Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

^31 (A)And he began to teach them that ^(B)the Son of Man must ^(C)suffer many things and ^(D)be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and ^(E)after three days rise again. ³² And he said this ^(F)plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. ³³ But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, ^(G)“Get behind me, Satan! For you ^(H)are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection

^30 (A)They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know, ³¹ for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, ^(B)after three days he will rise.” ^32 (C)But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.

Who Is the Greatest?

³³ And ^(D)they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house ^(E)he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” ³⁴ But they kept silent, for on the way ^(F)they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. ³⁵ And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, ^(G)“If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”

Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time

^32 (A)And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and ^(B)Jesus was walking ahead of them. And ^(C)they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, ³³ saying, “See, ^(D)we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will ^(E)condemn him to death and ^(F)deliver him over to the Gentiles. ³⁴ And they will ^(G)mock him and ^(H)spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And ^(I)after three days he will rise.”

The Request of James and John

^35 (J)And James and John, ^(K)the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us ^(L)whatever we ask of you.” ³⁶ And he said to them, ^(M)“What do you want me to do for you?” ³⁷ And they said to him, “Grant us ^(N)to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, ^(O)in your glory.”
