Mark 8:34-38

³⁴And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him ^(A)deny himself and ^(B)take up his cross and follow me. ³⁵For ^(C)whoever would save his life^[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake ^(D)and the gospel's will save it. ³⁶^(E)For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? ³⁷For ^(F)what can a man give in return for his soul? ³⁸For ^(G)whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this ^(H)adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed ^(I)when he comes in the glory of his Father with ^(J)the holy angels.”

³⁴When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, ^(B)“Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. ³⁵For ^(C)whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. ³⁶For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? ³⁷Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? ³⁸^(D)For whoever ^(E)is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
