³³ But turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.”^(A)

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! for it is written,

¹⁵ Do not love the world or the things in the world. The love of the Father is not in those who love the world,^(A)

¹⁹ Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things.^(A)

¹⁹ I reprove and discipline those whom I love. Be earnest, therefore, and repent.^(A)

¹⁵ This is not wisdom that comes down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, devilish.^{(A) 16} For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind.^{(B) 17} But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy.^{(C) 18} And the fruit of righteousness^[a] is sown in peace by those who make peace.^(D)

⁵ For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit^[a] set their minds on the things of the Spirit.^{[b](A) 6} To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit^[c] is life and peace.^{(B) 7} For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law—indeed, it cannot,^{(C) 8} and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

³¹ Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ ³² For it is the gentiles who seek all these things, and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

⁴ But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not die,^{(A) 5} for God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,^[a] knowing good and evil.” ⁶ So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate.^(B)
