¹¹ And they asked him, “Why do the scribes say ^(A)that first Elijah must come?”

^5 (A)“Behold, I will send you ^(B)Elijah the prophet ^(C)before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.

3 ^(A)“Behold, I send ^(B)my messenger, and ^(C)he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord ^(D)whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and ^(E)the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.

¹⁴ and if you are willing to accept it, he is ^(A)Elijah who is to come.

⁴ And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.

¹⁰ And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say ^(A)that first Elijah must come?” ¹¹ He answered, “Elijah does come, and ^(B)he will restore all things.
