^14 (A)And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them.

Jesus Heals a Boy with an Unclean Spirit

^37 (A)On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met him. ³⁸ And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for ^(B)he is my only child. ³⁹ And behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out. It convulses him so that he foams at the mouth, and shatters him, and will hardly leave him. ⁴⁰ And I begged your disciples to cast it out, but ^(C)they could not.” ⁴¹ Jesus answered, “O ^(D)faithless and twisted generation, ^(E)how long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.” ⁴² While he was coming, the demon threw him to the ground and convulsed him. But Jesus ^(F)rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy, and ^(G)gave him back to his father.

⁵³ As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard and to provoke him to speak about many things, ^54 (A)lying in wait for him, ^(B)to catch him in something he might say.

Jesus Heals a Boy with a Demon

^14 (A)And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him, ¹⁵ said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has ^(B)seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. ¹⁶ And I brought him to your disciples, and ^(C)they could not heal him.” ¹⁷ And Jesus answered, “O faithless and ^(D)twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? ^(E)How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” ¹⁸ And Jesus ^(F)rebuked the demon,^[a] and it^[b] came out of him, and ^(G)the boy was healed instantly.^{[c] 19} Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” ²⁰ He said to them, ^(H)“Because of your little faith. For ^(I)truly, I say to you, ^(J)if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, ^(K)you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and ^(L)nothing will be impossible for you.”^[d]

¹⁴ And they came and said to him, “Teacher, ^(A)we know that you are true and do not care about anyone's opinion. For ^(B)you are not swayed by appearances,^[a] but truly teach ^(C)the way of God. Is it lawful to pay ^(D)taxes to ^(E)Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?”

²⁸ and they said to him, ^(A)“By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?”

⁶ Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts,

Do Not Grow Weary

^3 (A)Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or ^(B)fainthearted.
