³³ But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!”^(A) he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

¹⁰ Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan!^(A) For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’^[a]”^(B)

On Not Loving the World

¹⁵ Do not love the world or anything in the world.^(A) If anyone loves the world, love for the Father^[a] is not in them.^(B)

¹⁹ Their destiny^(A) is destruction, their god is their stomach,^(B) and their glory is in their shame.^(C) Their mind is set on earthly things.^(D)

¹⁵ Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven^(A) but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.^{(B) 16} For where you have envy and selfish ambition,^(C) there you find disorder and every evil practice.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that comes from heaven^(D) is first of all pure; then peace-loving,^(E) considerate, submissive, full of mercy^(F) and good fruit, impartial and sincere.^{(G) 18} Peacemakers^(H) who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.^(I)

⁵ Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires;^(A) but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.^{(B) 6} The mind governed by the flesh is death,^(C) but the mind governed by the Spirit is life^(D) and peace. ⁷ The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God;^(E) it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. ⁸ Those who are in the realm of the flesh^(F) cannot please God.

³¹ So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ ³² For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.^(A)
