^36 (A)For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?

²⁶ For ^(A)what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or ^(B)what shall a man give in return for his soul?

^25 (A)For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?

⁹ Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, ¹⁰ and ^(A)the rich in his humiliation, because ^(B)like a flower of the grass^[a] he will pass away. ¹¹ For the sun rises with its scorching heat and ^(C)withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

⁷ But ^(A)whatever gain I had, ^(B)I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. ⁸ Indeed, I count everything as loss because of ^(C)the surpassing worth of ^(D)knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I ^(E)have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ ⁹ and be found in him, not having ^(F)a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but ^(G)that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—

²⁴ By faith Moses, when he was grown up, ^(A)refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, ^25 (B)choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy ^(C)the fleeting pleasures of sin. ^26 (D)He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to ^(E)the reward.

^21 (A)But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things ^(B)of which you are now ashamed? ^(C)For the end of those things is death.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up ^(A)for many years; relax, ^(B)eat, drink, be merry.”’ ²⁰ But God said to him, ^(C)‘Fool! ^(D)This night ^(E)your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, ^(F)whose will they be?’
