of mine ^(A)are to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, ^(B)in your kingdom.” ²² Jesus answered, ^(C)“You do not know what you are asking. Are you able ^(D)to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.” ²³ He said to them, ^(E)“You will drink ^(F)my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, ^(G)but it is for those for whom it has been ^(H)prepared by my Father.” ²⁴ And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers.
