² “I have compassion for the crowd because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat.^(A)

³⁶ When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.^(A)

³⁴ As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.^(A)

³² For it is the gentiles who seek all these things, and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. ³³ But seek first the kingdom of God^[a] and his^[b] righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.^(A)

² He fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterward he was famished.^{(A) 3} The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.”^{(B) 4} But he answered, “It is written,

² He is able to deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is subject to weakness,^(A)

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested^[a] as we are, yet without sin.^(A)

¹⁷ Therefore he had to become like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make a sacrifice of atonement for the sins of the people.^(A)
